Not a bad idea, hopefully he considers that if he is indeed homesick.

I think absolute worse is an early-mid second. Clubs rate him as do freo, can't see a club thinking 'they'll accept a third rounder'.
So many variables, but also depends on whether he does a 'wants to go home' OR 'wants to go to Carlton' type scenario.

If there's some sort of bidding we'll get an end of second rounder or perhaps a future 2nd or perhaps a swap of picks. If he chooses a specific club, then we get a 3rd rounder at best.

If we can do a player exchange for another want home kid, that'll probably be our best option.

Despite how highly you rate a player, he's played 4 games.

Got it from here. Kenny is a quality poster.
I just heard it from the same source last year that told me about Hamling. I think I made a very similar comment about Hamling last year :) To be honest, I personally think it would be difficult to work mid contract but Wilson is definitely someone who we should be in the ear of.

Thought I'd search for 'Hamling' mentions on the Freo board.

You mentioned him as a potential trade way before all but one poster.

Farmerwantsawife mentioned him a month before you. Funnily enough he hasn't posted on Bigfooty since.

Won't let me quote him or tag him??

In any case Mitch McGovern and Wilson would be fantastic gets. Both fit the plan of bringing home West Aussies. I'm sure we are talking to both of them. Would be great if the club could work out trades to get them both done.

Fingers crossed.

Both would be perfect, clear positions of need. Cost would be high, especially for Wilson mid-contract with Shaw old and the Giants probably not having the best relationship with us. But hey, you get what you pay for.

I don't buy the trepidation on McGovern as being the wrong type of player. He has more football talent than any tall sans McCarthy on the list, a quality which is more important than the extra few cm's. Instantly relegates Kersten to the bin and improves the side. He's been sort of playing a HHF role for Adelaide for the most part anyway so would no doubt help us there, plus has his brother's sticky hands (although I don't quite think he is as good a kick as Jeremy).

I definitely think we shook the tree. At this stage though he will stay, and I agree with you that a trade would have been difficult.

That very rarely happens. Supremely confident on us getting nothing less than a second rounder.
It rarely happens because clubs accept whatever pick they are offered rather than getting nothing. If Balic wants to leave and the best we are offered is pick 60, then we will accept pick 60. That's a better pick than what we paid for Kersten who went straight into our best 22. That's how trading works.

Clubs are also aware it's not as simple as that when it comes to talented players. McCarthy is a great example, how many people here were cocky thinking we'd get him for a third round pick, simply because gws have to accept it because they're not gonna pay him another year to sit out? Well, they still got a top 10 pick out of him, that was tremendous trading on there behalf. We'll get a second rounder as a minimum (if he leaves), everyone here can quote me on that.

Roberton was more highly rated than Balic is currently when he left and we got sweet FA for him.
No way is that true. We went to extreme measures to get Balic playing for Peel in the finals last year. Top 10 until his wrist was announced, now it's fixed. Since round 3 hes played every game that hes been fit and available in, Tucker gets dropped ahead of him. Roberton got his partner pregnant, bit different. We were (though very caring and thoughtful) too nice about Roberton's situation and allowed ourselves to lose him for nothing. If Balic goes, in comparison to when Roberton left, not a single AFL recruiter would take Roberton ahead of Balic.

Mitch McGovern is the one I would focus on. A fwd line of three mobile mid talls to me is an exciting prospect they are tall enough to create a contest but unlike the 3 talls now they need to ensure they all don't go up for the same mark at once.

We will have to get crafty with the trade though. No 2017 second round pick and we really need to hang onto our first whilst in this rebuild phase.
So which of them do you see as second ruck? Where does Logue fit?

You are dreaming. If he goes to say Carlton, the best we will do is their third rounder, something around pick 40. Or some pick swaps/upgrades instead.

Things might change if he gets back on the park soon and then tears it up for the rest of the year.

I prefer the Hawks older style of targeting mature agers, that have shown a little something, then excel in their system.
We have been lucky to have missed the boat on several big names, even some that have Freo links, that would of set us
back for years.
Even the Crows with Eddie Betts, how did this happen?
Sure if we can strike a deal that is fair, rather just wait for free agency, Jackson Trengrove??

Great example indeed. We effectively got him for a late 4th round pick. The net points value we gave up for McCarthy was pick 71.

Let me repeat myself, top 10 with his wrist fixed, club rates him.......you're dreaming.

Points system literally means nothing to us. GWS got #3 for losing a forward who was only ever going to one club after sitting out of the game for a year. Nothing less than a second rounder, bookmark it.

We'd get a second rounder for Balic.

If we get low-balled by a single club, other clubs will undoubtedly come out of the woodwork and cut their grass.

Roberton wasn't rated anywhere near as much as Balic was this early in his career.

Why do you leave out getting pick 34 as well. All things considered, for downgrading pick 3 to pick 7 we got McCarthy AND Hamling. While I like that your trying to argue we'll get a second rounder for Balic, you cant use McCarthy as an example. Both teams won that trade. GWS couldnt give a shit about pick 34 and McCarthy since they had to jettison players and cap space as fast as possible but we turned pick 3 into Logue, Hamling and McCarthy. The McCarthy trade is a terrible example, GWS got what they wanted because they were in a position to "lose" a trade on face value but "win" given the circumstances
