If McCarthy was dumb his manager was dumber.
Or crazy theory but perhaps his mental health issues were real and he needed to get back to Perth and be closer to family/friends and his support network.

That we just expect 17/18 year old kids to move across the country and have no issues is truly laughable. Some have no issues, some thrive and some don't cope as well.

I wonder if your friend/family member was in a similar situation you'd show more empathy/compassion.

Brett you know nothing about my friends and family's experience with mental health or my empathy ability, so I'll let that one go through the keeper. However my opinion is that his manager did not do him any favors and managed him and the situation terribly badly.

I think the way it played out lent credence to this. McCarthy didn't have an issue returning to GWS after the trade period. IIRC he wasn't even particularly vocal demanding (as opposed to requesting) a trade in the trade period unlike others like Mitch Clark or Beams. He came back and started pre-season. It was only part way through that pre-season that he returned home and sat out the year. If it was a ploy or managerial interference or stupidity or sooking why would he bother coming back at all? I read that as him trying to give it a go, counter to the narrative being pushed.

Well you just called a young guy dumb for having pretty well reported mental health issues so maybe it's only complete strangers you have no compassion for.

There's no reason or justification to get into a tit-for-tat bs here suffice to clarify I questioned the dumbness and called out his manager, not the player.
All good.

IMHO draft picks are no certainty to get any club up the ladder by themselves.Sydney Hawthorn and Geelong do not bottom out and do not have high draft picks. If we pay a little overs for solid gold talent so what. The only thing that will move us up is targeting of great players coupled with judicious drafting.

And now they are treading water in no man's land. Hawks bottomed out in the '00's and got players like Hodge Buddy and Roughy as a result.

I think understandably everyone is going a bit stir crazy waiting for the trade and draft action to begin. Hopefully then we can all focus on the ball rather than the man. Anyway, who do we take with pick 42?

Stir crazy for the trade period?

I see you’ve bought into the AFL’s manufactured BS.
You are so strange on here you scare me.

Dylan brings balance to the conversation - like John Lennon to a McCartney song

M- It's getting better all the time

L- It couldn't get no worse
So, Dylan is the Lennon of BF.
Wonder who is Ringo?

Hardly call finishing in top 4 no mans land. With an ounce of luck they could have beaten Melbourne. We fell of a cliff after our 3 peat.Hawthorn not so much.

And I reckon we'd have beaten WC, or gone very close [OK, they were minus a couple of goodun's] if it wasn't for their indigenous players who were simply brilliant on the day.

I cannot believe that Dylan mentioned trading 2 firsts for Ollie Wines and no one called him out for it..

Give me Neale over Wines 10 times out of 10. Maybe Dylan doesn’t see as much as I do living in Adelaide but if you want a first class butcher with a big body that just bombs it away at all times Wines is your man.. If Wines is worth 2 1sts than we have a lot of players on our list worth more than 2 1sts..

Shocking call Dylan you obviously haven’t watched enough and probably think that Petracca is worth 2 early firsts also based on hype alone..

95% of the time a draft pick is like a new car.. As soon as the selection happens and a name is associated with that pick the value drops..

Early picks especially.. usually 7 out of the top 10 wouldn’t recoupe their initial draft slot value 2 years later (and I may be conservative here)
