So what you reckon ,
First Rd Sam hayes
Third Rd ?
4 rd ( GC)
4 rd ( freo)

It is early, but at this stage what I would like is something like:
  • First Round: Sam Hayes (Vic Metro) (Ruck Forward)
  • Third Round: Jackson Hately (South Australia) (Wing / HBF)
  • Fourth Round (GC): Liam Ryan (WAFL mature age) (Forward Pocket)
  • Fourth Round: Rookie Upgrade: Brady Grey
I accept that Hayes might be early for our pick, and I wouldn't be surprised if we go a midfielder with our first as I don't know that the club will acknowledge our issues in the forward line, whilst still being worried about defence and midfield. If Lochie O'Brien or Adam Cerra type was there I am not sure we would ignore them and also not sure if Darcy Fogarty* was there at our first pick whether we would pass on him.

*Top 5 feels like it could be (in no specific order):
1. Luke Davies Uniake
2. Cameron Rayner
3. Lochie O'Brien
4. Jarrod Brander
5. Adam Cerra

I like your idea , only difference from me is I think freo will use later pick to upgrade grey.
As I think freo need four draftee to compensate the lost of Yarran .

At this stage with sandi looking to be around next year i think it would be silly to waste a top pick on a tall.We have plenty of tall timber At the moment. Get maybe one tall as a mature Age player rookie (ruck/forward )and get the best mid/forward (green/Zorko) type as our first pick. in the latter rounds picking up Liam Ryan would be good and upgrade grey.

Talls on are list going into next year are looking like sandi, tabener,McCarthy, kersten,Darcy, strnadica, A.Pearce who could go forward and ruck and to the lesser extent possibly griffin and down back we have Collins, hamling.

We need better mid/forward and small crumbling forwards

Desperately need a quality KF and they don't come from late in the draft or rarely as mature age. Darcy, Strnadica or Pearce from your list could possibly develop into a quality KF but at this stage it's highly doubtful.

Exactly development. A young 17-18 key forward isn't going to jump straight in and have an impact. If we use our highest pick on a tall they will likely take 3-4 years to develop and we are wasting top picks on talls when guys like Powell peppers can be taken and made immediate impact. Talls should be taken in rookie draft to develop. We used a high pick on Darcy and logue last year. This year it would be silly to do the same thing and take another tall that could potentially still not live up to their expectations

Agree regarding development time although from what I've seen of the KF's that are tipped to go early in the draft, they look like they'll play next year and we aren't ready to push for a flag in the next 2 or 3 years anyway, so they'll definitely be ready by then.

If you want a quality KF, you won't get one in the rookie draft heaveho.

Darcy is a ruck and Logue is a KD and I certainly don't see them as wasted picks, we now need a quality KF for our next push at a flag.

You might not get a quality key in the first few rounds either. If the club is smart enough they should throw a offer out to a free agent that is a quality key forward. We already used high picks on McCarthy too. We can get only have so many key tall forwards in the 22

The only free agents that are Talls, Casboult, Schoenmakers, Jake Spencer, Jackson Trengrove, Sam Reid,
Andy Otten, Kreuzer.
Sam Reid is probably the best key position, but as we have found in the past getting them to move over
west?
On reflection any of them would be handy, and it would allow us to focus on other needs in the first round.
I worry about Vic Metro kids, and that is the bulk of Talls this year.

I think we should take a leaf out of the book of what Sydney did when they had the engine room midfield and their defense was pretty good the window was open they pounced on franklin and Tippett. If we are aiming on quality get quality and not take the maybe or what if players. Hawthorn did the same they got mcevoy and gunston

But hawthorn draft roughead and buddy before they do trade in . You need to draft some KPP also .

That's not bad, but we have so many players who need to walk that 3 picks only is going to suck arse

[
Exactly they didn't use their top picks on talls they looked for quality to replace them
They use top 5 pick on buddy and roughead , when buddy went to Sydney they use player like shoemakers to temp fill the role . Guston is more of a second or third tall .

Sam Hayes
The only player during the AFL Under-18 Championships to be awarded All-Australian as a bottom ager was the 200cm, 90kg, Sam Hayes. He has proven effective both as a ruckman and key forward - Hayes is arguably the most advanced tap ruckman from the 2017 draft class and is also a strong contested mark around the ground and forward of centre. He averaged one contested mark per game this season in the TAC Cup, attacking the ball in flight and holding his position in body-on-body contests.

Has averaged one mark a game this season and is our answer to a ruck/forward. No thanks

Jack Higgins
Arguably the most advanced player in this draft class with several games of 30 or more disposals in the TAC Cup, also kicking 19 goals from his 10 games. At 176cm, 73kg, Higgins is a classy ball user who wins his share of the contested ball through the midfield. He is also a natural crumber who keeps his feet, draws high free kicks and finishes effectively around goal.

Now we are talking

Lachlan Pascoe
Physically already a very mature half-back flanker at 189cm, 94kg and averaging 18 disposals, five marks and five rebound 50s from his three SANFL League games, Pascoe is among the most advanced players. He provides run off half-back, takes marks one-on-one, is a penetrating kick who hits his targets and is also a genuine goalkicking threat when he pushes forward.

Could be a good Johnson replacement

Isaac Hewson
Inside midfielder already playing Reserves for Norwood in the SANFL. At 183cm, 79kg, Hewson is a stoppage specialist who wins high contested possession and clearance numbers. His game is very advanced game for his age and is one of the more ready-to-play midfielders among this group.
