Atu a talent but I want to see the year unfold and what he offers. Been a few kids like him over years feted and dont make it. To be fair has more intensity than a few am thinking of.

Will politely disagree on Quaynor. Know you have watched a lot as well but what I have seen has impressed me. He is getting the balance right between his attack and defence and his running to position is good.

Do agree re Wraith. He hasnt done much but I want to see how the year unfolds for him. His coach is a big advocate.

Re Kelly yep his progression has been terrific of late and reckon he is a defender. Again want to track but the trajectory is there and the physical attributes are there. He is still a later pick for me.

I deliberately have looked at any rankings yet as dont like to have a look until post champs when I have set mine but my top 25 or so am happy with but after that am neither he nor there.

Wraith screams 19 YO next year to me. Needs another 12 months.

Quaynor anything after our first rounder we will take, he’s in that second round region for mine (about 20-30 IMO).

I think we will get Kelly without a bid IMO, Atu I’m not certain get picks up but if he does it’s a rookie.

My two cents anyway.

I rate Quaynor around 40 if I'm to extend out my power rankings which is why I wouldn't be able to justify using a choice inside the first 30. If clubs rate him top 30, I'd be more than happy for Collingwood to pass on him and take a better talent.

He's an advanced prospect physically. Can run and take on the game some but not at a high level.

Kicking is adequate but not great - he'll blast long, rarely lowers his eyes. Reliability to targets is fine when he actually spots one out but doesn't often enough.

Capable 1v1, able intercepter without being an elite reader.

He's someone who can be a role player, and with his body so advanced, he can play sooner rather than later, but I'm not seeing anything that makes me as enthusiastic as other recruiters seem to be.

I've seen a lot of Quaynor, and my view coming out of each game is the same.

--
Bailey Wraith I don't have getting picked. People at Carey speak him up and say he's a quality guy who will work, but he's done nothing at Oakleigh to suggest he's draftable - capable athletically as he is. He needs to start delivering on matchday.

Will Kelly I didn't see anything in as a forward and until last week is one I would have said I would have steered well clear of. V Country he showed genuine progress and looks like he may have found his spot as a key defender. I'm now more interested in what he has to offer through the second half of the season. If he keeps improving down back - intercepting and winning his 1v1s, he could be draftable in the latter portion or as a rookie.

--
Other recruiters don't seem to be talking about him, but Atu is someone I'd draft in a hurry as a rookie. Pressure/tackling is fantastic. He's a high % contested ball winner. Don't know how he test, but he feels quick in game and like someone who could grow into that pressure/crumbing small forward role. Of those Collingwood have priority access to, he's the one I'd make a point of taking.

Is there any one remotely draftable we could get??

You rookie every known player under the sun

If you had a pick around 14 who would you be hoping to get?

Jack Lukosius in an ideal world ;)

But I get the feeling we will end up with that pick just outside the top elite talents and then in the next bracket of players so I think for a variety of reasons, Curtis Taylor, Xavier Duursma, Riley Collier-Dawkins are three probably coming into consideration. Connor Rozee is another, although with his output thus far I have a bad feeling he starts off like an Aish at AFL level - slick foot skills/low accumulation - and that could be a concern considering it's taken this long to get Aish's confidence back up.

If Bailey Williams is there, and if Darcy Moore ends up leaving, I think he's the obvious choice as an immediate replacement. He played a stinker on the weekend, but that vertical leap and athleticism is something seriously good to work with at AFL level. His cleanliness to grab a ball off the deck with one hand and not break stride like he did in the Trial against the Allies was just showing how good he could be.

I get the feeling we probably won't go a "small" midfielder like McHenry/Jones. I think a lot depends on our off-season and whether Moore stays/goes as to whether we go tall or medium.

  • WILL Kelly says following in the footsteps of his father as a Collingwood player would be a childhood dream realised.

But the son of 1990 premiership player Craig Kelly is aware nothing is certain after brother Jake was overlooked by the Pies.

Kelly is a 193cm key defender who impressed again for Vic Metro on Sunday after also playing as a key forward for Scotch College this year.
  • Craig Kelly was a bull-at-a-gate Pies defender as well as the co-founder of management company TLA often touted as a future president of Collingwood.

Will Kelly played the best of his three games against Vic Country, locking away his opponent as well as winning 14 possessions and taking a strong contested mark.

He is considered a later pick in the draft but the Pies could also mine their Next Generation Academy zone with exciting half back Isaac Quaynor.

The 180cm running defender grew up a Collingwood supporter but with a Ghanaian father he is linked to the Pies through their Oakleigh zone.

Quaynor missed Sunday’s national championships game with injury but in some phantom drafts is assessed as a top-15 pick.

    Draft prospect Will Kelly.
Kelly told the Herald Sun he was happy with his development this year and would be thrilled to get to Collingwood.

“I am happy with how my year is progressing so far but I definitely have things to improve on so I will see how it goes at the end of the year,” he said.

“It would be pretty surreal (to get to Collingwood), it would be awesome. But I am just keeping my options open in case I don’t end up at a club at all, or at Collingwood.

“I just have to see how it goes.”

Collingwood will have to assess where other clubs bid for Kelly but his upside and athleticism make him a more draftable player than Jake.

Jake Kelly was no certainty to get drafted at any club but through sheer hard work has fashioned himself into a quality player.

The 23-year-old was overlooked by the Pies and Adelaide swooped with Pick 40 in the 2014 rookie draft.

Collingwood’s only pick in the 2014 rookie draft was Corey Gault (six games), with Adelaide also securing Charlie Cameron with the seventh selection in the rookie draft.

“Yeah, I think I was in Year Seven and I learned from him that even if you don’t go to the place you really want to, you can still make your way with where you want to go with a different path.

“There isn’t any certainty, it’s what happens. (Dad) is just taking it game by game, always pointing out places where I can improve, but he’s the first one to say I have done well too.”

Will Kelly is taller than his older brother — 193cm to 190 — and has a strong frame at 83kg

So do we rookie him then or pass and risk that he blossoms as a 19yo in the TAC like Langdon and Phillips?

I reckon we will draft him, so much more impressive as a key back, looks natural there unlike as a forward.

Pass. 19YOs can still be drafted under NGA. Daniel Hanna for Essendon is one example.

At 193cm he is not a key back anymore, he needs to be 195cm or taller to have that point of difference, we will get him at a very late pick if at all, because at his current size he won't replace any of our current similar sized defenders

193cm is fine for a key back. Not to mention he’s still a kid and could well gain 1-2cm in the next 12 months.

Yes he is a late pick at the moment, still can grow a bit yet so could get to 195cm plus so the chances are that he will play that role. The point was as a forward l don’t think he would get drafted, but as a back he will.

Schaz and Dunn at 192cm seem to be doing okay. Josh Gibson at 189cm, Dale Morris at 190cm also had reasonable careers. Kelly also may still have a cm or 2 growth left in him. I'd doubt he'd be overlooked due to only being 193cm.

100% the pies take Will Kelly. Hopefully he slips through to late 3rd/4th round and we can pick up Quaynor for 2nd pick

Cal Twomey has rated them both in the All Aus u18 team most of the year. Interestingly said last week he doesn't buy into the idea this is a super draft

my gut feeling is we will lose Darcy Moore but gain Tom Lynch, keep De Goey & get these two kids. Optimistic yes...
