Spose I should finally read the trade/FA thread then...

Not really necessary

Spose I should finally read the trade/FA thread then...

It is only up 111 pages (at the time of typing) ... perhaps it would be a good idea to skip to near the end :)

I avoided the trade and the draft thread for a piece during the middle of the season as it seemed too far out to be relevant (and where I was trying to cut down on my Bigfooty time) ... when I went back to them I certainly didn't want to wade through pages of outdated content and started from about the third last page.

Option A for me is to throw a bucket loads of picks at Carlton for pick 1 and Sam Walsh. Honestly don't care if the cost seems steep. Brisbane 2018 1st + 2019 1st for Carlton 2018 1st (maybe Carltons 2019 2nd). I'd even include Beams if he was up to moving to Carlton. Might seem a steep price, but you look at the cost of a Kelly or any other top tier mid in their prime, it's typically multiple first round picks.

Option B is to trade our first round pick for a combination of Seb Ross and Brad Hill. Obviously would have to add other parts to get both players, but not keen on our 2018 second going out. I do want a quality kid from this draft that is not from our academy.

There's a good reason for that. They're a known quantity. Walsh looks safe but he might not be a star.

Would you go as far as to offer up Dayne Beams and our pick 4 for the Blues pick 1?

Would you play Tom in the backline after watching this??:D

I saw that at the time it was posted. He wasn't the only rebel to nail it.

If I recall correctly, it was blowing a massive gale at the time, and the boys were basically putting out across the face of goal and letting the wind do the rest for them.

Yep, knowing the local conditions always helps, the other player was Matty Lloyd [Swans Jake Lloyd's brother] another Horsham lad who's had a year a bit like Tom, missing the first half of the year with injury and only just starting to hit his straps when the season's over, outside mid/running back with elite endurance that has draftable traits also....another that went into the Championships for Vic Country off a limited prep.

In regards for the beams to Carlton trade they get a bloke with 2-3 years left who has just been selected in all aus team at the very least will help take some of the pressure off Cripps while hey also can pick a quality kid at 5 . We are left with choice of lions supporter walsh or beat touted player in lukoscious .

I'm hoping that Bailey Smith may still be available at pick 5. Could it be a possibility that GC select both SA boys in Lukosius and Rankine to minimize the go home factor? I think its a 99% chance that Walsh/Luk will go 1 and 2.
Carlton: Walsh
GC: Lukosius
GC: Rankine?
STK: M King
BRI: Smith
Maybe GC could keep the theme going with their second round picks and draft another SA boy or two. May be a good strategy.

I would give up a lot for Sam Walsh, but don't really see how we manage to get pick 1. Smith would be a great consolidation prize, or even better than that in some people's opinion.

Choo, Choo. ..I'm now on the Smith train.

Im hoping that but l reckon GC pick Smith. They do have a tendency to pick flashy players but you would think Rankine presents as a slight go home risk and Smith is probably what they need anyway - a pure midfielder.

With pick 5 I'm set for drafting Bailey Smith and if we had 1 it would have been Walsh. I'm not hopeful though as will have to wait out the trade period to see if we keep 5. If we do then he's the one to add to our young midfield. Jarrod Berry is the midfielder to build around not the two older blokes of Zorko and Beams (if he stays). I would be very happy if Wallis came to be that other big midfielder to help out Berry next year in the immediate term though.

Yeah, my thoughts as well mate. Smith seems like the safer option. Just holding onto the hope that GC may 'pair up' Rankine with Luk to keep them both up there. Who knows what GC are thinking mate, we all know what happened with their pick 2 last year ;)

How do u rate Tommy Berry mate? Possibility that we may select him with our second round pick?

It will be interesting to see how he tests after not playing a lot of football this year. Our recruiters would have a very good indication of his ability you would expect due to his brother but also because they start to track them a few years out from their draft year and he was Vic C captain 2 years ago for the under/16.

Others would now his ability better than mine as I've never seen him live and from his National champs you wouldn't want to base too much off that. There was some talk that he projects to be even better than Jarrod and funny enough I even heard this from a lady I work with whose husband is an ex-bears player.

For me, the romantic and because Jarrod this year has blown me away with his year (stats don't mean jack IMO) I would be very happy to grab him with our second (pick 25ish). However the curve ball is McFadyen and where someone bids for him.
