So Gubby Allen signed Mayne without Bucks okay, allegedly. Wasn't it Gubby Allen that would not trade Cam Mac to us and made him sit out a year? Sweet, sweet schadenfreude, plus as someone has already pointed out, this is revenge for Tarrant, schadenfreude squared. We won't be doing the Pies any favours, they are not very nice at the trade table. If they give us a sweetarse deal that is too good to turn down, then maybe, but I wouldn't be paying 100% of Mayne's wage. Maybe if they offered to pay 60% plus a second round pick or something, even then I just have flashbacks of the momentum that was killed by those missed goals.
In all fairness, Cam had two years left on his contract which is pushing it. And had they cracked and traded him we would've lost two first rounders. That would've been part of the Bennel trade, but more importantly it would've cost us pick 3. Which was huge in us getting in Cam, Logue, Hamling, Kersten and Brennan Cox.
Dodged a bullet. Imagine the scrutiny Cam would get if he cost us two first rounders, good Lord.

Anyone know much about these two. Shane Neilson and Tyler Keitel.

Knightmare had this to say a few weeks ago, both playing WAFL

Shane Nelson has had two exceptional weeks in a row with 45 disposals, five tackles, seven inside 50s and one goal. This follows 51 disposals, eight marks, five tackles, nine inside 50s and one goal the previous week. The 24-year-old midfielder is simply too good for the state leagues, elevating his game with each passing season.

Arguably the best mature-age key position player running around the state leagues, 21-year-old Tyler Keitel, has developed this season as a key forward after playing key defence in 2016. Against Perth, Keitel gathered 21 disposals, eight marks and a season-high 7 goals
I'm a big fan of Shane Nelson. An absolute ball winning machine who's miles ahead of he rest of the WAFL when it comes to winning contested footy. I think the main criticisms of him have been that he's not damaging enough when he gets the footy....disposal can be a little hit and miss, doesn't necessarily gain a lot of metres and doesn't kick slot of goals. Monaghan says he's improved in all those areas and I think he deserves a crack at a rookie list spot at least.

Only a fool or one eyed pies supporter could believe that Mayne was signed without Buckley's acceptance, let alone knowledge. He may not have fully agreed with the idea, but he still signed off in it.
Even if, in some mad scenario, his bullshit mix up story us true, it's moot. The standard you walk past is the standard you accept. Once done it was his to live with as the public head of the club.

Sounds like Lachie Neale.

I see Cam Loersch has been delisted by Suns. Don't know much about him other than: 203cm ex-South Freo project ruckman behind Nicholls / Witts / Currie / 2m Peter. 22 year old. This is his club profile:
Cameron Loersch was recruited as a project forward/ruck from South Fremantle and spent all of his first year playing at NEAFL level.
He stands 203cm – the same as Peter Wright – is a strong mark, and will continue working on his strength and competitiveness at ground level to crack some senior games.

I wonder if he's a viable rookie / ruck backup option?
Yes! Get Loersch home now, either at Freo or back home at Souths

Have heard from a few mates that Nelson is too good for WAFL, deserves to be on an AFL list but not necessarily going to make the grade. Would be worth a punt with a 4th rounder but would rather a young punt in a rebuild. Would love to see him on a list. Keitel is a pure state league forward. Wouldn't succeed in AFL against the quicker, more agile defenders.

It was reported earlier that he ok'd for a 3 year, 300 to 350k deal and then it was bumped up with out the knowledge of a lot of people at Collingwood.

Anybody can see Deluca's cards are stamped, or he wouldn't be playing on ball for Peel.
That is my point why draft Nelson ? When you want to get rid of deluca .Is like doing the same thing over and over again by just replacing with other player but older.Until older players like sheriden , sutty ,suban move over they always had the advantage of bigger body or experience over the younger players in wafl league .

The comparison

Deluca

Nelson

Nelson does get a lot more of the pill.

Nelson also doesn't give away as many free kicks, check Deluca's free kick against record

Getting pill is not a problem for Freo players apart from suban in wafl. Sutty ,D.pearce ,sheriden all come in and kill it as inside mid for peel . I rather had bennell playing a 15 disposal game than having players turnover the ball after getting the pill . Adelaide Greenwood is not getting high disposal either .

* Suban kill it Vs south freo with 31 disposal.

So? Freo have a wealth of midfielders at the club, that's well known. Believe De Luca deserved a shot in the last 4 weeks of the season on ball. Yet he was dropped/scapegoated. Should've got given the chance against essendon, but played Neale.
Josh is finally fit and healthy, he's a hard worker and can be something to keep going forward next season. Possibly delisted then re Rookied? His work rate is exceptional. Too good to play WAFL.

As good as Nelson is at WAFL, he is nowhere near AFL quality, every recruiter/talent manager will tell you that.
Ok, let's ask the obvious.

What WAFL players do have the AFL quality and are likely to put in the work required and are coach able...

I just have a feeling that the changes to the rookie list rules mean more mature age ready to go players like Luke Ryan this year for Freo

Maybe.

But Luke had one attribute that made him stand out. How many small backs can kick like a laser over 60 meters?

Nelson seems to be that vanilla acumulator who can do it at WAFL level, as the other mids aren't as quick or fit.
A bit like Elari used to be

Yeah it amazes me that Keitel is listed at 95kgs. Even this year he still looked gangling and not big enough to really take on AFL-level KPDs. No real stand out attributes.

I wouldn't go near him given the depth of ok but not great KPPs we've got sitting on the list. Collingwood might given their atrocious KPP depth but probably better VFL options.

Nelson probably doesn't make our list any better either, probably just below Deluca in pecking order. I'd rather look at a mid sized forward if we were taking a WAFL player with a late pick. Sokol or Johnson who are both still only 22. Or Ryan Mind you i've probably only seen about 60 minutes of each this year so I could be talking absolute shit.

Buckley is blame shifting. Really ordinary way to treat those involved in the decision, and a disgraceful way to treat Mayne and the playing group.
