Yep. 57 is gone. 43 is our last pick. so using it on Khamis doesn't make sense.

My dream was 3 in top 30; smith, west and another. We ended up with Smith West 41 and 42.

So on balance probably a draw?

How do we get Khamis from here? Do we have to use 42?

Isn’t this what the system is suppose to be. What have Melbourne done wrong ?

Yeah I'm really confused by the hate towards Melbourne. It's not like they did something spiteful. We'd have done the same in their shoes. Did some of our posters expect everyone to pass on West and let us get him at the end of the draft just to be nice?

What picks? The two second rounders would've been gone. Our next pick is currently sitting at pick 57. Our later picks are worthless and are for upgrading Lynch and Gowers.

So basically we would've had just pick 57 to match bids on both West and Khamis which is a massive shortfall. Power did fantastic and hasn't compromised our draft position in future drafts like some wanted too just for a kid at pick 20-25.
No I'm suggesting that Power should have traded up ahead of the West pick with some late change back to buffer the West bid instead of just trading back so less picks were absorbed.

I'm sure he tried it would just be a shit storm of conversations around this draft. Maybe Sam was a little too meek in his first draft.

We got a bargain, West was in the top handful for VM at the champs and has real aggression in his game. This is just like pick 41 for Libba all over again.

yes, which is why we should trade 43 for a late late pick and a future asset.

Did you see what clubs had to give up to get those early second round picks. Think we probably investigated the possibility but glad we didn't sell the farm

Never get posts like this.

If west’s real market value is 10-17 why wasn’t a bid put on in that range?

It happens a lot with the Father Sons, other clubs get turned off them a little earlier on into the year and don't put as much work into the player knowing it's likely going to be for nothing as we will match it. Why put time and resources into a kid who won't be at your club unless you massively overpay? They will bid a pick after his normal value prior to our pick (like Melb did) to keep us honest and not let us get too much value, but i'm very confident he would have gone earlier than he did if we weren't able to match it.

Future 4th rounder next year gives us 2019 trade flexibility (stupid AFL rules).
