I guess your call is reasonable however, Murphy!?

I voted for him, but i guess if Murph drops the captaincy for any reason, he may back out of the leadership group entirely.

I think with Doc going down it will be status quo for 2018. Then Cripps and Doc will be the candidates for 2019 onwards.

Don't think he would be out of the leadership group entirely though, almost everyone has noted his leadership this off season. More so than other years.

Threw Silvagni in the 5 nominations as a young future leader .
Love all this lads attributes as a footballer .
Talent , smarts , courage , passion and personality .
Yes he's got the surname and pedigree but take that away and the above traits will serve him and the club well .
Watched him endure through injury as a youngster for a lot of this season without complaint and thought this lad has what it takes in the AFL ...

Who didn't vote for Murph or Doc?

WTF...
No to Murphy for me, that era is over. Time to pass the baton on to the new blokes that have not yet been scarred by the lowest point in our history.

Time to let him enjoy his last couple of seasons, he has done his bit.

These were my sentiments ... until Doc went down .
Docherty i would guess has been chosen as the next captain having done a range of leadership courses and the like , having him ready to take over in 2018 .
Now that he will miss next season , do we give it to Cripps just to take it off him again in 12 months ?
This leaves Murphy as the obvious choice for 1 more season .
Far from my idea of a captain , he is nonetheless the incumbent and in a development year under the circumstances will have to do 1 more season .
2019 , Docherty (C) , Cripps (VC) .

Me too. Conservative this year and keep with the two "youngsters" - Doc and Crippa, with the older heads of Simmo, Ed and Murph.

Will enjoy next years leadership group vote - in comes the likes of Weiters, Samo and Plow.

Can't see too many changes here. And I'm taking a stab at an 8-man leadership group (might be too much, but I still see it as a possibility).

Murphy will remain captain for another year. Simpson vice-captain. Cripps, E. Curnow, Docherty, Kreuzer, Jones and Wright to round it out. (Players in blue are those I voted for as I consider them of great importance).

Not in any hurry to have younger kids as leaders just yet. Besides everyone is considered a leader at the club. The players are being taught to think more like a team than they have ever before.

That's why I believe we carry a fairly larger LG compared to some other clubs. We're being more inclusive. All a part of team cohesion.

Does feel like a perfect scenario for Murph to have another run around as captain before handing the baton to Doc. McKay and Doc both mentioned that in his year off he'd be doing some leadership training and the like so he'll be in a good spot to take the reigns in 2019 when we start our ascent. Cripps as his sidekick (and enforcer).

Guess I have to respect your opinion. I just feel it's to soon to hand it over when Murph has grown into the role so well.

Really surprised to see Lang miss out altogether. I think we've got that one wrong - he'll definitely be in the round 1 side IMO.

Re: the leadership group, I'd say Murph holds onto the captaincy for at least one more year.

We've gone with a 7 man leadership group for at least the past two seasons, so it wouldn't surprise if we saw that again in 2018.

My votes went to Murphy (c) supported by Simpson, Doc, Cripps and Ed. If we're to add one more, it'd be a tough call between Kreuzer and Plowman.

Might we see Doc step down from the leadership group in 2018? I would imagine he'll be spending plenty of time away from the group throughout his recovery, so it might be an idea to step aside and let someone else take over for the year.

Only an incredibly incompetent club would put a first or second year player in the leadership group.
why not double down on that ...

Not going to vote on the Leadership.

I was so certain of what was going to happen with Leadership in 2018 - Doc (c), Crippa (vc) and Murphy, Simpson, Curnow and maybe a Plowman and/or Weitering inducted in .......then Doc went down, and now only the Club internally can know the best short term action.

Ordinarily I would agree but with SPS we have something special. I think in his first year he showed plenty of leadership. I would say it belied his years.

If age is the barrier. The Gibbs example is one but I'm pretty sure the Bont captained the Dogs at 20 years of age.

I think Samo's got natural leadership seeping out of every pore. But any sensible Club, and we are now one, will let the kid find his feet in a whole new town, find his feet in the comp for another year or 3 and then reap the due rewards.

Bont is a freak and his maturity is phenomenal for what he's done, but it's not ideal.....and he's in his hometown around family and mentors etc
