Is this really a problem for us? I don't even think we need to look at trading late picks. The way I see it at least ten or so of those picks ahead of our 3rd round pick are going to be eaten up matching academy bids. Means our 3rd round pick could move up significantly. If our 56 gets moved up to 46 after bids then we could use it to match bids for McFadyen from 35 onwards without needing to trade in anything at all. If we only have the three spaces and intend to draft McFadyen with one of them it means there's really no point hanging on to both 30 and 35 unless we're anticipating early bids for McFadyen.

A bid before pick 7 means they'll need to use their first 3 picks at least but again, haven't really thought about where bids will come, just that a lot of those 15 picks would be absorbed.

No idea. If we can him or Bastinac definitely a candidate but I don't know if yesterday was our last chance to delist a player to then re-draft as a rookie.

Scott - North (Maybe)

Bulldogs first pick is 27 which is around the mark of where he might be bid on.

With North, Sydney and Pies trading out of the first and early second round, that sort of disincentivises teams bidding early on their kids.

If it takes two picks to match each bid, except for West, then 56 only moves up 5 spots.

It might take 3 picks for Sydney to match a bid on Blakey, but the 3rd pick can take a hit of about ~250 points, and the residual points still generate a new pick before 56.

I’m still happy to get Berry considering how he was still highly rated near the start of the year. I’m not sure about picking up and father/son players. I have a feeling they would just be picked on their name.

If we want to be a club with continued success (like Sydney), then we definitely need to consistently produce Senior list talent from the rookie list.

I think you'll find that they're wanting more outside run with their decision making. The also have a ridiculous salary cap pressure so frankly who knows what's going on down there.

Unfortunatley nothing I've seen from Jake Bradshaw would suggets he is AFL standard. Rendell would be closer and even he isn't a likely rookie choice for us.

Goodo, thanks very much for clarification. I was fairly confused with who was where on what.

We still have space to pick up good talent in the draft and rookie draft. I think it has us where a balanced team should be now. Very good seniors, quality mid aged best and depth, 2-4yr players that are leading, contributing and developing. And the right amt of youth and talent to be drafted that unless exceptional, can now take their time to be coached and grow into their game. Not rushed to perform. Things can roll on nicely now and if the young ones commit and be patient, they will all get their chance for success over next 5yrs plus.

Some of the kids were paid well over market value to stop them leaving apparently.

I sincerely doubt they are under any form of cap constraints anymore. They certainly did overpay some young players much like we did a few years back, but they also had guys like Lynch and May taking up a big chunk of money.

There is no chance cap space is the reason they let Lyons go.
