List Mgmt. 2018 AFL draft

I hope everyone who is being critical of our picks has watched the top 25 or so players live at least 5 times during the year.

Yeah I have. Not all live though. That’s impossible. There wouldn’t be anyone on this whole bigfooty site that can say that.

And yeah I’m critical

At first glance Rozee butters and Duursma isn’t a bad haul.

But when we’ve missed finals and lost Wingard and Polec ?

Rozee I really like but he is around that mark we picked him. He isn’t in the rankine/smith/max king area of being a top 1-3 pick most years the front end isn’t packed.

Butters I like but 10 really really is the top of his range.

Duursma is a solid second rounder.

Rozee was the safe best available pick, could've gone the Vic metro who wanted to leave in Smith or the injured Vic country but went Rozee, I've had weeks to get around to the idea and I'm ok with it and hoping he regains his midfield dominance of 2/3 seasons ago (9 in my power rankings)

Butters is your Polec replacement and has that campaigner we all love (19)

we were clearly red hot on dhuursma and i had him ranked at 12th so I'm stoked
perfect compliment to our midfield mix imo

Calmed down now. Actually, I was calm before.

Pick 5: Rozee = A-

Good enough. Could be elite. Not fussed.

Pick 5 + Pick 10: Rozee + Butters = A

As good as you could hope for really. Got a potentially elite inside/outside mid in a few years time and a potentially elite outside mid. Pretty much replacing Wingard and Polec. Gets downgraded because we could have had Smith, but gets bonus points cause Rozee might be in Lukosius' ear the same way Devon Smith was in Shiel's ear to come to Essendon. I've got no problem with these two picks.

Pick 5 + Pick 10 + Pick 15: Rozee + Butters + Duursma = C+

Not because Duursma is bad (I don't have an opinion on him as a player really, he could become elite at what he does), but because of the players we overlooked to pick him. It's Impey over Matt Crouch all over again - treating the symptom and not the cause. If Collier-Dawkins or Stocker had gone, fine, pick him. But what good is speed if your inside mids are getting slaughtered by teams pressing up into the stoppage knowing that there is no player with acceleration (and decent skills) to exploit them?

It's not drafting for what we need to improve our list now, it's not drafting for the future...it's drafting limbo. We are basically keeping the exact same team structure and backing it in, because Duursma is a runner that will most likely play the high forward role - that constant running role that a guy like Docherty plays. So if you think this draft is good, guess what? You're thinking that it was personnel and not gameplan that was the issue.

Me? I think it was having the wrong mix of personnel.

Make no mistake, these are Ken Hinkley picks. You can see Duursma replacing Sam Gray/Travis Boak in the secondary midfield/high forward role, Rozee replacing Wingard as mid-forward and Butters replacing Polec as the outside mid and the system being exactly the same as it was.

Contemplate that on the tree of woe.

I'll flick you some Dhuursma great TAC cup links when I'm at the computer tomorrow philthy05
deserved more midfield time at the champs imo

I think if he’s going to make it it will be as a centre square mid bursting out of packs. Don’t like him on wings. I like his running cause it looks like he is on train tracks, runs a lot like Polec, but just looks a kick and hope player.

At the moment the trade score between Carlton and Adelaide is :

CARLTON : McGovern, 19, cows 2018 first(12-15?) v ADELAIDE : 13, Carlton first (3-8?). If Carlton get close to finals next year or Adelaide finish at the lower end of the eight Carlton could break even. But if the cards fall as they have been doing over the last few years Adelaide will have made out like bandits.

**** those campaigner crows

That was tedious viewing. The clubs were obviously told to use the full 5 minutes every time. One official was caught playing solitaire while they waited for the allotted time to finish.

Clubs should have 2 minutes to lodge a bid for Academy players and then 3 minutes to make their legitimate choice. Nearly 15 minutes of faffing around for those picks.

And Carlton and Adelaide should never be allowed in a room together because no good ever comes of it.

Was what we always should've been gunning for. Don't waste a 1st rounder on a project key defender.
We need 2 in the rookie draft otherwise Broadbent and Garner will have a wasted year.

Rozee is going to be the best player of this draft, mark my words. He reminds me so much of Fyfe it’s not funny.
X2. I hope Rozee plays on the wing from round 1, and we try to develop him as an inside mid. I see serious potential in him. At worst if that fails, he can go back to half back and he will dominate there.

Rozee was always our man. I said it in trade week many times. We got to pick 5, so that we could get Rozee. It was obvious, and he is a great get.

All 3 should be able to play round 1 and that's what I wanted. I'm impatient. I want immediate results.

After trading out Polec and Wingard to get these picks, 2 of these guys must play round 1, otherwise the trade period is an epic failure for mine.

Yep this was the comical part. Ridiculous added delay for nothing. Watching the Carlton guys sit around in awkward silence for 5 mins with the 1st pick was just ridiculous.

Yeah I think the whole let’s show the backrooms is a bad move. The more mystery the better. I wasn’t against the forced wait period for the top 10 picks, you need to savour it.

you may hope that but you know that is not the case and it does not exclude people from having an opinion.

Happy with Rozee and Butters, pissed at missing Sturt.
.

Haven’t seen Sturt live but I liked his highlights. Reminded me of a shorter Marshall as he was very clean and played very quick. Also that upright balance that I see in Marshall.

There were too many good midfielders this time for teams to go past them for defenders in the first round. Not to say that defenders shouldn't be taken in the first round if they are good enough. All these players were taken first round.
Frawley(2006), Taylor(2007) , Rance(2007), Talia(2009), Docherty(2011), Whitfield(2012), Lever(2014)

Left out a few who weren't initially drafted as defenders and also those drafted by GWS and Gold Coast in their first years who probably would have gone later if they didn't have multiple first-round picks.
