North are going to cherry pick that Mariners team. There are 5 or 6 that could/should be drafted.

They only get those of Aboriginal/overseas parents.

No it is opening a pathway to AFL and they accept all sorts into their academy.

BTW overseas in Tassie means the mainland.

Google next gen academy north Melbourne tasmania. They take all. It is effectively a zone.

No, they can sign up any they want but they only get draft concessions on the minorities as mentioned, unless you can dig up something that says otherwise. It's like us and GC having Himmelberg and Lambert and Weller in our academies respectively - we weren't able to take them because of the residency requirements, but we still signed them up.

Then why would any club bother. It is happening.

There is talk of turning the mariners into a fully fledged North Academy.

They will take Thomas and try for others. The women is a different scenario again with the stated goal of having 50% tassie player's on their aflw list, they will get first call.

A poster on KM's draft thread stated he has a very good source that if we were to finish 17th or other that we are very open to trading that pick. Elite top end and we just trade it away like that. Please Noble don't be so stupid.

I asked KM today about his opinion of Lukosius, he said he's the best player (any position) that he has seen come through the system in the 10 years he has been following it. I know a few on here aren't big fans of KM, it's not only him though, virtually every pundit I have heard or read has Lukosius as a prodigious talent, too good to pass on.

Maybe that's why the rumor is 17th or better we would trade as we are certain Lukosius would go 1.

They have claim over the ones that count
No, they don't.

As dlanod explained, they have access to kids from Aboriginal decent or multicultural kids. They do not have access to every kid.

This is a list of Norths 2018 Tasmanian NGA kids.
Tarryn Trindall (Thomas)
Matthew McGuinness
Rhyan Mansell

First name that jumps out to me is Tasmania's captain midfielder Chayce Jones. Talked about as likely first round draft pick, has been in the AFL academy this year and last year, pretty sure he has played in Tasmania's U18 side along side Tarryn Thomas since he was 16 (same as Thomas).

Don't see any of Tassie's other better performers in Norths academy either, half back Lachlan Gadomski, ruck Timothy Auckland, outside mid Fraser Turner, or small forward Blair Rubock.

The real issue here is that the top end of this draft are very very good and Lukosius is the cherry at the top so the notion of trading 'this' year's first rounder is absolutely crazy.

Who you liking if we end up with pick 2 or 3 and miss out on Lukosius?

So you’re completely ruling it out? There is no trade that you’d accept?

Every trade pick is available every year at the right price. No need to get worked up.

I still think that the midfield needs to be built so if that's Walsh or Bailey Smith or another then so be it. I'm not on Rankine as he is flashy and we need substance.

An absolute young (23-25) A grade star or a move back for 2 in the first round similar to 2016. It would be a mistake to move away from their 3 draft focus at this moment in time. I still think that you get as much quality as we can now and then start to trade with those first rounders as we rise.

Lol, if you want to get caught up in rumours from absolute nobodies from the drafts board, go ahead, but please don't drag that shit in here!

Like jackess said, every pick from every club is available for the right price, so any draft board muppett with "a source" can make up claims like that and never have to answer for it. "Oh they were totally looking to trade but they couldn't get anyone to go there".

If we can get something of equal or better value to Lukosius, Walsh, Rankine etc then we might look at it, but I don't see any elite talent already in the system lining up to come here, so it's probably 98 percent likely we take those picks to the draft or trade them for a package of multiple picks.

Regardless, people shouldn't count their Lukosiuses before they hatch. A lot of tantalising talent at the top end to cater to different needs. Our recruiters will weigh up all of the data and information (about 30 percent of which we are privy to) and make the call that suits our circumstances.

P.S. I love you Sam Walsh.

Which also means that other clubs will value top-end draft picks higher and a player who you would demand more than pick 2 for in 2016/17 becomes available for just that price.

Or the option of doing a 2+change for 3+16 like we did a couple years back to nab the Cluggberry combo.

I thought that is what this thread is all about, 2018 draft thread is by nature a highly speculative and rumor filled thread.

Aren't we all nobodies on BF TBD?:)

Yeah but people on the drafts board "with sources" are a very special type of nobody. Trust me, I have to moderate them. You won't find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy this side of the Mos Eisley space port.

Their fourth hand speculation becomes fifth hand by the time it gets to the Brisbane board and people get disproportionately upset and stressed about it all.

Then people start preemptively taking shots at our club based on the delusion of a guy on BigFooty who is a stockboy at Rebel Sport who overheard whispers in the lunchroom from one of the cashiers up front who is dating a girl whose best friend is the cousin of a guy who is two grades below the sister of a guy who traded Pokemon cards with the brother of a guy who is an outside chance to be a late rookie selection in next year's draft.

Does Walsh have the upside to be worth a top 3 pick? I question whether we can get a similar product (not as good) with our second pick and take a punt on Rankine or even Blakey or Thomas, players with talent not usually found outside the top 10, with our first pick.

Had to google Mos Eisley spaceport, never watched any of Star Wars.

Skip 1, 2, 3 then watch 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 and Rogue One (which is goodish, but not stellar).

Get to work and I will then recommend some extended universe novels for you ;)

Might do it one day, I have got plenty of time on my hands, I suppose I could binge watch it in a couple of days.
