That's true. He did test quite well for speed at the combine though. I would hope he could use that to generate extra pace off half-back.
He's quick for his size but I'd like him playing a Johnno sweeping role. Obviously he'll need to develop but that's where I see him playing imo. His kicking is quite penetrating as well, Just not quite as clever as Johnno but he's much more athletic.

I think running half backs and third talls are the same thing.

One has more height, maybe, but both have to be able to defend, run and distribute.

It is only that opposition clubs wouldn't let the best kick out of defence float free as a loose or third tall that they don't.

Sutty Hamling Logue
Weller Pearce Wilson

Works fine for me.

Alex Pearce will replace MJ imo. Mathew Lloyd has already said the club sees Alex Pearce as a 10 year CHB.

No Ryan, Hughes or a lock-down small defender?

I think Hughes is heading to the midfield, his explosive power and agility is made for clearances. I want to see him released to hunt the ball and see how close he resembles Nathan Fyfe.

Ryan has no exposed form at AFL level yet, so I reserve the right to make a call on him until later. :)

Logue or Sutty can both play on med-tall or smalls, they are also two of our top five/six aerobic beasts at the club so I expect plenty of run off up the ground to create when we hit full flight again.

I'm not sure modern footy style allows for a pair of key backs and a small defender to purely chase their man all day anymore.

Will be interesting to see what actually happens next year, because we really have too many defenders and
not enough spots.
I think that A Pearce could also part time ruck, played midfield until a growth spurt, a Dean Cox role?
This would at least give us Darcy, Tabs?, depth in this position, jury is still out on Apeness body standing
up to AFL.
The reality is that hard calls need to be made on Ibbo, Sutcliffe or Sherro, Spurr, Johnson because they will
not be around when we start to climb.
It is a similar situation to Barlow, Mz, Deboer, but it was the right decision no matter how much it hurts.

I think we need to do some experimentation with defence positions. Collins, Nyhuis and Ryan are playing their way into opportunity. Cox also is not far off being deserving of opportunity. If these players get opportunity then we can make list decisions based on much better info at the end of the year. I would also like to see Croz in defence at some point. I think he may be a far better attacking weapon in defence than attack.

I think Hughes is heading to the midfield
Wouldn't mind seeing that. We're pretty well off for mids though. He'd be of better value if he turned into a very good mid-size defender. Nothing I've seen this year to suggest he won't - which I was doubtful about last year.

He's been alright this year, I'm still a little concerned about how slowly he moves the ball on though. I don't see the point in moving him into the midfield imo, we're desperate for quality HBFs.

Yeah but a third tall in the Johnson/Ibbo role is better suited to being that third man up and taking the grab. I see players like Wilson and Sutty as line breakers whereas Logue is more of a hybrid key defender with elite athleticism and good marking. I think they're completely different positions.

I think there are at least some other pieces available.
Yes, I forgot about Tucker. He was good in that last quarter I thought.

Will wait until we see Cox, Ryan, Nyhuis before we pencil them in. Ditto Strnadica and Deluca. Fingers crossed at least one of them makes a B Grade at the least.

Darcy I'm quietly confident we've 'found one'.

I'm pretty frustrated with Taberner and Crozier. This 1 week on, 1 week off stuff is for 18-year-olds. They haven't closed the gap between their best and worst at all. In fact, Croziers game V Richmond was the worst I'd seen from him - then his game against Carlton was one of his best.

Apeness is done

Bolton's not even on our list.

I don't know what Patrick Cripps contract status is, but despite what he or Carlton say he has indicated he wants to return home. Freo have spoken at length with his management and continue to do so.

You would think West Coast also know that info and have spoken to his management.

Speaking with Cripps about a return home has nothing to do with losing or retaining Fyfe (at this stage at least).

My preference would be for a key forward but if we do lose Fyfe then Cripps would become a priority.

If Mitch McGovern returned home his preference is Fremantle and not the Eagles.
That is completely untrue. That muppet Kane Cornes "suggested" back during trade week that Cripps may want to go home purely based on trying to think of trades for Fyfe and that Patty Cripps is originally from WA. Completely ignoring (or being ignorant of the fact) that Cripps' "home is 500k away from Perth and that he had re-signed until the end of 2019 only a few months prior.

-------
Port Adelaide 300-gamer Kane Cornes floated the possibility of Cripps heading home to Western Australia as part of a potential blockbuster trade for Fremantle’s Nathan Fyfe.

“I actually found it pretty funny when I found out, a mate texted me back home with the old jumper swap, but I can tell you it’s not true,” Cripps said on Thursday afternoon in a video posted on Carlton’s twitter account.

“I signed a contract extension last year to show that I was really happy at the Blues.

For a start I don't make up lies.

Have a look at my posting history and tell me where I have made lies. What makes you think I know "jack shit" as you put it?

I know Freo have spoken to him, i can't prove that yet, but i'm hoping it will come out in due course.

You highlighting this bit of my post is unbelievably ironic "but despite what he or Carlton say he has indicated he wants to return home"

Feel your frustration, but it seems this is the way the media works nowadays. Everyone wants to pretend they have inside information, then their opinion is quoted ad nauseum until it becomes "fact".

We had to deal with this crap with Lachie Neale all of last year, we are now dealing with it in relation to Nathan Fyfe. Not sure why some of our supporters swallow this stuff then regurgitate it - we are just compounding the problem.

I know for a FACT* that Cripps is going nowhere.

Cheers DD. I will try and not post made up crap about Carlton talking to Fyfe's management all year on the Carlton board.
