The trend I see is at the beginning of the season the SA, WA and Northen Academy kids tend to stand out as top picks in the draft and then as the year progresses the TAC cup kids climb the ranks till draft day.

Why would you want use a 2nd rounder on Ben Silvagni?
What's your genuine opinion of Ben Silvagni? I haven't seen him at all. All i know are that some have said he is fantastic(probably biased) and some have said he looks a mile off it(probably biased).
I heard he beat Clavarino, kicking 4 on him in a school match. Not a bad effort. Then i heard he largely played in defence after that.
Interested in your, or others, opinions.

Hard to form one based only on what players who have played APS against him have said - which wasn’t enough to say he’s worthy of any pick, let alone a second rounder, at this stage.
Doesn’t mean he won’t develop/improve at school and hopefully make the list at Chargers in 2018, but to acquire picks to bid on a kid with so little exposed form is a bit odd.
At least with (say) Naish, he’d been through the u16 Champs, played a bit of TAC as a bottom ager and all of his top age - obviously made Vic Metro before he was taken at the end of the second round at 34.
Yeah it's hard to read. SOS is on record as saying he's against pushing young kids too early and the feeling is he holds his kids up as much as possible early on. But that hasn't stopped him drafting SPS and O'Brien mainly on their underage year. So yeah i dunno there.
Secondly, i don't think the club are holding any picks for any player, including Ben. I think the drafting of DeKonning illustrates that. Supporters thought we would go all mids this year and then add Ben next year to Curnow, McKay, J.Silvagni and Kerr. But SOS went with DeKonning.
In saying that though, Ben Silvagni, young Manton and young Hickmott are all on the clubs training camp right now. So the prep is being put into them if they show enough this year.
On the Carlton Board it has been dreamt for 2 years already that Ben is a diamond just being hidden, and then pinched at the draft. Personally, i don't know if there is any reality in that and am just interested to see him actually play. If he's draftable, i'll just be happy with the 20% discount.
In the trend is for talls to fall and midfielders to raise.
Victorian Metro Talls are high risk for interstate clubs and I expect Fremantle, Suns, and Lions to all be in the bottom 6.
I expect one or both Kings brothers to fall out the top 10.

Individuals have different levels of risk at interstate clubs, can't group every VM tall as high risk with blokes like Jonathon Patton (Eastern) and Peter Wright (Calder) thriving and committing to their clubs. And unless there are no vic teams at all in the top 10 I doubt we'll see both King brothers fall out, but like people talking about brander and higgins last year I could be made to eat my words

All drafted/traded to interstate clubs and happily plying their trade for years on end.
BTW - Josh Schache was a Vic Country player. In fact I can’t think of a single Vic Metro KPP drafted interstate who asked to be traded home in the past 6 years. Can you?
No point making a claim if it’s not supported by facts
Trading and drafting are too different things and drafting will depend on your pick. Trading for a player you have more information about the player eg playing against men vs against boys
Using a high pick on tall at the best of times is a risk as talls develop later. Now with the game changing with role of a dominate key position being less than the past (still important), talls will fall. You look at the tend, there is less and less talls taken in the first round.
As for your list. Lets compare Vic Metro talls in the top 10 selected by an non Victorian team.

In the next draft, Lions need more depth in the midfield and they want to climb up the ladder as quickly as possible and they have good developing talls.
Suns want players who can play straight away or will take less time to develop and their key positions stocks are pretty good.
Fremantle need a power forward and may go one of the King twins. Freo pick will be around 5 to 8. Who knows they may out that pick.
If Boyd was a midfielder would that have changed things?

Upshot appears to be Billy Longer wanted out of Brisbane (as did Docherty, Yeo, Karnezis and I think one other). Boyd copped an outrageous contract offer you wouldn’t knock back in a million years.

By the way, I saw only one example of interstate teams not picking a Key Position from Melbourne. Fremantle went with Hill and Port Harlett instead of Hurley since 2007.

Plus I don't think Brisbane need key position forwards at the moment. What they really need is super classy midfielders.

They will go midfield eg Rankine, Walsh etc.
Fremantle need a power forward, prefer Lukosis than the Kings.
Suns need to win games straight away and for me they will a midfielder as well.
Giants may have a pick if another player leaves. For me, they are ok with bigs.
If there is one thing our academy produces, it’s talls.
We have another KPF & a medium forward in our 2019 crop. And I think there might be another in the year behind that.
It is mids that we need. A lot of Lions fans really like the look of Sam Walsh.

Thanks to the academy we may have a surplus of key forwards in a few years.
Not sure how I feel about this.
Maybe Brisbane and the Gold Coast can start trading surplus players. We trade our surplus KPF’s for their surplus mids.
