Well the trade and draft period summed up why we need changes at afc. ******* bewildered by our decision making. Why didn't we trade into the top 5 picks during the trade period? I hope we do well next year but until Burton and co are exited from the club nothing will change.

Wow so
Pick 19 + Our 2019 1st for Carlton's 2019 1st

Let's say we finish 6th

In draft points value terms that is:

948+1,212 = 2,160

Pick 1 = 3,000
Pick 2 = 2,517
Pick 3 = 2,234
Pick 4 = 2,034

So it really is a gamble that we finish top 6 and they finish bottom 3.
points are irrelevant. What we've done is given up two mediocre firsts for potentially one of the best picks in the game.

If Carlton are bottom 3, this could outdo the McLeod -> Groom trade.

You think thats all that makes a team?
Dont see how another year into their next crop of guns like Crips, Weitering, SPS, Dow, McKay and then adding in Gov and and an AA in Docherty and a better run at injuries isnt going to give them a boost?
For real?
They'll get better sure, but it's a very very long way back. Youd back everyone bar St Kilda and GC to improve so it's hard to see Carlton finishing above 15th.

Jeez they weren't kidding when they said this draft is a deep one.

Names yet to be taken

Bailey Williams (Fingers crossed we get him)
Jez McLennan
Ian Hill
Curtis Taylor
Tom Sparrow
Luke Valente

Personally, I am hoping to god that we pick Williams, just by watching footage of him you kind of get the feeling he could be a big steal. Probs too short to be a no. 1 ruckman but could very well be a good forward. I have a feeling Ogilvie may look at Kieran Briggs though.

Both Brisbane and Fremantle will go pass next season, I can only see GC, St.Kilda and maybe Bulldogs/North around their mark so it will be a top 5 pick.

Oh dear! Did .. not .. see .. that .. coming!

Is this another Doedee moment?

Oh well, I see the Death Ride Carlton threads are up and going again.

Well, maybe we're going after a player like Cam Taheny next year and will probably need a low numbered pick to do it.

As an aside, was at the Alma watching the draft and the Lochowiak clan was in attendance.
What's a Lochowiak?

Yeah but but the game changes quickly. Right now it’s about tackling, pressure and intensity, over skill even, but who’s to say it won’t swing back to speed and skill shortly?
Tall, strong, powerful midfielders never go out of fashion.

Hopefully the guys we got are guns, but a couple of short arses is a bit of a concern.

next years draft is rubbish. a top 3 pick next year is 10th this year. There is no chance Rankine or Luko are coming back after one year. We just jumped at a trade we over thought and we drafted players we may not have drafted if we pre traded this pick before the draft. This is not Ogilvy's finest hour. In fact I don't think this trade will sit comfortably at all tonight with the AFC.
Ever seen Matt Rowell, Dylan Williams, Cam Taheny, Cooper Stephens, Noah Anderson, Will Gould, Lachlan Ash, Caleb Serong, Brodie Kemp, Lachlan Potter, Hayden Young, Emmerson Jeka etc play?

Nah, I didn't think so.

Because we couldn't and the clubs that held the top 5 picks were asking for too much. No club with a top 5 pick this year was looking at Crows pick 16 and 8 and thinking that's a good deal.

Blues board are stoked with the trade..... After so many years of being shit, you'd think they'd have a few reservations.....
The Blues board are stoked when they lose by less than 10 goals.

They are stoked when SOS gets reamed in a trade.

They are, year after year, delusionally optimistic about their chances of winning the flag in feb, making finals after losing first 5 games, finishing out of the bottom six after going 1-10, and finally when their spoon is cemented they begin their circlejerk over whatever poor **** is drafted by them at 1.

Luckily for us, we get to save that career, but watch the Blue morons still defend SOS.
