No doubting that. As you say different courage. Kelly's courage and toughness are legendary in AFL Circles. Rodney Eade told me of how during his coaching tenure at the Swans where on several occasions Kelly would come off the ground after running himself to exhaustion would lose control of Bodily functions or the amount of times where sheer exhaustion would see him on a drip for hours after a game. Broke his scapular and tore his ac joint in a game the week before a final and was no chance of playing for the rest of the year and walked into Eades's office on the Tuesday and Told Eade he would be right to Play. Eade laughed at Him. 4 days later Kelly played and touched the ball 40 times. That just is a sample size. Legendary.

Here is the current clause from the CBA.

    http://www.aflplayers.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2017/08/2017-2022-CBA.pdf

    13. Payment of Total Player Payment and Additional Services Agreements

    (a) Each AFL Club must expend no less than 95% of the combined annual Total Player Payments and Additional Services Agreements limits in Football Payments to Players on its List in each relevant year.
    (b) Where an AFL Club does not expend the amount set out in clause 13(a) in payments to Players on its List, the AFL Club shall be required to pay to the AFL, any shortfall in Football Payments.
    (c) The AFL shall advise AFLPA whether each Club has expended 95% of the combined annual Total Player Payments and Additional Services Agreements limits in Football Payments and shall advise AFLPA of any shortfall by any AFL Club including the amount of such shortfall.
    (d) Any shortfall will be distributed in an equitable manner between the Players in the relevant AFL Club in a manner determined by the AFL and AFLPA after consultation with the Players from that Club.
    (e) AFL Clubs may spend over 100% of the combined Total Player Payments and Additional Services Agreements limit (Combined Limit), if in any of the preceding three years the Club has spent below 100% of the Combined Limit.
    (f) The permitted amount of overspend will be tied to the level of underspend in the relevant preceding period. For example, if a Club was $500,000 below the combined Total Player Payments and Additional Services Agreements limit in 2017, and paid 100% of the Combined Limit in 2018 and 2019, the Club would be entitled to spend $500,000 above the Combined Limit in 2020. If a $500,000 overspend was not made in 2020, the Club has lost the right to overspend in 2021.
    (g) It is agreed that the overspend amount is to be capped at a maximum of 105% of the Combined Limit in any given year.

Correct, there are different rules for free agency.

If Cyril walked away and didn’t get paid, then there is nothing to be included.

The list has nothing to do with it. He has been paid out fully and won’t be included as part of the up to 44 we can have.

You are talking about something completely different, which is whether any of his contract amount will be included in the salary cap for 2019.

No I’m saying we might have to both pay him next year and then retain him on the list

We know nothing about how much players are paid.... There are rules, but, we know nothing.

That article was written in Feb 2018 and said could from the start for a rule I can’t see.

Nothing post that for the last 8 months has indicated that he would be on the list in 2019.

Safe to say that it’s not the case.

Montagna also believes he didn’t rape a girl but then again, he was never called into question for his part. Filth!

So if you dont spend 95, say 92, tha AFL receives the 3% difference and gives it back to the players at the sme club. Hmmm, wonder how many times that has happened. Bit of a loophole

Where will the currency come from?
Collingwood have nothing to give and need points for Kelly and Quaynor.
Hawthorn likewise - no high quality picks and probably have less tradeable depth

The AFL has to get hold of this. Contracted players should only be able to speak to an opposition club once a trade value has been agreed... or just admit it’s a national comp in name only

Not since Melbourne pre the rule, it was bought in to stop clubs from doing it.

    Agree there. Speculation though is:
    - scully to hawfs has been touted for pick 53
    - wingard for pick 15 + burton to port
    - as for beams to pies..could be all airy fairy! Though where Vics are concerned, anything goes at the moment.
