Carlton thinking about Rankine is interesting. Could be anything that kid.

Carlton's priority has to be a mid to take the pressure of Cripps. The kid is a gun but he can't carry that whole team on his back every week for 22 weeks. He will be on the scrap heap by 25. Lukosious would be tempting for them but they have a great crop of young KP talent already (and added McGovern) so they just need to take Walsh. All the experts rate him as the best mid they just have to take him.

In saying that I would be tempted if I was the Blues to trade 1 for the Suns 3 and 6. Suns then have 1 and 2 and Blues then have 2 early picks instead of 1. Take the 2 best players at 3 and 6.

We have 4 but leaves us no live rookie selections. I think you are right they will go 3 and one in rookie which I suspect will be Atu. Personally I think Atu might get bid. Hope not but reasonable chance when I went through process and number of clubs looking for his type.
Is this assuming both Irish can be cat b? If one of them is cat a, I'm pretty sure that we only have 3 genuine picks.

The issue for the suns is if they already have 2 and 3 and knowing the blues are taking Walsh and unless they’d love Walsh why give away anything to the opposition as there is no net gain for them in their drafting reality?

I think that they would love Walsh too and could realistically see them trading up to take him. It would then depend on whether the Blues would be willing to overlook him in favour of 2 x top 6 prospects instead. Walsh is about the only top 5 prospect who's been open in stating that he'd be happy to go the Suns if they took him. The SA boys seem a really big flight risk to me if they go to the Suns. Vey much like when Freo seemed to reach for Brayshaw a couple of years back. Brayshaw was of such great character and pre draft was very strong that he'd be happy to go anywhere (and stay once picked) that they took him over some more highly rated fancies. He will be a 10 year plus player at Freo.

Can we please just start remembering that one is definitely Cat A? Someone on here confirmed from an AFL staffer and I linked a tweet with the AFL.com.au Collingwood reporter Ben Guthrie confirming too.

Now that I know that, that’s a great point.
If he’s hapoy to go there that for them
Must be worth gold.

If I was then I’d take the two King twins and build from there.

I think he does. Atu hasnt had the development pathway of others and his trajectory this year has been v good. To be fair Knightmare was more convinced earlier than me (I probably didnt get there til later i the year). He just does some things both offensively and defensively which make me stand up and go he could certainly play a role. He is on the cusp of national and rookie and to be fair I had him in the National only bc I didnt think we would have a live pick in the rookie and that we would have to therefore potentially leave a spot free for him. I think that may have changed so you might see me alter that.

May as well mark him down as a Collingwood player now based on the bold and highlighted above.

Derek Hine seems to love those types and almost trots that exact line out every draft for one of our later picks! Lol

Gary Buckenara's top 30 list is in the HS. Our two boys he has at 11 24.

11. ISAAC QUAYNOR
Defender, 182cm, 82kg, Oakleigh Chargers

Buckenara says: A versatile defender who can play both tall and small, Quaynor is quick and is able to use that to provide drive off halfback. He’s a pretty good mark for his size, which gives him the ability to also potentially play on taller opponents. He has great agility and reflexes and should develop into a very good versatile defender. I expect he’ll be a top 15 pick and Collingwood, who he’s available to via their next generation academy, will match any bid that comes for him. He’s too good to let slip.

Plays like: A smaller version of Ben Stratton (Hawthorn)

Will Collingwood draft Will Kelly, the son of premiership Magpie Craig Kelly? Picture: Hamish Blair
24. WILL KELLY

Defender, 193cm, 83kg, Oakleigh Chargers

Buckenara says: The son of Collingwood premiership player Craig Kelly, Will should be snapped up by the Magpies because he’s exactly what they need — a key defender. In fact, he’s one of the best key defenders in this draft, so getting first rights to him is invaluable for Collingwood. He had a good under-18 carnival and showed he can play on a variety of forwards because of his athleticism. He finished off the year well in Oakleigh’s Grand Final defeat despite actually playing under some duress with a lower leg stress fracture in the back end of the year. That type of injury isn’t ideal for a young player but the courage to play through pain shows his mental strength and overall toughness. I’ve got no doubt he’ll join Darcy Moore, the Brown brothers and Josh Daicos as father-son recruits in black and white.

Plays like: A more athletic and skilful Craig Kelly (Collingwood), sorry Craig but its true

Has he been given 4 years?

What would justify a lower penalty? We just don't know if there are any mitigating circumstances but at this stage you'd have to expect the worst case scenario.

A good read as always Snoop. If we pass on Atu at 63 as you suggest we might, can we still match with that residual senior list spot if a later bid comes or do we then need him to slide to the rookie draft?

If we match a bid on Quaynor day at 15 or earlier, how can we trade a future pick to get say a Hill today 18 if we don’t have a first rounder in 2019? Can we trade a 2020 pick?

Be waste trading back in for Hill

Buckanara rates Quaynor at 11.

I hope no one calls us on it. We need those points for both and I'd prefer not to have to go into defecit for them.

IF It is a Pick around 10 it be hard Call to Match or Just say we don't rate him that Highly.

Your Thoughts Snoop Dog and Knightmare

Given how we have managed the points the Club has to take him. Otherwise the decision is let a player go who you rated around #15 and take a player at pick 50 because you will still have to use those selections to match Kelly around 30. Given what they did with their points they are 'all in'.

Yes we can and thats what I would have done in the mock but was to hard to do it.

I suspect they might take Isaac and Will and then probably a player at mid 50's (assuming picks work out that way). They will then pass on the last and match if a bid comes on Atu. If not they can take as a rookie. Gives them cheaper salary cap and more flex on future upgrades.

Collingwood will match any bid on Quaynor unless it's top 8 given the points discount and the way Collingwood have traded with the purpose of having the points to match Quaynor and Kelly bids. And I'm by no means expecting such an early bid. It would be a shock to see a bid come inside the top 10.

All the talent in the world. Could be an unbelievable player but not sure about the attitude.

The Bolded I be most Worried about.

Has a Ton of Raw Talent/Upside but read/heard Reports that Worry Me with Off Field Stuff

Foxfooty.com.au can reveal Collingwood and Essendon, who both currently don’t hold first-round picks for the 2019 draft, will not be permitted to trade any future selections at this week’s draft, unless they receive a 2019 first-rounder back from a rival club.

The other clubs affected will be Adelaide, Carlton, Fremantle, Gold Coast, North Melbourne, Port Adelaide, St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs — eight teams that have already traded away at least one of their 2019 selections. Due to that, all eight clubs will not be allowed to trade their future first-round picks during this week’s draft, unless they replenish the specific round future selections they recently lost.

These restrictions are designed to protect clubs from themselves. They also carry extra significance, given it’s the first year of live trading during the AFL draft.

The Magpies and Bombers gave up their 2019 first-round picks during October’s trade period in deals that saw them land Dayne Beams and Dylan Shiel respectively. Subsequently, both are set to be restricted on draft night, according to AFL regulations.

“If a club trades a future first-round selection, it may not trade any other future selection from that same draft,” the AFL regulations read.

“But if a club keeps its future first-round selection, it can trade any of its future selections from other rounds.”
The other 16 clubs all currently hold a first-round pick in the 2019 draft, however only half of them — Brisbane, Geelong, GWS Giants, Hawthorn, Melbourne, Richmond, Sydney and West Coast — can trade their future first-rounders away, as they still hold a full allotment of 2019 selections (future second, third, fourth and fifth).

The other eight, at this stage, can’t trade their future first-round picks, because they don’t hold a selection in at least one of the other four rounds in the 2019 draft.

For example, Gold Coast might want to do a live trade on draft night with Carlton.

— Carlton currently only holds a first-round pick and two third-round picks in the 2019 draft.

— The Suns could offer to give the Blues Picks 2 and 3 in exchange for Pick 1 and Carlton’s future first-round pick.

— This deal could not happen, unless the Blues receive a future second, future fourth and future fifth-round pick in the deal to replenish their 2019 draft stocks.

Conversely, a club like Hawthorn, which at this stage has a full set of future picks, can trade their 2019 first-round pick in the 2018 national draft, should they wish to trade up the draft order and secure a higher selection.

The 2018 national AFL draft will this year be held at Marvel Stadium across two nights, with Fox Footy to broadcast both days live.

The first round will be held from 7pm on Thursday night, before everyone returns at midday on Friday for the rest of the draft.

I say the AFL will make sure the Whole 10 Minutes are Taken Up between Picks even IF they come in Early.

Might get Sick of Hearing from So-Called Draft Experts telling us about the Prospects:straining:

There's likely to be 22 picks in the first round Dave - if they do as you predict and take the full 10 minutes between picks (which would have us sitting there for 4 whole hours when you throw in the 20 minute intro / "who is going to be picked tonight" fluff piece) then I'm going to write you a Very Angry Letter Buddy!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad::mad:
