The day we say the AFL introduce that clubs have the power to trade a player's contract without their consent is the day player's will take their contract seriously. The sooner, the better IMO.

I also want to see live trading of picks on draft day. Makes everything so much more fluid and exciting.

Re: Wilson, do West Coast have a look in or are they content with Shepard, Hurn and Nathan Yeo and concentrating on mids?

Trading players without their consent is never going to happen. The AFLPA has too much power over the AFL and almost always eventually gets their way or at the very least gets somewhere closer to where they want to get.

Trading of picks on draft day will happen. A few things going about semi-recently that it may happen as soon as next year's draft but not this year.

Meima would rather we draft someone like Blair Bell or a dozen other WAFL plebs he thinks are awesome.
Don't be like that Cobbler , I never said draft Blair bell , if you confident he is 30+ goal player he should be able to produce that , anything less is a failure , of course 40+ goal will be awesome.

Matera has struggled to consistently show his talent but he has it and fills a need, have no idea why people would even consider or talk about Motlop or Menzel for the age, price etc. Matera has the potential to come in like Hamling has for us this year.

I cannot see us keeping all of Sherro, Sutcliffe and Suban - would expect to lose at least one of those if we get any interest in order to get currency for Matera or Wilson or other. Crozier I still rate and would prefer to keep and he seems pretty loyal as well. Can understand there would be interest from Vic clubs though.

My main concern now is re-signing Tabs - we have no other like him on the list and he seems to have finally started showing his potential on a consistent basis.

I ain't confident he is a 30 goal forward in our team. I'm very confident he can find the goals better than Grey, Crozier, Deluca and Langdon. What would he need to do to beat them? Probably kick 15-20 goals. So that's where I see him fitting in. It's a pathetic amount, but we'll need a spread of 15-30 goal scorers.

If you're placing 30 goals on him as a pass or fail? Prepare for him to fail and your expectations are too high for what should cost a lowish pick.

For the record I reckon I could find countless posts about you talking about recruiting Blair Bell last year. I could also find a dozen or so where you think players like Mason Shaw or Darcy Cameron would walk into our team and do well. It's ok to love the WAFL but a player like Matera would destroy the WAFL.

Non player consent trades could only happen if the contracts were with the AFL itself and an extra zero was added to their salaries
At the rate the broadcast deals are increasing, it could be very really by the next broadcast deal. The qualifying age for free agency comes down to four or five years, live trading, might even see a team in Tasmania and playing more international games for premiership points (or even a premiership).

I'll get laughed at but IMO it's only a matter of time.

I don't have doubt about that , but his injury hardly allow him to destroy NEAFL , let alone WAFL , a lot of different playing along jack Martin and lynch than alongside nobody like Neafl Version of Blair bell ,grey ,langdon , deluca.

Fair enough mate. Would be nice to see you show some excitement or positivity to Fremantle.
I generally don't like reading your posts as they're usually critical or negative.
If Lynch was to come out and say he wanted to play for Fremantle and it would cost us pick 5 and a future 2nd, I could bet my bottom dollar you'd whinge about something or say we should just recruit Dillon OReilly in 2018 and let Lynch go somewhere else.

I'd prefer Tim Kelly over Matera. I hope he doesn't end up at West Coast. I saw an article today on one of the WA news websites they're into Sloithe though.
I think probably everyone would, but I imagine barring weirdness Kelly will probably cost a late 2nd/early 3rd. Whereas Matera probably less. That said Luke Ryan did fall a lot further than expected to us.

(also I imagine Wilson makes no sense whatsoever for West Coast as you correctly point out they are replete with HBFs and need mids)

if there was ever a reason to have a crack at Wilson have a look at the gf on saturday. There are much better midfields going around but ball use off half back makes up for any deficiencies. Especially considering how mediocre the tigers forward line is.

Wilson, Ryan, Weller off half back would match any team in the league for ball use off the backline. Would be enough to compensate for our lack of talent up forward.

That's my point. We're likely giving up a pick 35-50 for Matera which is where Tim Kelly probably gets taken. My preference is to use that pick to select Kelly.

I'd be moving the bracket of draft pick to more like 55 - 58 or a player swap. The best we may offer GC is if we end up with a Pick between 45-54 for one of Balic, Sheridan or Sutcliffe being traded.

Tim Kelly is having his first good season at WAFL, he hasn't proven anything yet.

Matera has actually played at AFL level and has shown he is capable of playing (consistency the issue).

I wouldn't be using our 2nd rounder for either of these players.

Have I been asleep and missed that time when Crozier kicked over 2 goals a game over a 10 game stretch.

Matera isn't the single answer to anything but we seriously suck at kicking goals.
Nobody from Freo has done that in the last decade except Pavlich.

That's the reality of playing for a Ross Lyon coached side. You don't score many goals. There's no reason to believe Matera could replicate his 2 goals a game here under a much more defensive game plan/
