Play them both I recon. Actually, lets play all 44 of our list this year at some stage. Would love to see Duman and Strnadica get a run.
Absolutely , trade them out after 2-3 years rather than delist them , third/fourth rd pick will be quite handy with NGA Kids in the coming years .

Pretty much what I had. Taberner got a 1 yr contract at the 11th hour - doesn't exactly scream that he's in Ross's long-term plans. We'll roll out the Pick 2 and 5 when the time comes. It might be round 1, but I'd assuming they'll play some WAFL first.

Hughes Hamling Logue
Ryan Pearce Wilson
Hill Fyfe Hill
Walters McCarthy Bennell
Matera Kersten Ballentyne

Sandi Neale Mundy

Cox, Langdon, Tucker, Blakely

Are you sure that’s right?
I just checked on Tayl0r ’s thread.

Taberner got a two year contract.
After he delayed contract talks until after the WAFL grand final.
Sounds like he is in the medium to long term plans of the Fremantle Football Club.

He also had massive interest to go back to Vic but came out and said how settled he was in Perth. I’m sure he would have had assurances from Ross he will be given ample opportunity.

Ah yes. Right you are. 2 years.

I hope so. Ball's in his court now. If he can play the way he played against Carlton more often, he'll be fine.

Wilson - Hamling - Ryan
Blakely - MJ - S Hill
Walters - Mundy - B. Hill
Bennell - Pearce - Tucker
Matera - Taberner - Mcarthy

Sandi - Neale - Fyfe

Darcy - Logue - Grey - Sheridan

My predicted starting line up - assuming draft targets don't walk straight in.
If Grey and Sheridan are best 22, we're shit.

Hughes - Hamling - Logue
Ryan - Pearce - Wilson
Hill - Neale - Hill
Bennell - McCarthy - Mundy
Walters - Tabs - Matera
Darcy - Fyfe - Blakely
Tucker - Brayshaw - LDU - Cox?

I haven’t included Sandi or MJ but they could come in for Darcy, Logue or Pearce, with Nyhuis, Rixx and Grey as depth. We really need more depth. Fingers crossed Nads, Ape and Duman can continue to develop.

Reckon this is pretty close at full fitness. Spurr would be the one that I assume Ross still rates but we won't know until Rd1. He would take either Hughes or Langdon/Tucker's spot I imagine.

I have selected my 22 based on the future with no room for ailing vets like ballas and Johno. I have a spot for mundy and sandi as they are still far superior to their alternative. There may be a tall to many in there but this is our most talented/youthful side imo.

considering Ryan was pick 66, Cox was 41, Darcy was 38, Blakely was 34 and Neale was 58. Don't rule out our pick 42, 60 and 66 being very good players and helping out with the depth situation and we could even jag another Luke Ryan type who seems in perfectly to our best 22.

Way too tall imo. The opposite way of which we should be going. You've got 3 KPD, 3 KPF, 2 rucks and Cox.

Think the defense is solid but I reckon 3 out of the others have to be dropped for team balance.

I dont disagree with you really. I just wanted talented players in there to fastrack our teams development. I dont see a bright future for plauers like grey, Sutcliffe, Sheridan and to a lesser extent hughes so i dont want to dilute the talent in the team with plodders just for the sake of it.

If i were to justify my selections i would argue logue provides some rebound and bounce so really only 2 true talls down back. Up forward kerstan and McCarthy are both smaller mobile type player's than true key talls. And i think there is plenty of buzz and Nip from bennel, walters and matera to be provided. Perhaps sandi would be my first ommision if a tall needed to go. But Cox and Darcy are a massive part of our future in my eyes so simply get games for fasttracking development.

Depending who we draft maybe id replace kersten and sandi with smaller running types.

Logue was easily our worst defender for metres gained per game this year. I think in time he'll eventually provide some rebound but for now he's providing a fair bit less than Hamling, Hughes, MJ etc. I think people have him locked in because he was a pick #8 but he's got plenty he needs to work on (and thta's to be expected). He's going to be a great player in time but I'd actually have Cox ahead of him in defending, intercepting and rebounding personally (for the moment). These young guys deserve AFL games but I don't see the harm in them spending time at Peel if other young-ish players provide better output and team balance.

I'd rather us go with 5 or 6 talls and make them fight it out for spots. Too tall and we'll get smashed and there'll be very few lessons learned by anyone.

I'd consider it a win if Logue can progress the "Good" Ibbotson side of the game...work on the positioning for the spoiling and intercepting and be the quick link up that gets the ball to the half back distributors.

Pearce and Hamling should be the talls, complemented by Hughes and Logue who can play tallish, and Wilson and Ryan as key distributors.
Spurr and johnson should only play in the event of injuries to the other 6

I agree. But he got rid of both MJ and Hughes in his B22. MJ has his flaws but he still averaged 250m+ per game, Hughes was 200m+ and Hamling 150m+. If we are going to bring in APearce and Logue at their expense who are more in that 50-90m range then it's going to impact our ball movement and negate the effect of bringing in the best metres gained defender in the AFL.

Hamling, Wilson, Ryan and Hughes are locks imo - all but Wilson are good defensively and Wilson is an upgrade on Weller as a rebounding defender. APearce no doubt will be once ready as he is probably our best defensive KPD and could make a massive difference. But I think we've got to be realistic with Logue and Cox in that they still have plenty of development to go before they are producing similar or better output to those other guys. I'm all for playing the youth but I also thought we took too long to drop players to Peel to find form/work on aspects of their game this year.

There is a damn fine best 22 emerging at Fremantle.

I do think that you are too tall, and it shows on the i/c. Darcy and Cox are about as slow as it gets for talls and I much prefer the ability to bring some run into the game via the interchange. I think they probably need to be in the best 18 if they are playing.

Using your best 22 + next in line, this is where I see us going quite rapidly, perhaps end of season;

Ryan-Hamling-Wilson
Logue-Pearce- Hughes
Hill-Neale-Hill
Bennell-Fyfe -Walters
McCarthy-Cox-Matera

Darcy - Blakely- pick 2 (assuming LDU/Dow)

Int- Tucker- Langdon - Nyhuis - pick 5 (assuming Fogarty/Cerra)

We actually have a heap of experienced players who can roll through our midfield and provide some cover/protection for the pick 2&5s to develop.

Oh yeah, I added Nyhuis.

It's the AFL you start the year looking to win not develop players , there's plenty of time for that once the wheels fall off. So picking a team purely to win from the start

MJ Hamling Hughes

Wilson Cox Ryan

B Hill Blakley S Hill

Bennell Tabs Walters

Ballas McCarthy Matera

Sandi Fyfe. Neale

Int whoevers in the best form from

Louge Grey Tucker Langdon Draft picks Duman Darcy

Apness

Ballas , MJ , Sandi gone if things don't go well or forms not there

Wouldn't mind seeing S Hill get dropped at some stage if he under performs ( No more pets Rosco )

Cox may be a reach over Pearce but AP should play WAFL for at least half a dozen games to get his eye in and I like Cox in the McGovern role long term

Leave out the front of the new training facility for council collection

Spurr Sutcliffe Sheridan D Pearce Kersten

Tucker, Langdon and Cox could have breakout seasons imo
I don't see Matera being straight best 22 straight away, but he could be there eventually
If Pick 2 is Rayner/LDU/Dow/Stephenson/Cerra they should be best 22
If Pick 5 is Stephenson/Brayshaw/Cerra they should be best 22
Fogarty and Naughton could be best 22 if we pick them, but I'm not 100% sure (not saying they're bad, just interesting to see where they fit)
Sandi might not play much this year, as with Spurr. Let Hughes/another young defender and Darcy come into their own
As bad as BigFooty thinks Kersten is, he was our second highest goal kicker and Ross could give him the pick because of that
Johnson should be phased out over the season
Pick 42, our later picks, T.Duman, a DFA, R.Nyhuis and a rookie all could come into the equation for the last interchange spot/Mundy's spot

EDIT: Completely forgot Blakely, takes Mundy's spot and takes Grey out of the side
