Just pray St Kilda win another game otherwise pick 4 Likely pick 5 and miss out on one of the big 4 .

If we do miss out on those 4 as discussed I’d be looking at trading 5 and our 2nd rounder for 2 first rounders and target the second batch of mids such as Hatley, Caldwell, Taylor or RCD . Still a lot to play out never know the suns might force a trade instead of compensation pick to make a stand which would be beneficial for us

I softened them up for you a couple of months ago. Smith wasn't a new name.

Yeah I had been for quite sometime too.

You think he might be bid on early and we pass on him?

That’s my thinking. There’s going to be a slider we’ll be into big time I feel.

Not out of the realm of possibility. They stuck to their guns on O'Meara right down to the wire with Hawthorn and good on them - have to try to buck the cycle of Melbourne clubs coming in like vultures to feed on the lists of under-performing QLD teams

I honestly think if it’s ritchmond that gets lynch they will ask for say pick 18 minimum and a top 10 player for them. Ritchmond will say no but if they really want lynch they will make it happen. Perhaps pick 18 and a senior player on a long term contract with years left such as a Vlaustin , Ellis , grimes or lambert.

If we end up at pick 5 some chance saints would take a king brother. Particularly the defender given the age of their key backs. But they do need a star midfielder.

Although talk today thy are into contracted hannebury. Maybe their first pick on the table for him (he is contracted and still only 27) probably not worth pick 5 after this season but some steak knives from swans to saints maybe.

Pick 10 and Hannebery for pick 4 and a future second rounder?

Try and get a pick before Blakey is bid on.

Lynch is a Free agent. Richmond won't be giving up anything for him other than salary cap space. Gold coast will get band 1 compo (pick 3).

Gold Coast have won 4 more games than us over the last 5 years.
We've also received one more priority pick. Also bear in mind, I said the Gold Coast right now, in other words, in 2018, are worse than we've ever been. I guess it's debatable, but even when we were losing players, we were never getting our heart ripped out year after yea. We also have success in our history, while Gold Coast are an expansion club who have never even made the finals. It's like they're trying to start a car with no engine.

Restricted free agent, meaning Gold Coast have the option of matching the offer and thus forcing a trade (or PSD).

They won't match. They have closed the door on him by taking the captaincy, excluding him from team meetings and making known their displeasure. They will possibly do a deal, but not call the other side's bluff.

Pick 3 for Lynch is a fair outcome IMO. If they want a very good experienced player, they should just trade the pick 3 they recieve for him.

I would put money on them not matching (and us unfortunately being pushed down to pick 4/5/6).

If we get pick 5 or 6. I reckon we could be the first club to offer up a pick for a trade during draft night. If the King twins are ranked 5 and 6 and they left and our top 5 are gone. Then I think we might be better offer trading that pick say 5 for say pick 7 or 8 or 9 or 10 and get maybe another early pick in the 20s or late teens.

We need to stock our midfield with more talent. Beams and Zorko probably only have maybe 3 seasons of good football left in them.

See Adelaide and Geelong dealing with Dangerfield. Adelaide talked to Geelong, and said "we know he's going, but we're not letting him go as an FA. Offer us something better in trade". Geelong never even bothered lodging the FA paperwork, and they reached a trade. The story is different this time, because Gold Coast's FA compo would be circa pick 3, instead of pick 17, but the overall theory still works.

Past trades would suggest that Lynch is worth two picks in the top 10. Pick 3 isn't bad compo, but it's also not great. Gold Coast could quite easily expect more than that, EXCEPT for the fact that Richmond/Collingwood aren't likely to have anything better to trade. They could get Richmond's first and second round picks for two years, and it'd still be worse than pick 3.

GC will be investing plenty of time and effort into this. They'll be lobbying the AFL for special compensation and figuring out just how good they can get - might get mid AND end R1 picks, either as compo or as compo+PP. They'll be talking to the AFL about matching and sending Lynch to the draft as a sign to Stevie May and any other players - short term loss to stop a mass-walkout (the sort of thing we should've done in 2013) and whether the AFL will give them some special compensation... Gold Coast can benefit from using us as an example here, plus the AFL like them better... And while they're doing that, they'll also be talking to Richmond and Collingwood before the FA window opens, and telling them to figure out which of their best 22 players are willing to move to GC, as they can outspend them, and want more than one top 10 pick.

Don't get me wrong, I'd still think Richmond/Collingwood will call their bluff and lodge the paperwork, and GC will likely take it. But GC will be covering their bases, and if they sense weakness, or hear of a good player who might be willing to make the move, I'd expect them to dig their heels in.

The “big 4” definitely going top four has a whiff of groupthink about it. Nothing is set in stone.

One of Smith or Rankine still feel faintly gettable at 5 to me. The Walsh dream is dead without a trade though.

* Unless we lose to GC, like we did earlier in the season.

GC traded pick 2 last year for Weller, so Lynch (often rated in the media as the one player if you were starting a new club you would pick first) is worth less???
