Xavier Dursma would be a good 2nd round pick getable around that 20-25 range, vic country lad who is higly skilled, has speed and can play various roles through the midfield and elsewhere. I wouldnt be suprised if we cant add a lucrative first round pick we will in turn chase multiple second round picks given the depth of this draft.

Agree LL, there will be some good talent around our 2nd rounder, some others that may be available then- Chayce Jones, Jack Bytel, Jye Caldwell, Liam Stoker, Thomas Berry.

I'd love to get one of the big 4, and trade our first next year for a selection in the 5-9 range where we could get one of- Riley Collier-Dawkins, Connor Rozee, Jackson Hately.

It would be fantastic to get 3 of-

Bailey Smith/Sam Walsh.
Connor Rozee/Riley Collier-Dawkins.
Thomas Berry/Xavier Duursma.

+ Connor McFayden, Kiedean Coleman, Casey Voss.

The Clayton Oliver example is thrown up a lot to illustrate that kids can fly under the radar but really he is the very rare exception. Most kids are known entities to clubs at least from the outset of their top age season even though still developing/improving. He was not only injured at the start of his draft season but also had changed clubs from Pioneers to Bushies and really showed nothing for the first half of the year as he adjusted to the new team and grew his fitness. He won the Morrish medal with 15 votes, but only one of those came in the first 9 rounds. I watched most of the Bushrangers Melbourne games that year and knew most of their players but when this red head started getting possessions and goals in the second half of the year I had to look up who he was. He was definitely rated after that, even though he hadn't played rep footy. But I'd say if you asked clubs mid-year in his draft year how they rated Oliver not many would have had him in their top 30.
Oliver is certainly the exception given how far off the radar he was but, every year, there is significant movement in the consensus draft order between the champs and draft night. I'm sure that there are times when a player has been rated highly all along in clubland but that the "expert" draft watchers haven't caught up. But there's also times when a player goes from "he's got some nice attributes" to "he's bloody killing it" in the July-Sept period. Or it is a half back/forward flanker getting moved into the midfield and showing that he can win the footy regularly. And then you have draft combine driven player movements - eg when a guy with a perceived poor tank pulls out some quality endurance testing.

Almost every year, at least one player (often a midfielder) goes from outside the universally "accepted" top 10 to right in the mix. A couple of good games in the TAC Cup, a performance in the seniors at SANFL, WAFL or NEAFL level - not every player drafted in the top 10 does so based on 3 years of elite performances. I'd almost guarantee that someone will pop up between now and November that will, in some minds at least, be somewhat worthy of comparison to Walsh and Smith as pure midfielders and thus a genuine consideration at picks 5-8.

Conole making the same noises as last year. Take the best on offer with our first pick. Also interesting point he made about Fages and Nobes setting themselves three drafts to get the list in order and this is the third. Maybe after that we will look at some serious trading, especially if next year's draft is not viewed as being as strong as this one.

I just had a look at the FA and RFA for end of 2019 at it's a pretty uninspiring bunch except for Dylan Shiel and Stephen Coniglio. Josh Kelly is OOC as well but you'd have to trade for him and wouldn't come cheap.

If that is the case, I would be VERY open to offering our first pick next year for a first round pick this year.

Im not sure who will bite though tbh. Perhaps North in an attempt to clear out of the first round to maximise taking Thomas? West Coast for a similar reason although that might not be worth it as it could well be a very late first.

Edit: Maybe Gold Coast if they end up with a fist load of firsts. They may want to spread the intake of highly rated kids over a couple of years for list balance.

I think Hawthorn might. If they get Lynch as a free agent, they will think they will move up a few spots next year, so adding an earlier pick would be worth it for them

From what I have read, Noble is against trading future picks.

There hasn’t been the same hype for next years draft crop as there was for this years draft crop this time last year.

In saying that, there has been discussion about the top end kids and that SA and WA both look strong for next year.

There looks to be quite a few NGA kids from SA next year, and Vic M has some very good mids.

Haven’t heard much about the Vic C underagers. Maybe cotter101 and Bicks could offer their views on next years Vic C kids.

Come on briz, don't confuse me with next years crop, I have enough trouble working my way through one draft class at a time.;)

I do not follow any of the other clubs closely, so it was interesting to listen to yesterdays episode of Northern Exposure talk about the possible moves of the Gold Coast might be doing to angle for a potential PP or other draft concessions.

Really hope they rate this draft and if so, stick to the three year plan and trade out next year's picks to fully stack up from this draft. Would suit our age demographics etc, and certainly must be worth it if this draft is as good as they say it is.
