Bench - Myers Begley Mutch Laverde
*fingers crossed that we get something in trade/draft
Liked the 3xpace in the forward line so I keep Green and give added responsibility to Stewart/Francis/Begley
Still yet to see Laverde/Langford have a break out game after 3 years
Give Pidgeon another year down back Wanganeen style

I have at least 6 spots up for grabs in round 1 2018. 2 in defence and 4 on the bench.

__ Hurley Ambrose
Gleeson __ McKenna
Parish Heppell McGrath
Tippa Daniher Fantasia
Begley Hooker Stewart

Foll: Zerrett Goddard Zaharakis Bellchambers

Bench: ? ? ? ?

We probably need another smaller defender (Bags on a 1 year deal?) and another tall defender (Hartley not up to it)

Pick 4 players for the bench who apply the most pressure and actually want to defend up the ground.

No more Green, Colyer, Myers and guys like this. They will not take the club forward so whats the point of giving them games?

Baugley starts round 1, no questions asked.

I'm banking on a big pre-season for Francis, Laverde, Langford, Mutch and Begley. I'd be disappointed if Francis hadn't push ahead of Ambrose in the pecking order early next season. Langford has been training to become Jobe's replacement and I think he should start in the guts next year.

Baguley will still be best 22 at the beginning of next season. But I'd be disappointed if that was still the case by the end of the season. Either McNiece, someone new, or a taller defender needs to be pushing for his spot.

I've got 10 guys who will rotate through the midfield. A couple of others who can pinch-hit in the middle at times.

We also need to get games into both Mutch and Begley. Mutch should be a borderline selection by round one next season and I think Begley should comfortable gain selection over Green.

B Ambrose. Hurley. Gleeson
HB McGrath. Hooker. McKenzie (GC)
C Heppell. Rockliff (BRIS). McKenna
HF Begley. Daniher. Fantasia.
F Tippa. Stewart. Goddard
R Insert ruckman. Merrett. Parish
INT Langford. Zaharakis. Laverde, Balic (FREO)

Hurley Ambrose Gleeson
Lever Hooker Mckenna
McGrath Rockliff Parish
Fantasia Stewart Ablett Jnr
Tippa Daniher Laverde
Bellchambers Heppel Merrett
Mutch Goddard Zaharakis begley

i'm making the assumption we are getting Lever and we make a play for Ablett Jnr on a 2 year contract and we add Rockliff as free agent.

I think there needs to be a board wide PSA about how important Ambrose is to our defensive unit.
The lack of appreciation is confounding.

Langers and Lav need a big offseason.
Time to unleash Francis as a KPD. Our defence is poor at reading balls coming inside, and its his game.
These 3 we need to get fit enough for AFL in the offseason. They're all 1st rounders and hitting an age where they should be right to come in and play their positions.

Goddard needs to get out of defence. Cant compete aerially and he's too good as a stoppage mid. Succeeds Jobe.

Off-season
Imagine we will have a few outs
Jobe, Kelly, Stants, Hocking, Howlett, Bird, Jerrett, Morgan are names that have been touted
I question McKernan's spot when he was deemed useful to replace Hooker today and in rd23. But he can play Ruck or Forward.

Trades
Berger may have trade currency. He's too good to be #2 on an AFL list, we won't play two in the 22.
Draper is coming along nicely. If McKernan stays on the list, i'd be tempted to cash in.

The 2018 "super" draft may be one not to trade out of, but our 2018 1st must hold some attraction to rebuilding teams.
Part of me says target Lynch and send Hooker back, with Francis to play in Ambrose's spot.
Part of me says target Schache, give him a year to get into some good form and prime himself to replace Hooker as FF.

If Miles is up for trade from Richmond, i'd take a look. If only to add some mid-aged talent to our inside mids.
Would bring a work rate that has served richmond well this year.

Ideal off-season scenario
2018 1st & 2017 2nd - Kelly
2017 1st & Berger trade pick - Lynch/Schache

Bags Hooker Francis
McKenna Hurley Gleeson
McGrath Merrett Parish
Begley Daniher Tippa
Stewart Schache/Lynch Fantasia
TBC Heppell Kelly
Langford Laverde Zaka Goddard

I think the asaga rinse is a 2-3 year operation.

It won't be completely behind us in a list/development sense until players like Goddard are gone, imo.

This year was the first year of that rinse and we've done great. Hard to fault. So it'll be very interesting to see what happens now.

But as I said, Goddard is the key for me. As much as I value him as a player, I don't think we will have a flag winning list until he's at least fringe 22. The rest of the cogs should fall into place around that premise.

So until bj lite, redman takes his spot!

Absolutely. Cos you gotta remember, BJ was brought in as a cherry on top to win a flag before we got busted. Everything since then is working toward a different goal.

Im excited by the prospect of getting a handful of kids in from round 1

We just have to be brave as fans if it takes time...

Let's see mutch, Langford, Laverde, begley , Francis grow into their roles...don't start booing, asking for a new coach or game plan!

Let's just ride it out of it it gets tough, not go back to the older failsafes
