Marsh brothers, handscomb, finch all set to be dumped from the current test squad.

Puvcoski, Burns, Stonis, and possibly renshaw to be added into the 15 man squad.

Burns I'm fine with, need to reward runs somewhere in the order.
Pucovski is a complete shot in the dark, hasn't done anywhere near enough to earn selection so this is probably to get some people off their backs.

Stoinis seems to have made it in off the back of the one man campaign from Warne, another middle of the road all rounder that's not test quality at either discipline but gets a game.

Renshaw I'm fine with, out of form but he has to go to England so may aswell re introduce him now

So happy the marsh flops are gone. Mitch is young enough to come back one day. Just make some ******* runs first son.

Finch should never have been there and Handscomb a little unlucky but can't go to England either.

Happy with this squad although the bowlers were very lucky I think

Also for the first time in a while looks like they are using the CA XI game as a an Aus A game and getting some red ball practice into some test players

yeah I like it. lets find out which of the young/untried guys can step it up a notch.
I don't mind the test squad either. looks better than the last one, but like you say our bowlers are lucky after having an average series. hopefully they can turn it around vs the Lankans and carry some of that form into the Ashes.

We didn't get a single LBW for the summer. The 'world's best' pace attack didn't get a single LBW at home for the whole 4 test series.

Cummins took a 6fa, then took 8 wickets in the other 6 innings. Our bowling attack was horrible this summer, I think they were just as bad as the batsmen for alot of the series

Doesn't help when some bright spark suggests bowling short as the primary bowling plan.

Just pretend it was a tour to India in the 70s or 80s; you wouldn't be remotely surprised we couldn't get an LBW.

This is the situation why neutral umpires were brought in, yes?

Big factor, I'd imagine. Having a neutral umpire from elsewhere allows you to use the same pool of umpires more often, so more consistent officiation and a better standard of umpiring, in theory.

I'm pretty happy with the changes made to the test side. Largely the most sensible candidates have been both dropped and selected. Though I'm not a massive fan of his, the main guy I feel sorry for is Matthew Wade. Selectors have been hanging on for ages about if you make some runs you'll get an opportunity. Well, Wade had made more than anyone else and their excuse is “He’s playing as a wicketkeeper batsman for Tasmania and it just so happens we have a wicketkeeper batsman in our test side in Tim Paine." Pathetic.
Hohns said he'd like to see Wade play purely as a batsman further up the order. Obviously because having Harris, Burns, Renshaw, Khawaja and Labuschagne isn't enough top order batsmen to have in the squad.

I'd also have liked a change to the bowling squad, even if a younger bloke can in to replace Siddle.

Fair enough, I just think we should pick the best 11. I don’t agree with picking youth for the sake of it, pick players in form regardless of age.

My point about Maxwell not getting a fair run was at the Australian A tour. He was discouraged by CA from playing county cricket to get ready for the Aus A tour of India in preparation for the UAE tour. Then he wasn’t picked for that tour, and lubaschagne surpassed him after his “performances” which included two ducks.

Yep. I've never been a massive Maxwell fan but he has been undeniably screwed over by the selectors.

And then, because of our rooted fixturing, he misses out on a bunch of Shield cricket because he gets selected to play short form cricket for the national side whose games clash with the Shield season. Of course, he could decline to play for the national side so he can back himself getting a test call up but that seems as though he'd be most likely cutting the throat of his international career given his past experience.

I wish the team would be picked on merit like they keep spring and not on potential or a whim like what happens in reality.

Who ever developed that plan should be sacked before the start of the Lankan series. All 3 of our fast bowlers were horse s**t this series and they are good bowlers

That's ****ed. If it was the 80s Maxwell would be within his rights to go into one of the CA meetings and land a couple on the chin of them for being so disrespectful to him.

Are they? Two flat pitches made them useless and they couldn’t find a way to get Pujara out . The use of short pitch bowling works if there is a plan behind it . Not just banging it in ball after ball and hoping it works .
Why aren’t our bowlers held to the same standards as the batsmen seem to be . If Handscomb is dropped why hasn’t say starc been dropped?

All 3 average under 30 in test cricket or atleast did before this series. But they are very one dimensional. They are effective on fast wickets but don't adapt to different conditions.

We need to go out and find one of those English swing bowlers from the 05 series and hire them as a coach.

What's Matthew Hoggard doing? Get him to spend 2 months with our bowlers explaining to them how to bowl there.

My XI for the 1st Test (based on squad selected):

Joe Burns, Marcus Harris, Usman Khawaja, Marius Labuschagne, Travis Head, Matt Renshaw, Tim Paine, Pat Cummins, Peter Siddle, Nathan Lyon, Josh Hazelwood

Left out: Will Pucovski, Mitchell Starc (rested)

Would have liked Tremain and Wade to be given a go. If Wade can prove himself as a specialist batsman, I am all for it.

Maxwell exceptionally unlucky.

I don't think Maxwell and Wade are unlucky at all. they've had chances before and they haven't exactly set the world on fire when given those chances in the past. their overall stats hardly stand them out from the pack, so they are not exactly automatic inclusions. plus batting at 6 is no way to get noticed by the selectors, that's because the selectors know that it likely wont translate to runs at test level. if they are such good batsmen surely they'd be batting top 4 for their states.
my team would be;
Renshaw
Harris
Khawaja
Burns
Pucovski
Labuschagne *don't really like him, but I prefer him over Head.
Paine
Cummins
Lyon
Starc
Hazlewood

Here's my XI
Harris
Burns
Khawaja
Wade
Stoinis
Maxwell
Paine
Cummins
Pattinson
Lyon
Siddle

Vicco bias Obviously.

My other (admittedly stupid) XI
Brayshaw
Oliver
Neal-Bullen

Jones
Harmes
Jetta
Lewis
GAWN

I know All of the are MFC players but with those jokes who call themselves cricket players, I'd trust the MFC to the ACB.

I think that's close, but would sadly keep Head over Labuschagne. At least lets Pucovski ease in at 6 and doesn't leave us with such a fresh middle order.

Renshaw
Burns
Harris
Khawaja
Head
Pucovski
Paine
Cummins
Starc
Lyon
Hazlewood

I think we know these four are our best bowling unit. They've done the job before and the quicks are different enough to avoid the same deliveries coming down all day. Should stick by these guys; no one else has been brilliant that they're demanding a spot in the side.

We don't have a clue what our best batting lineup is. Form, technical deficiencies, criminal lack of talent, mental application are serious question marks for most of our bats. We're still casting a wide net for players who can do the bare minimum, never mind finding gun cricketers at this level.

No need to throw the baby out with the bath water; the bowlers are fine, we shouldn't be chopping and changing them along with the stickmen.

Ben Cutting getting his nose split just reminds me football season is still a bit away.

Nasty look though you don't see in Cricket to often

I read the most incredible article on fox sports the other day, apparently CA in their big fancy report said that 30 was the new 50 and we just needed to find more blokes who could get a start.
Aaron Finch was selected due to him reaching 30 the most times in the last couple years.

Apparently during the test series we reached between 30 and 70 the most times any Australian team has without a century. Congrats on lowering the bar CA
