The issue with an untried player in a draft is they are st this point:

Potential.

Many at the top end will be very high level long term pieces.

The ongoing dilemma ofcourse is swapping known quality for unknown potential.

For us;

and let’s assume Lukosius does become Nick Riewoldt in career what would we swap today for that potential?

I’m happy moving fine players for such talent but not De Goey.
As De Goey is known elite level and just projects as too good to lose, in my view.

What if Lukosius is injury prone or doesn’t measure up or becomes only Fraser Josh level?

Too high a price for me.

Well that is the Gamble you take but I doubt we trade any of our Top 5-7 Players to get him

Assuming we get IQ and Kelly, would that make it four players on our list who grew up supporting Pies?

IQ
Kelly
WHE
Howe

Moore,Daicos and Cal and Tyler Brown the only other I can think of

Knightmare and Snoop Dog could you see us Trading Future Picks in this Draft to try and move up or could we Trade Down or out of the Draft?

Yeah it’s an option given someone may slip who they really want. It does present challenges though as have limited spots. Particularly if forced to take Atu in National. Don’t forget chance other clubs trade their 19 first rounders in. Going to be interesting.

Feedback I have had from club land is everyone playing cards close to chest this year.

It will certainly be interesting to see how it goes with the new format. We'll no doubt hear plenty of whinging if it does look like it's being "padded out" just to keep the show going for 2.5hrs!

I just love the draft, have long considered draft day to be my favourite day of the year, so definitely don't mind having two days of it!! But I can understand why some people won't be happy with this change.
I enjoy it too, but lets be honest, they are luckly to stretch the whole draft out to 2 hours in recent years. I'm not sure doing it over two days achieves anything. I'll still watch, but I'm prepared to be underwhelmed

Ben Crocker was a big tragic wasn't he?

We could definitely look to trade some picks this year for something higher. But we would have to get creative to trade any future picks.

As we traded our 2019 1st in the Beams deal I'm pretty sure we now can't trade any of our subsequent 2019 picks. The only way we could trade a 2019 pick is if we were somehow able to land another clubs 2019 pick (which could then be on traded). Highly doubtful though.

Interesting as I thought maybe some Teams could line up some Possible Trades IF Certain Outcomes happen

Was going to say what about Moore, Daicos, the Browns and Crocker, but too slow...

One view I've come to develop over more recent years has been the concept of players getting drafted to good teams and developing better there, while earlier picked talent go to bad teams and fail to develop/fail to maximise their development.

If Lukosius goes to Gold Coast. You're probably right. The chances are De Goey has the better career.

Give him to Collingwood/Adelaide/West Coast/Hawthorn/Richmond. Some established team with an established culture, good coaching, veteran leadership and good player development. And I think the career outcome is an entirely different one.

Is it any fluke that Franklin/Roughead exceeded Deledio/Tambling? Pendlebury exceeded Murphy? Selwood exceeded Gibbs? What about Stephenson this year? Oliver to a rising Melbourne?

I don't consider these to be talent ID things entirely. Gibbs could have been terrific on another level if he landed elsewhere, Jack Watts would have had a lot more confidence on a better team. How about D.Swallow/O'Meara/J.Martin for Gold Coast being rated the bests in their draft? They joined a Gold Coast lacking leadership and player development and they haven't developed.

If it's Grundy/P.Cripps/Oliver, I'd probably take those three just because they're all still so young, have so much great football ahead of them and they're among those most elite by position at young ages. But otherwise, Lukosius is entirely too special and I'm taking that career outcome over anyone else in the competition and sticking that on my hypothetical team.

Even in Collingwood's situation, projecting Collingwood finish outside the top 4 in 2019 (though certainly in the mix again to contend) I favour the longer term value Lukosius represents and even from an immediacy of performance perspective like the versatility he offers as someone who can have 100+ marks per 20 games and break games open with his kicking from seaosn one whether used forward or back.

De Goey is on the rise. And when he gets hot, get out of the way. But he's not of that top 10 in the game standard and lacks the completeness of his game to have quite in that conversation as a low endurance type with no defensive component to his game yet and a still hot/cold kind of game. He's one you hope can maintain or improve on his late 2018 performance, and with this the first year he's done that, he's still a wait and hope type, as much as he caused clubs trouble late season and during the finals.

Highly unlikely. This year only as a method to accrue more points so that bids can be matched for IQ and Kelly, if the club believe it's required.

I read somewhere that IF Quanor get's a 1st Round Bid then we could trade the 2020 1st Round Picks

Bet Club wish they could Re-Do the Murray Trade

So it’s just the first round on the opening night? So we’re basically hoping to have nothing to do until day 2...

Lot of Talk Quyanor will get a Bid in 1st Round so we need to Match or Pass on Him
