Bolton let slip to Walsh that they had rated Stocket at 8 in a Twitter video where I'm not sure if he 100% knew he was brought recorded

you'd do pick 4 for pick 8 and pick 14 i reckon

Be handy if Jackson Mead has a growth spurt and ends up similar size to his dad. Like Tredrea went from a winger to a key forward in a year.

Was 181 at the start of the year.... Would love him to get to 188-190ish. Would be an absolute beast.

A comment on Zak Butters at 1.11 was that he has a bit of Hayden Ballantyne about him. Annoying little prick, is he? Could be what we've been missing after Monfries retired.

You see it in some of his video highlights ... Very happy to get into the face of oppo players. I like him a lot. He is going to be a real character!

This is totally worth a read to see how and why all the picks fell as they did. Quite a few "sliding doors" moments too. Of note is that quite a few clubs were after Butters and Duursma!

The article needs to be fully read. This line suggests we may have erred in overlooking Stocker :
"But if Xavier Duursma, the mobile Gippsland Power midfielder, hadn't been taken by Port Adelaide the previous selection, the Crows were set to keep their choice and take Duursma instead of accepting the Carlton deal."

But these later sentences show that we were never really into him or Collier-Dawkins :
"Collier-Dawkins was at this point falling down the order, which made other clubs jump to attention. St Kilda was particularly active in trying to get back into the first round, with Collier-Dawkins believed to be on their radar. They offered the Crows a similar trade to Carlton for that pick 19, including the Saints' top pick next year, but Adelaide knocked it back.
He wasn't in the minds of Port with their third pick (No.18), and neither was Stocker, with the club believing it had enough bigger-bodied midfielders. Duursma offered something a little different, which was why a couple of clubs, including Brisbane, were eyeing him off with possible deals as the night unfolded."

And the only first choice we missed out on was Max King :
"Port's choice was a close one. They had visited the Kings two days before the draft and would have taken Max had he gotten past the Saints. They decided after that visit they would take Rozee, who filled what they had lost in the Trade Period, including star goalkicker Chad Wingard.
They viewed Ben King as a defender and saw that as less of a need."

Bit of luck with Adelaide and the Giants here :
If the Crows had taken Caldwell, the Giants would have chosen small forward Zak Butters

Still a few stories of what may have come down with us if some picks by other teams had fallen different ways. Like Tibbs said, worth a read. I give it my two thumbs up. :thumbsu::thumbsu:

On face value looks like we did well but only time will tell. Happy to have rozee and not b.king.

Very interesting looks like we stuffed the crows up lol
I think it's pretty clear in hindsight that pur picks had an effect on them. They went into the draft with 4 really good picks, they ended up getting rid of 1 and sliding down on another. I feel like they were heavily impacted by our selections which made them have to change tack on the run, and they probably realised on the night that their positions just weren't in the right spots for the South Aussies they were chasing. Overall there's no doubt the players they got were stretches, but their pick trading was extremely clever.

So the Crows wanted both Butters and Duursma. Good to know given how highly they rate their recruiters.

Well done by the team to get us ahead of their picks. It seems like it was worth it in the end.

Especially with what we picked up late.

According to the article, we were keen on McHenry with our 3rd pick if he was still available. Seems like the Crows saved us from ourselves!
Henry v Woodcock over the next few years will be fascinating given what was paid for each.

Honestly despite their respective draft numbers if you offered me a straight swap of the two right now I wouldn't take it. Reckon the Crows overpaid hugely for McHenry and we underpaid hugely for Woodcock.

Yeah this. I feel like both were worth being drafted in the 35-45 range of the draft.

I wouldn't go that far but I'm not a fan of overpaying for small forwards.

I said the same when the Crows recruited Betts and I still stand by it despite not many agreeing.

Small forwards rarely win big finals.

So Woodcock kicking three in the SANFL GF is a pretty good sign then.

So Adelaide could have ended up with two top 5 picks next year!

No, it was one or the other. Carlton traded to get pick 19 and the St Kilda offer was also for pick 19 so that they could get Collier-Dawkins. Once Carlton had that pick 19 the only way St Kilda could have got RCD would have been to trade with Richmond.

Come on, always going to be a good player who gets overlooked which then peaks someone’s interest who can’t afford it.
