Likely 22 will be 25 and 40 will be 43. Interestingly and from memory we gave 5, 25 and Crisp for Beams and got a late pick back.

We will need to find a way to get another pick back somehow if we give up our first 2, and freo have nothing to send back.

Gold Coast might have a second round pick after 30 available, will more than likely have two third round picks available for trade.

Have you an eye on anyone that you like in the 35-50 range through the year briz? I only look at the speculated top 25 or so.

Me to. Haven’t really looked at who the kids are beyond the top 30’ish.

Just figured we’d likely match a bid on McFadyen with our third. Hadn’t even considered who we might look at with our fourth, and figured Keidan Coleman would likely be a cat b rookie.

Also had a feeling we’d possibly only draft 3 or 4 kids at the National Draft. But wasn’t expecting to lose our top 1 or 2 picks in trades.

Think to have this trade go ahead we give up 5 and a player(Rich, Walker ?)or 5& 43.I think top two picks a very high price
Pick 5 is gone for sure if Neale comes to us but ideally it would be great to keep our 2nd and get a player in (Berry Jnr) before McFadyen is bid on.

What about pick 5 + our 2nd 2019 + ??

I certainly would prefer to use one of our picks next year for Neale. Most likely it would be our second rounder. Keeps us in the top 30 this year. Though I am not sure about the academy kids that will be available in next years draft and if they are expecting early bids at this stage

Surely we wouldn't use next years first roundpick. We still might be lowish on the ladder. Besides:
2017 - Charlie Cameron
2018 - Neale
2019 - ??

That's what I've been thinking. Would be nice to have that pick to grab a slider. Or Tom Berry. Or Jordan Clark or similar, if we are after a runner out of the back line.

Much prefer 5 + future pick (probably 2nd Round) than 5 + sacrificing a current player.

We've worked hard to instill a "want to be here" culture/vibe in the playing group. Just don't want any of our valued players (especially the young guns) to get any mixed messages.

Why do we need to find another pick? We have 40 that'll nearly get McFadyen, unless we trade Bell/Bewick to Carlton for say there for pick 40ish

What? Carlton aren't that dumb.

From discussions on the draft board, Will Martin is currently viewed as our top prospect, and has been compared to SA's captain Luke Valente, who currently is viewed as an early to mid second round pick in this years draft.

Tom Wischnat had a very good U16's carnival last year, and was amongst QLD's top performers.

Scouting notes from AFL Draft Central.
QLD U17 v Vic Country U17 Futures Game: August 13.

Will Martyn 29/03/2001 183cm 73kg Aspley
Martyn was arguably his side’s best in an industrious midfield shift. While he was fumbly early on,o the Brisbane Academy member continued to crash in and win the ball out of the stoppages through brute force. Martyn’s kicking improved alongside his handling as the game progressed, with some good balls inside 50 providing scoring opportunities. His final term was particularly impressive, as he stood courageously under a loopy ball to take a mark and slot his first goal, backing it up shortly after with a second set shot major to put his side in front, with an early celebration to boot.

Tom Jeffrey 17/06/2001 186cm 80kg Morningside
Jeffrey was impactful with his strong marking ability and long kicking being used to effect all over the ground. He had a lovely kick inside 50 in the 2nd quarter and got involved in a nice passage of play in the last quarter showing both his good marking and kicking ability.

Gracen Sproule 31/01/2001 176cm 79kg Wilston Grange
Sproule played as a forward and he showed great movement and skill throughout the day. His best quarter came in the second when he kicked a nice long goal from beyond 50. What stood out from Sproule was his clean takes on the run and clean use by hand and his ability to move through traffic.

Thomas Wischnat 1/10/2001 189cm 97kg Maroochydore
Wischnat was a permanent forward often giving good leads but wasn’t always rewarded. He kicked a nice snap goal in the first quarter and he took a nice lead up mark in the 2nd although he missed the set shot. Wischnat could have done more at ground level but also could have hit the scoreboard harder with better supply from teammates.

Samson Ryan 9/12/2000 203cm 84kg Western Magpies
The 203cm Ryan not only use his height to his advantage in the ruck, but also managed to keep involved all over the ground working into defence to intercept and also resting forward, providing a good option despite spraying many of his opportunities at goal. What stood out with Ryan was his smarts around the ground for a ruckman with some nice visions by hand and even a solid opposite foot kick in the last quarter.

So 12 months out, it looks like we have a small forward, a third tall forward, two mids and a ruck to follow through next year, when our academy will be part of the new TAC cup competition, as well as the Allies team at the U18 Champs.

Samson is pretty decent. Not gonna lie, I’m probably just happy I actually recognise a player now.

Don't forget Tozer who is currently out injured but is highly rated.

Why do we need to find another pick? We have 40 that'll nearly get McFadyen, unless we trade Bell/Bewick to Carlton for say there for pick 40ish
Two reason, firstly I'm not confident that pick around 40 will be close to enough points for McFadyen and could leave us with a large deficit for next year. Secondly, we are still rebuilding, we need to keep injecting young talent. I was dead against trading pick 1, until someone like Neale was mentioned, but I think an off-season of Neale, McFadyen, someone, Coleman just lacks that young player to make an impact given McFadyen and the others will all be projects.

Pick 40 would be enough to completely pay for matching at pick 31 (nearly enough for 30). 40+58 pays for up to 24. And unless he's bid in the first round (which would be a considerable reach that we'd be unlikely to match) any difference in matcing a second-round bid still only comes off our future second rounder, not our first.

Have you looked at what picks we currently have and what points they worth, and what we can match?

As the current draft order stands, our third and fourth round picks can match a bid from pick 24 and back.

Obviously there’s compo and priority picks to add in to the equation yet.

But I’ll be genuinely surprised if McFadyen receives at top 30 bid.

And if we need to, third round picks aren’t that hard to trade for.

Right now Gold Coast has two 1st round picks, two 2nd round picks, and two 3rd round picks. Their ceo has said they plan on taking 6 top 30 picks to the draft. So add in their compo pick for Lynch leaving and their Priority Pick they’ll likely receive. Can’t remember, but another one of their experienced players is supposed to have requested a trade as well, so that’s another 2nd or 3rd round they might receive.

So Suns will likely have 3 second or third round picks to trade out.

Yes I have .... which is why I said "but I think an off-season of Neale, McFadyen, someone, Coleman just lacks that young player to make an impact given McFadyen and the others will all be projects." We end up with Neale/pick 5, McFadyen potentially taking our 2nd and 3rd (at least pushing it back) and some late picks which we all know are pot shots at that point. Given the way recruiters give themselves wet dreams over the Patrick Cripps build mids, I can see him going in the early 20's range.
