They had a ton of injuries.
They have a better team than GC, Saints, Freo and WBs, Brisbane and North could all have an average year.
As I said, I think in all honesty we fininsh around the same as next year (pick 7-8) and Carlton finish 4-5 (pick 4-5). So we give up a late first rounder to move 3-4 places. Would Stocker or RCD with the player we get at our first be better than the one player we would get 3-4 picks earlier than our first? Obviously Carlton think so.
Dont worry, I will front and centre in the 2019 edition of death riding Carlton thread, but we (and Carlton) have taken a punt.
They won't be better than Freo or North

So you have Carlton improving because they had a ton of injuries in 2018, but reckon we'll we finish around the same though we get Brad Crouch and Brodie Smith back, a full season out of Sloane, plus Walker and Betts not carrying niggles all year?
We have ruck issues, and an aging list. We have lost another top talent and I think we have a team that isnt overly close or happy.
For me we tread water.

Who would be your top 6 players next year ? .....state and position?
Hard to say at the moment, but, in no order

Noah Anderson - Vic M (classy, goalkicking, balanced mid)
Matthew Rowell - Vic M (another classy hard at it mid, won BOG in TAC GF)
Hayden Young - Vic C (hard edged, hard running mid)
Jeremy Sharp - WA (classy outside mid)
Mitch O’Neill - Tas (classy, hard running outside mid)
Dylan Williams- Vic M (X factor, skilled medium forward who will go into the midfield next year)

They’re my favourites at this stage

They can set an example but if luko and rankine wont sign on past the 2 years and request a trade back to the crows they are over a barrel
The example is for players entering the club in their 1st year and then choosing to go home the following year, there is no issue with them wanting to go home after the 1st year but them selecting their prefer club when they haven't got any runs on the board. Sure, after the 2nd year and your contract ends, you can select your prefer club and both clubs will get a deal done but if Lukosious or Rankine choose to go home after their 1st year, then GC will be entitle to get the best deal from either clubs, hence, why Geelong kept Kelly.

Who was the top end talent?? Gov is unfulfilled talent. Comparing our list to theirs is like comparing a Ford Laser to a Mustang

19 players re-signing shows they're a pretty close group

Oh i see us inside the top 6. It is carlton improving that concerns me. Anyone expecting a guaranteed top 3 pick is going to be disappointed

My favourite next year is Noah Anderson. Goal kicking X factor midfielder who accumulates

Top end next year is very good
And thank christ his old man Dean fell a few games short of the 100 games for the Hawks....though he is on the Saints board currently.

I'm pretty happy at this point. No shiney new draftee was going to roll into 2019 and get us a premiership. They may contribute if they get games, but the draft is future proofing our squad, and getting carlton's first next year is a solid move. Footy clubs are transient (I can use funny words too) and we need to be consistently be bringing in top talent.

No I believe Anzac is not eligible for the same reason his brother is not. Danial is a he is overseas and alternates sport pick
Yep no SA indigenous boy that lives metropolitan is eligible under current rules otherwise Rankine would be playing for Port next year.

GWS have an Academy kid who is a jet and possible top 3 in Tom Green.
Plus theres a decent Tassie kid who I have no doubt Hamish wants to draft with Carltons first.
Im going early with that call.
How do they and Sydney have all these academy guns and we get nothing?

You guys almost couldn't say no to a likely top 5-6 pick, which would be your highest pick in forever. .
The highest pick that the Crows have ever been allocated is pick 8 IIRC. We did trade Kane Johnson for pick 3 which became 2 with the Carlton draft sanctions. We gave up that pick for Wayne Carey :$
