If Melbourne bid on West at their pick tomorrow, will the discount we get on a father son mean our next pick isn't affected at all?

what does this mean from the AFL site

Dogs receive a future round 3 pick

From West Coast Eagles

Eagles receive pick 26
From Western Bulldogs

Dogs receive pick 24
From West Coast Eagles

Eagles receive a future round 2 pick
From Western Bulldogs

It was Sydney trading with the Eagles actually and those trades didn’t happen quite like that. They had a conniption at Sydney pulling the loophole clearly and couldn’t update their site properly.

That was a screw up on their part. Should have looked (and now does) like this:

Thanks, point remains though, if we go past 30 with no bid, do we have to take him at 35? I think we want Gowers and Khamis with the last 2 and we only have 5 list spots
In your scenario, we could trade Pick 35 for a future 2nd round pick if we found a club willing to do that swap.

What do you mean tomorrow? Does this go over 2 days?

I don't think we traded back for extra picks because there was no trading partners I would guess. Ben King sliding would have created some interest, and GWS would have been comfortable and happy with Caldwell. Plus if rumors of the Richmond threat of trading up is true, doing a deal with the SA teams would have opened us up to missing out on Smith.

I suppose its easy when you have multiple first round picks, but the Suns, Giants and Power have done pretty well with their hauls. Carlton gambled on their future for Stocker, but their midfield is pretty much set and forget now, though needs some more speed, class and x factor. Fremantle got a forward they desperately needed. Brisbane has done alright this off season landing Neale and now Eli Smith in the draft. Will be the biggest risers from the bottom of the ladder I say. Gold Coast not addressing their midfield is interesting, but they replaced Lynch and May, picked up a good secondary/third forward and defender in Corbett and Collins. Midfielders are easy to find, so if they can find a solid ruck man and get some experience into the middle they might finally start to gel a list together.

That being said, curious to who will slide to our next live pick outside of West? All the players I hoped would slide or that we would trade up for are now very much gone, nothing too exciting left over at this stage.

If we land Ian Hill now, I'll be a very happy goodcop
Highly doubtful Eagles trade out now, if we did suspect the deal includes a pledge we don't take him.

For those in the know, who would be the next best three or four names you'd be keen to see at the Kennel if we did get the WCE pick?

Not going to bother reading through all this but here's my thoughts:

Glad we got Smith, very excited about him.
No bid on West yet is great.
Would have liked to try and trade pick 7 down, but with the way things fell I can't imagine anyone below us was really willing to. GWS got Caldwell anyway, and King was the player Port wanted I think. Adelaide had no need to. Also can't believe that other trade happened in our 5 minutes, ****en tricked me.
Would have liked to trade up above a bid for West but that can still happen.
That Sydney-West Coast pair of trades was pure genius. Not sure what West Coast are getting out of it though, wasn't the net result for them a trade down a few spots? (EDIT: just realised it was an upgrade of their 2019 third for Sydney's 2019 2nd).
Ian Hill the best player left but not sure how we get him, expect West Coast will take him next.

Pardon my ignorance, could someone explain to me what has to happen for us to draft someone else at our next pick and West for later picks?

Is it simply if there isn't a bid for him before our next pick?

Yes, whether that be our current next pick (30) or if we trade ahead of it.

Would love it if we did that with West bid. If only to expose the stupidity of the AFL rules
