I just don't see Nelson being more than an honest trier.
Also, I don't think he's that quick either. Seen a fair few comment on him having pace and I just don't see it.

Our future is with Rioli, Watson, Partington, Cole, Venables and Waterman. See a lot more potential in them.
* In particular, the bolded ones I think could all be excellent.

...

He so fast he breaks through the surface of the turf and ends up slipping over! Fortunately the new Stadium turf has been designed to be "Nelson-proof"

Its easier for me to list those who played on the weekend who wont be in the best 22 next year.

Hill, Mackenzie, Petrie, Vardy...add the two retiring in Priddis & Mitchell and that is 6 players.

replaced by:

Nic, Lycett, Rioli, Barrass, Cole, Venebles.

I think Waterman will also make his way into the team at some stage of the year. Possibly at the expense of Darling, who i think is a player who peaked in high school.

From the other thread:

With an eye on youth:

B: Sheppard Barrass Cole

HB: Hurn McGovern Duggan

C: Gaff Shuey Yeo

HF: Venables Vardy Darling

F: Waterman Kennedy Rioli

R: Naitanui Sheed Partington

I: Lycett Nelson Cripps Karpany

Not necessarily best 22, but something to really build on with a good balance. Not certain who I may have missed either. Redden and Jetta unlucky. Watson in if he improves.

I would expect redden to have a breakout year now that priddis is out of his way, if of course he is played in the right position. Definitely in the best 22 IMO

In my defense I did that a few weeks back before he hit some form.

i think what we have seen with redden is as good as it gets lacks football smarts, skill and versatility which modern players need is very much a one trick pony, depth player at best. we should aim for better than that though I am not sure if any established players who fits that bill would want to trade into us, just leaves the draft.

I don't think we've been watching the same player the last few weeks, sure he's not a star but he's a solid B-grader when he actually gets the chance to play his natural position.

For anyone who gives a ****.

My lecturer at Victoria University who works as a strength and conditioning coach for the western jets claims that Daniel Venables is a complete flog. Says he has a poor attitude and temperament, claims he wont make it in the AFL.

We need a bit of campaigner in our team.of mummy's boys. I remember Venables throwing a ball into the back of an opposition players head in the Wafl did lol.

Same bloke says Connor is a shoe in to belt Mayweather..

I don't have an issue with certain off field temperaments as long as they apply themselves on the field

Got no issues if he has a bit of Figjam about him, especially if he can back it up. In fact, I think it makes me like him a bit more! We have gone with the conservative good guy route of late, a campaigner who can back it up with skills is a good get for us.

However, I hope that isn't the real reason he has had such a delay in the recovery from his foot injury.

I would also suggest that his attitude and temperament may have changed significantly from u18's. Especially coming into a new environment across the country.

FB: Hurn Barrass Sheppard
HB: Yeo McGovern Duggan
C: Gaff Redden Jetta
HF: Cripps Waterman Partington
FF: Rioli Kennedy LeCras
R: NicNat Shuey Sheed

Bench: Venables McKenzie Vardy Watson

Emg: Nelson, Lycett, Hutchings, Darling, Cole, Karpany

If we trade in M. McGovern and Matera then maybe swap Waterman and LeCras out....
If we trade in Kelly then Gaff goes out....

Darling will get pushed down the order I think by Vardy, McGovern and Waterman.

Wellingham, Mutimer, Rotham, Allen and Masten retained as depth.

Hill, Giles, Lamb, Tunbridge will all be out the door. And obviously Brophy, Priddis, Mitchell, Butler all retired.

Schofield, McInness (if he's eligible, otherwise he'll be gone) will get rookie listed along with Petrie just in case we get key post LTI's. Bayok, Snadden, Gorter to stay on rookie list. Watson to get upgraded.

So we'll need to draft approximately 6 kids (do we even get that many picks?) and 2 rookies. From our 6 picks we need 3 pure mids, a ruck, a kpd and an x-factor.

Nah. Vardy? Lel.

Why trade in McGovern when we already have Darling/Waterman as 3rd tall types? Would be a waste of cash and whatever we'd give up.

Yeah, my lec said he is just super arrogant and already thinks he is a star.. didn't put the same work in on the track as the other boys.

He also said "see and him going to west coast is the worst place he could have gone.. coz of their culture" i just laughed .

Oh and he claims that his foot injury occurred when one of our strength and conditioning guys dropped a weight on his foot.. im now starting to think he just likes the sound of his voice.

I think the last bit is right. One of our coaches re-injured his foot or caused his latest injury

Hope he trains his ass off though

agree solid B grader, why he is a depth player. what i said he lacks stops him from being an A grader. modern footballers need to be able to play more than one role only being good in one position hurts the side. unfortunately we don't have enough A graders in the middle, we need to look at young guys capable of improving, guys like redden who are in there peak don't have enough improvement in them to take us forward but we should keep him around as a depth player

A team needs a solid core of B-grade midfielders in their starting 22 as well, no team has a midfield full of A-graders
