if you look at the magpies GF side Pendles, Sidebottom, Treloar, Adams, DeGoey, Thomas, Sier, Varcoe, Phillips, Stepheson, Hoskin_elliot etc
not sure how many of those fit our age bracket.
Blair, Brown, Appleby and Reid where emergencies

Sier fits best
Stepheson love will not happen :)
Same DeGoey.
The rest getting to old from 21-23 bracket

Bar him being jarrods brother has there ever been anything linking us with thomas besides bigfooty talk? Don't recall ever seeing anything approaching genuine interest from us.
Before injured played a few good games. if your out from July you can get lost in the media coming up to draft.

Edit back from May people had him around 19

Not that I am aware. Pretty much appears to be BigFooty driven.

Thomas has talent. He's just spent much of the last two seasons injured, and they've mostly been contact injuries because of how hard he Tom plays, and not soft tissue or joint injuries where his body breaks down.

I watched two TAC cup games of Tom's last year and this year online, where Tom was starting at centre bounces, and he often won the ball first at the bounce and got it out to team mates or kicked forward. He's got genuine pace and knows how to use it. It's just that he hasn't been able to string a consistent stretch of games together for fans to see and rate his game.

It genuinely confounds me how some draft watchers rate Jye Caldwell so high but not Tom Berry, when neither has been able to put together a consistent year together on the field.

* If, for what ever reason the Lachie Neale trade didn't go through, and...
* if, for what ever reason Dayne Beams left...

Bailey Smith would be top of my list for mids to draft at pick 5, and with a late teens or early twenties pick, I'd definitely take Tom Berry. If we could manufacture another pick in the low teens, then I would genuinely consider either Jye Caldwell or Xavier Duursma.

Then I would look at our young developing midfield depth and think, job done, we've practically loaded up our midfield for the next decade, and we can focus on other areas of the ground that needs strengthening.

It also doesn't hurt that we might have a decent academy crop next year to further strengthen our midfield and medium forward depth.

McFadyen, Berry and Williams would be a decent haul with all our mid draft picks.
Who is Williams? only Williams that I can think of off the top of my head is ruck/kpf Bailey Williams from the Stingrays.

And that has what relevance to my post?

Does Mitch Grigg come into any of our calculations after missing out on Wallis and the possibility of Beama leaving. Right age bracket, big body mid. I understand he is not athletically gifted but you would think he could do a body of work and give some depth and assistance to Bez and co.

Bailey Williams is widely regarded as the next best tall in the draft after the top prospects inside the top 10. Another I'm interested to see where he goes. If I had to guess with absolutely no knowledge whatsoever, I would think he should be a top 25 pick.

Noble's mentioned that Berry has been in his ear about that.

This part makes a lot of sense to me since Caldwell had already put together 2 great seasons of APS and TAC cup footy before his injuries this year, and he also has so many more AFL traits. Even in the games he did play he showed he was a class above, such as 20 odd touches in 50% game time in his first game back from his hamstring. Its not just a coincidence that recruiters rate these blokes differently, and I feel like, having not watched Berry, the love for him here is probably the only place where he is rated so highly. Obviously we've seen what his brother is capable and that helps, but from the roar deal I get the feeling even our recruiters don't rate him that highly, and that he could miss out on the national draft.

Tom Berry is rated pretty highly by those who watch the Rebels every week. A couple who post on BF regularly.

He was captain of the Vic Country U16 team two years ago, ahead of Sam Walsh who captained the Vic Country U18 team this year. It's just that injuries have ruined both Berry's bottom age and top age TAC cup seasons. And he's played in a pretty weak Rebels team the past two years.

I'm definitely not saying I know better than professional recruiters. As I have mentioned already, I have not seen any of Caldwells games, so I can't compare the two players. But what little I have seen of Tom Berry, I would have thought if fit, he should be rated in the top 20 odd kids going in to this years draft. I've mentioned it before, but his game stye reminds me of Clayton Oliver, just without the same frame at this point.

Its hard in rep games with guys often played out of position.

I thought Berry showed plenty. If we keep 32 and get him there, bargain.

Oh come on, stop it, now me want very much, very, very, much.

Berry will go later in the draft maybe even rookie. Noble has stated speed and both boys have it. Did a bit of looking after his comments and Will Hamill from the Stingrays was a name I came across as that rebounding defender as a late possibility, maybe.

Poor kid. If we do draft him he’ll never be able to live up to the hype some here have built up around him.

Yeah that's all fair. It's also worth remembering Caldwell was co captain of vic country this year with walsh, and was named vic country's best in that u16 champs. I just feel like there must be a large weakness in berrys game which makes him not rated highly by some recruiters and by vic country this year as well despite getting a lot of the footy

It can also be politics, coaches favs. You need to look outside of just vic country games.

Recently, i came across half a rep squad being made up from a team that finished 5th. Their coach was one of the rep squad coaches. Vic country etc is a lot more professional, but we are still dealing with people.

Yeah that's interesting, so we reckon Berry might have being played in a back pocket in the national champs because he out of favour? It's just that recruiters also look quite extensively outside of vic country games as well and from that it doesn't seem he's rated in the top bracket or anywhere near it despite that

Actually he played a fair bit of mid and went well when he did.

I was generalising in my comments around rep teams, but many guys playing rep footy are playing mid for their club, so often get played out of position.

If he isnt rated in the top bracket be pleased. If we can get him later we will be very happy.

What about Maguire? from one of the Sydney NEAFL teams. Won the rising star award. Could be a late draft or rookie pick.
You mean Mitch Maguire from Canberra, I think. Had a really good finals campaign, 45 disposals v Syd uni. Only 20 so could get a chance somewhere, though NEAFL still rated behind other state leagues.

Yeo yhats him. Is a smaller player at 175cm which may have hindered him come draft day. Certainly worth a look especially come rookie draft. Would be on GWS radar (former academy player) and Sydney you would think.
