Am I missing something on Zac Bailey? He looks alright, but not almost certainly amazing, and definitely not justifying the scraps we got for Schache. I was much more excited by Berry in the first half of last year than I've been about Bailey this year.

We ended up with 15+18, instead of 18+20+25... And apparently it's awesome because we got Bailey, who other clubs may have taken by 18. Lachie Fogarty, who we were apparently in to, has played every round. Oscar Allen is the other I heard us linked to, though he hasn't debuted yet. Just don't know where the uber-excitement about Bailey is coming from. He played his first game and looked like a first gamer. I'm quietly hopeful he'll be a long-term player, like I am with any fresh draftee, but some people around here seem hugely excited about him and I'm not sure why.
Didn’t every player look like a first gamer last week?

The real issue with the Fogarty vs Cameron debate is that if we stuck with our guns and stayed with our pick 18 for Cameron Adelaide would have eventually folded IMO and we could have had both.

I don't know how you can state that as an absolute fact.

Cameron himself has said that he was pretty much resigned to staying at Adelaide and was pleasantly surprised when we eventually gave up 12 for him.
Assuming he was actually getting feedback from the Crows on the trade, It seems more likely that if we dug in on the offer of 18, he'd still be running around in an Adelaide jumper.

I believe the real issue is, having acquired Charlie, do we think "pick 12 " would have given us a better return?

In any case, all the ifs buts and maybe's about our trading are pure hypotheticals that we can never get an answer to.

How can you come to any sort of judgement about him based on one game, where he was surrounded by so many spudworthy team-mates?

And where exactly is the "uber-excitement" that you speak of?

You're creating an argument where none exists.

There has been a lot of exciting talk about Bailey, both on this forum and the Lions podcast since before the draft.

I do believe it’s early days to be drawing to many conclusions about our recent draftees.

Club and fans talk up young player, hey? Next time we should do the opposite and see if that makes you happier?

“Yeah, Sam Walsh was our first round pick. Not that he’s much good, mind you. Play round 1? Nah, he’ll be lucky to make our NEAFL team. Dud.”

**** me, some people seem to take a contrary view just for the sake of it.

Did you watch the NEAFL game against the NT?

As others have posted if people cannot be upbeat about young draftees, then we have little to keep us going given our last decade.

Bit unfair to compare to Berry based on the current sample size.

I believe you’ve misinterpreted the intent of my post, and overreacted somewhat.

For clarification, I was just supporting spotthedog1 comment that Bailey has been talked up on here.

Wasn’t taking a contrary view. Nor did I make a comment on Bailey.

I have no problem with people talking up players, or making critical comment on them.

Oh, and Sam Walsh isn’t my pony, more like TBD’s preference. I’ve been talking up Izak Rankine, feel free to neg on him all you want.

I would also say that about 2016's draftees as well. A lot of hopeium around here and I'll admit I am one of them. I had a look at 'Best 22 2021' thread the other day and it would be great to say that they all come on but we will just be starting to see these younger players being mid to low 20's which should be when we get a proper perspective. Interestingly enough when Looking at that thread I would have said we still need more mids but but if we finish last then Lukosius would have to be our pick you would imagine.

It's that time of year again...late April.

So who is good this year?

I’m waiting for that PP.

I'd legitimately rather we don't need it but feeling like by the end of this year the AFL will have no other course of action. Should have just given us band 1 for Rocky.

Better year to have it this year.

True, but I was more talking for the AFL. They obviously hate the idea of having to hand out first round priority picks, now they might have to face the situation of giving us one in a "super draft".

This is hypothetical, the fact is we blinked 1st. Fact is we will never know, what could have happened. It was a Mexician stand-off. Sometimes it just comes down to ,how far you are willing to push the envelope. I still believe that the club must set the price and stick to it. We can never bow down to intimidation or blackmail. Other clubs have treated us with contempt when it comes to players , played hard ball, if we are to show the other AFL clubs we are no longer the whipping boys in the comp, we must have the STRENGTH to STAND TOUGH and DEMAND RESPECT ✊ GO LIONS !!!!!!!!!!!!PS We can either value our self worth as a club or devalue it ,the choice is ours as a club.

I am also. I am sick and tired quite frankly of the propaganda campaign coming out of Gillon’s mouth. Queensland is in good shape. Gillon if you truly belive that s..., then you are more disillusional than I actually thought you were already. Wake up from your slumber sleeping beauty and stop being a puppet of Eddie, Brisbane lions need a helping hand. PP is now even more important / critical now than it was 12 months ago.

That's pretty much how I am seeing this season.

I would much rather we were winning and showing signs that we are beginning to climb off the foot of the ladder. But so far all this season has shown me is that we still lack class all over the field, and that we don't have an AFL quality best 22, and little depth in our squad. Our depth should be the kids we've drafted in the last 3 years, however we really are requiring more of them than a team really should be asking.

Yet a priority pick isn't going to help us immediately, because what we really need is half a dozen more A grade players to fill out our best 22. But failing some A grade free agents signing with the club next trade period, I'll take a beginning of first round priority pick.
