This is the first I've heard of it!

Seriously though, love the scenario. Looks reasonably realistic to me. I hope GC acquiesce to one of the 50's picks for Matera, I'm worried that with Ablett leaving for peanuts they'll drag their heels and demand #39 (or whatever).

Really strange rumour that Kurt Tippett that has toured Fremantle's facilities and spoke with mangament..

Please tell me that's not true.
What are we doing, signing up all 30 year old hacks now? Ballas, MJ and now Kurt.. ha..

Does sound like we told him he would be fringe so I don't blame him. It should help a lot in getting us something else we need. Sorry to see him go personally, but that's footy.
I'm pretty sure he's our next untouchable player. The club will be on their knees during all future contract negotiations just as a safety measure.
agree with you......Darcy is so much like the great John Nicholls....and only 19

Please give me a rundown on Balic because I know very little about him from a playing point of view? Is he quick and can he kick?
What others have said. The bit I'd stress is, because he's not had a chance to play top level much (injury obviously early and then 'personal issues' this year) there is still a lot of question marks. However, his upside is genuinely huge. He isn't blistering fast in terms of open leg speed, but he thinks quickly, is athletic (good leap, solid enough burst speed) and is a natural footballer. He is also a good size for the modern game. Skills wise he's a solid kick, good decision maker and good in the air for a mid - all areas that are very solid now and could easily improve with time an experience. He has the potential to be A-Grade.

But I say again, that's all potential. Obviously there are issues there which nobody is publicly aware of. If that is fixed with a simple move to Melbourne, some team is going to get him for way unders. But who knows? Could be more serious and/or long term which impact or slow his development. We don't know. But my guess is that he'll settle down and, at the very least, become a very solid footballer.

Doesn't have to mean anything. Presumably most people in the AFL would stick their heads in to gawk at the facilities if they were over for holidays or whatever. It's a new/shiny toy and probably the new yard stick with which to measure AFL facilities.

He could solve big forward problem short term. Apeness may never develop due to injury. Cox has a long long way to go. we need that one big strong key forward to compliment McCarthy Kersten types. Pearce also may not recover from his leg also

Loathe to put this here but....
http://www.watoday.com.au/afl/afl-n...or-melbournes-jack-watts-20170927-gyq8kr.html

There is also lingering uncertainty around the future of fellow Demons forward Jesse Hogan, with industry sources suggesting he is no guarantee to remain at Melbourne next year despite also having two years remaining on his contract.

Hogan's hometown club Fremantle is believed to be circling. A Hogan trade to the Dockers could help enable the Dees to find a suitable trade for Lever, who looks bound for Melbourne after the Crows' grand final appearance this weekend.

Getting exciting now! All he has to do now is ask for a trade home. Weve got the currency this year to get him. Would be one of the best trade periods ever if we nabbed matera wilson and hogan in one offseason.

Don't rule a line through Hogan until at least end of trade period. Melbourne really want Lever and will need high picks to get him. However, ball is in Hogan's court as Melb have all but said he can seek a trade to Freo if he wishes. Balic and pick will be involved and Freo will increase his salary substantially plus offering a ~6 year deal.

I am usually skeptical on most of the stuff I hear but this one excited me slightly.

The arousal curve is starting to trend skyward... Do you think Melbourne would jump if we offered pick 5 + Balic, and a 3rd round pick swap?

I'd love Tippett if he was 6 years younger but he's no use to us at his age.
No use? Our ruck stocks are quite average at best. Darcy will be good but Sandilands is done, the big man won't play much in 2018. Next best is Griffin who has knee issues and really isnt that great anyway and then we have Clarke who I don't rate that highly.

Tippett wont cost much, Sydney need to get his salary off their books. We need a decent backup ruckman for when one of Sandilands/Griffin/Clarke go down as they have done for the past two seasons. He can also take a pretty good contested mark up forward. These guys don't grow on trees, we are lucky Darcy is developing so quickly as a ruck, if we draft another one whoever it is will take 2 years at least to develop in the WAFL. This is where Tippett comes in for a couple of seasons, allows us to develop our list, put pressure on McCarthy, Taberner, Kersten up forward and provide backup for young Darcy.

As mentioned he won't cost much, Sydney will most likely want a player but potentially whatever pick we receive for Balic could be sent over to Sydney or some may not agree but Nic Suban i'd be throwing up.

Too much information:)
I think the fact that we have pick 5 makes this year the year to do it if Melbourne are contemplating it.

Tbh the only way this would make sense from Melbourne's pov is if they wanted Tabs as well. I mean I get that Lever is a gun but they don't have any replacements for Hogan. Especially with Watts shopping himself around. Weideman still has a lot of development to do before getting anywhere near Hogan's output. Their key forward depth is pretty thin and Tabs would help with that.

It still doesn't make a lot of sense from Melbourne's pov but it makes slightly more.

I think he got mixed up there. All indications it's Melbourne
That's what I thought, too. That will be interesting to see how that plays out. I guess it will all come down to whether Lever requests a trade back to Vic or nominates a club.

We don't need 5 ruckmen on our list. It's just absurd. Most clubs have 2, 3 at the most.

Our situation is that we'll need an extra one due to us signing Sandi on for another year while the jury is out on his ability to effectively play another season.

So Clarke and Griff go, bringing it back to 3 with Apeness and Cox as genuine back up and Collins and Tabs for desperation times. That's heaps.

If one of Ape or Strnadica happen to be delisted, then I agree that we need another one as back up, but he'd have to come cheap. Tippett won't come cheap.
