Interesting we have Nominated Wraith as he seen even a Long Chance to be Rookied. Must be thinking of putting him on the Cat B Rookie List

Ok let’s assume we are taking

Quaynor (what a great name by the way) and f/s Kelly.

Assuming we likely have another pick down back who will it be?

  • Stick your necks out....

I’ll go for Noah Gown simply based on a key sized player who might be available and shows talent (by what I’ve heard and read).

Why did you feel the need to take the leap to saying lies? Nobody said squat about phantoms lying, that’s your imagination running wild. Phantom drafts are guesses as to where players are going to be drafted, nothing more, nothing less. Some guesses are more educated than others, but at the end of it you have to take it all with a massive grain of salt, because as we found with Twomey in 2017, there’s a lot of cases where he’s just throwing darts and hoping they’ll stick.
It actually wouldn’t surprise me if recruiters fed him false info for the shits and giggles tbh. His phantom having Adelaide bidding on pretty much every NGA/FS prospect is just ludicrous.

As for them being worth reading? Some are, some aren’t. Twomey falls in to the latter category for me. He is a joke when it comes to junior talent id.

Using Callum Twomey's phantom draft as an example we would need 1,474 points to match bids on Quaynor at 15 and Kelly at 25 - this would leave us with a 224 point deficit for next year (pushing our second round pick back to a mid-to-late third round pick), push our third selection back to the very end of this draft and we'd have no ability to match a bid on Atu before pick 56, if that is what we have in mind.

(actually I'm not sure if we could match a bid on him at all if we're in deficit, based on what is stated in the bid matching rules)

Based on nibbles that have been coming out of the club I'm guessing that our recruiting team aren't expecting bids to come on one or both of Quaynor and Kelly as high as everyone is saying and that perhaps they're not expecting to be in deficit at all, maybe even holding onto part of pick 60 so that we still have a pick in the 4th round to take a flyer on someone (Atu if he is still there, Munn or someone else).

All we need is to hang onto 10 or more points after matching the bids on Quaynor and Kelly and we will still have an end of 4th round pick (instead of having to potentially wait for every other team to pick over the scraps before our third selection at pick 90).

i think that is nail head, right there.

He’s likely, just not very good at talent ID and follows the known patterns and known players.

I do give him a tick for at least putting it out there but that’s about it. And in terms of “trusting” his order, a firm no from me.

Those nominations get lodged fairly early in the year don't they Dave? If so it'd be silly not to nominate all the players available as you never know what the year might bring.

If we use our picks to match on IQ and Kelly then I'm not sure Gown would still be available at our residual pick(s). Hard to see us passing on A2B2 as a free hit late in the draft or in the RD.

Yeah he’s had a few. I’ll put a fair bit on it being a WA kid though. Might be Patrick Farrant or maybe a Graydon Wilson if they just go best available around that stage in the 80s.
