Giants are just ripe for the picking at the moment. Never heard a club be so transparent about the need to shed salary.

If we have salary cap space, Id be making big front ended offers to guys like Perryman and Himmelberg. Even if you can't get them next year, lay the base for next year.

2nd only to the the North Melbourne Football Club meltdown the Hawf board thread is a great read too - they all thought they had Shiel in the bag until... they didn't! 10*(normal melts) because it was Essendon.
I was imagining just this when I heard Shiel to Bombers. Admit to having a rather loud snicker in office today. Hawk fans been their usual self lately regarding Shiel.

We have nothing they would want to compensate them for his loss.

Sorry, not trying to beat you up.

This thread is weird to be honest. It is like Christmas when I was 6 and I was sure I was going to get a plane. A real one.

******* Dad. Failed me on that
Haha nah you're all good mate. I'm predisposed to a little wishful thinking. Happy to be brought down to earth!

Depends if they get in early enough, sounds like it’s pretty much been agreed to. Could well happen, though

Besides, would WCE take 13 for 20 and 22? And would Geelong take 13 for Kelly (it’s not a top 10 pick)?
Geelong would get a 20% discount for pick 13 so it will end up being pick 10.4!
That's pretty close no?o_O

Whether we land a big fish or not, it's really irrelevant. Whichever slightly better than average players come to us, who are still out there, nothing's really going to change...

The current list we have now is still good enough to push for a premiership. Our team now is probably at the perfect balance. Improving young guys mixed with established stars/vets. Our young guys of, Jones, Mills, Hayward, Papley, Florent, Allir, Lloyd and Hewett are players getting better each season and have all played enough football to only continue to improve. Buddy, JPK and Parker will still be solid. McVeigh the general is still all class, and Redge/Smith are still solid backman that can do a job.

At the end of the day, it's all about coaching and staying healthy. We all know that if guys like Naismith, Mills, Melican and Reid were healthy, we would've been much much better. All we needed was just Sam Reid at least! He's got a better set of hands than bud, takes good contested marks and takes so much pressure off Buddy and stops teams from doubling Bud. Our whole attack changes when Reid is in... Oh, and I haven't gotten to Naismith who pushes Sinclair forward more where he is much more effective...

I'd rather see us experiment with what we have already, I'd love to see guys like Aliir and Rampe around the stoppages. Both are big and can use their size to win the ball. We all know Aliir is a freak athlete, and Rample really looks to be bulking up a little bit. Would like to see Jones around the middle as well, with his speed and skill, he can really be a silky player to win centre clearances. Let's also not forget about Mills..

If there's one player we really want... Should be Tom Langdon. It means we can take either Aliir or Rampe out of the back potentially. Tom Langdon is also a gun, carried that entire Collingwood backline the whole year who were constantly hit with injuries. A backline of Redge, Smith, Langdon, Melican, Lloyd and McVeigh would be interesting. And of course guys like Rample and Alliir can be utilities and switch from back-mid through out the game. It's time we roll the dice i think. Aliir forward to help buddy would be so interesting as well...

Other than Shiel or Gaff who are now gone, there's really no player out there who will make us any better? Rather Horse gets his finger out of his ass and makes some changes to our system and experiments with out players.

Rant over:)
Very naive opinion. This list is still a long way away we were no where near a premiership this year even with such an average even comp. VDB would make a lot more impact than what people think, along with Langdon will instantly make us better. But until we develop a new look midfield and get some outside run and accumulation we are not even close. I’m hanging on ling and stoddart to make a push in that regard. Our youngsters still have a lot of developing to do but there is no doubt they’d be upto it in a couple of years as long as we play our cards right.

I’m impatient AF sorry as trade period seems to be coffees and lunches , just get on with it ffs.

We haven’t recruited a walk in best 22 player since Buddy.

It’s time we get going again

Would we trade a brownlow medalist for pick 14 and late pick swaps maybe?
Mitchell was out of contract, out of favour and played out of position.

I don't think many of us would have thought he would be a future brownlow medalist when we traded him.

If we wanted to play him in his prefered position at the time it would have involved us having to trade out Hanners, Parker or Kennedy which would have been met with utter outrage by the fans.

Of course in hindsight we don't make that trade, but it allowed us to pick up Florent who fills a huge need in our side so the trade could still potentially be a win/win.

Wong.

We were 2nd on the ladder halfway during the season. If we had beaten Gold Coast, we would've finished 4th.

The Premiers West Coast, we beat them twice! We also beat Collingwood... Suggesting we were no where near a premiership is foolish.
