With Swann saying they are expecting a bid in the second round for McFadyen, is that implying that we won't be matching a bid if it is put forward in the first round?

Tom Berry for me with our 2nd would be fantastic, we have been known to select players who have hardly played in their draft year eg. Alex Witherden.

Although it will be a tough choice if one of Xavier Duursma, Jye Caldwell, Liam Stoker, Curtis Taylor are available as well, I'd expect them to be gone before the early/mid 20s selections though.

Except maybe Caldwell due to his injuries/lack of playing this year .... he could potentially slide to around then.

It's been a while, but you could have a look at what we said with Dawson if you want an example of that. We said something along the lines of "we don't rate him as a second rounder", though ultimately we matched a bid in the second.

You would think we would slightly over reach for an academy player if the bid came only a few picks before where we rated him and there was no obvious better player available.

On the other hand the Declan Watson(pick 34) pass looks like a really good decision in hindsight, that bid must have been a fair way before where we rated him as our next selection in that draft was pick 55 which we used on Jacob Allison.

Ridiculous how well Collingwood and North are doing from their academies.

Wouldn't jump the gun there with North, supposedly they're cooling on Tarryn Thomas, supposedly.
Really, haven't read that. Interesting. Assuming we're talking fans here and not the club themselves. Unless he really had a poor week training with North and playing in the VFL.

If Ben or Max King are available at our pick hope we take one
No thanks from me, I've said it numerous times but I'm not a fan of the 2 meter plus KPFs who dominate at junior level because of height and size advantages eg. Schache, Boyd, Patton, Wright. The only KPF I'd take is Jack Lukosius who plays in a Nick Reiwoldt style, take mids IMO.

What makes you want one of the Kings? Asking because you are one of the very few that does, nearly everyone is the exact opposite. And where do you see them fitting in to the team long term?

We have Hipwood who I believe is a star and could be the next Buddy but not a contested mark player. Watching us play this year we couldn't take a mark at Half Forward. I believe Max is the player we need. Lukousis is not available, Crows will work something out for him. Yeah Max King might be another young key forward and take 3-5 years to develop but we aren't playing finals for 3 so why not build a future around him and Hipwood with McStay as the 3rd tall. Mids are easy to get elsewhere. Just a thought

Caldwell is a typical Lions pick. I’ve got very high hopes for him and feel he’d be talked about as a potential top 5 if he hadn’t had an injury plauged season.

Hudson Garoni should be talked about more than he is. I suspect we’ll be looking at him.

Liam Stoker is currently seen as a mid to late first rounder by most PD, the type we need could be a late riser up the rankings.

Leading the way through the midfield for Sandringham, Liam Stocker was relentless with his attack on the ball. Stocker, who is in first round contention, impressed with 32 disposals, 21 contested possessions, five tackles, nine clearances, eight inside 50s and two score assists. Importantly, Stocker displayed a high work rate, the skills to hit up targets inside 50m, agility and impressive speed over the first five to 10 metres.

I love Garoni. Hard as teak. His contested marking is a highlight. Probably only his kicking to worry about but even that seems to have improved this year. Versatile enough to play forward or back at AFL level.

Don't total disagree with this apart from McStay being a third tall. Third talls need to make the most of their chances in front goals and I don't think McStay's goal kicking is good enough. King's knees do worry me a bit. A lot to play out with this trade and draft period for us.

I genuinely believe there are quite a lot of talented kids in the 10 to 20/25 range in this years draft, and would have no problem with Brisbane trading it's first round pick for two picks in the 10 to 15 range. Even if one of those picks is on traded to St Kilda for Seb Ross.
