I think we got in S Mayes to replace Neade in that role.

That doesn't mean you go and draft a guy whose twin brother was just drafted to the club he grew up supporting in his home state two picks prior. Retention would be an issue for anyone with GC but it's a fait accompli with Ben.

I don't mind the Carlton trade. They've backed themselves to essentially score and extra first round draft pick. Crows are no guarantee to launch themselves back into premiership contention and some moderate improvement from carlton could make them the winners in the trade.

Nothing is certain but i'm not arguing that the option they took wasn't the more risky one. My point is that they drafted who they wanted rather than worrying about the other factors which are well covered.

Surely the AFL are going to be stepping in behind the scenes more to make sure that these guys stay. I think Ben King is enough of a solid citizen that he'll try and forge a career for himself up on the GC.
