From the stuff I have read and the vision I have seen albeit small I like Berry over McFadyen. My comment was more about getting another open draft player in before having to match an academy bid, could be Berry but another option would be good as well. A couple of pundits on the DT&FA board have Thomas Berry rated pretty highly (around the 20 mark) and have been dumbfounded as to why he has been played out of position at the championships.
I reckon he is rated that highly because of his last name. That's not such a bad thing as he might be around our third.
Fair enough. It would be good to get McFadyen later as you say. My gut feeling is that there'll be some pretty elite talent around at the beginning of the 2nd round, which is great for us.

Given this is his first pre season due to cricket he will be a steal in the second round.
Have learnt this year (finally) that recruiters look for glimpses and McFayden did show this but he is a long way off it and can see him go later in the draft 4-5round back even possible rookie and will take 3/4 pre-seasons.

I reckon there will be a very good mid type around our second pick and I think that there a few of these types. Albeit brief I did like the look of Jye Caldwel.

One of the more notable long term phantom drafters on the DT&FA board says that "Izak Rankine is head shoulders above Cam Rayner and would have won the rising star this year as a 17 year old".

I'm with you in this one. Over on the preview thread, there are discussions about when the last time we had a 100+ point victory was, as though we're in with a chance for one this week. I might be a little more skeptical. To be honest, I don't like the leadup to this. We haven't played well after a win in a long time and haven't played well against lower opposition all year.

Carlton have had poor results, but really, in hindsight, they didn't have an easy draw early in the year. But they pushed the Tigers, Pies and Eagles, and weren't far off against the Power last week. They had a big loss early against the Roos, which at the time looked laughable, but in hindsight looks a lot more understandable. They've had a few lapses this year, sure, but they've also put together some good passages.

I have the Blues in with a decent chance for wins against Lions, Saints, Suns, Dockers, and Dogs. Plus, if the last round is against an injury-ravaged and eliminated Crows, and the Blues need to win to avoid the spoon, I wouldn't be betting against them. Their only other games are the Hawks and Giants, neither of whom have been setting the world on fire. Really, you wouldn't say that they have a single game left against a premiership contender. I'm not saying they're in finals contention, but I could easily see them stealing another 3 wins out of that pile.

That's fair I guess. I suppose the thing for me is regardless of how you look at their draw, they play in such a boring defensive way I don't really rate them. It's three years in to the Bolton run as coach and while they won a few more games last year, they still are stuck with the same game plan which won't ever generate enough scoring opportunities to win consistently.

Its always worth remembering too that Victorian teams never travel - they've played interstate 3 times this year (one in Tas against north and against adelaide and sydney) and lost by an average of 57 points and only have another 3 more all year. We've already played interstate 6 times.

Poor old Collingwood with an NGA selection at 9 and a father son at 20.
I'd say they'l be delighted to get to replenish their stock with high end talent. Bids won't come high, as evidenced over the last couple of drafts for F/S and academy picks.

I did the ladder predictor and had us finishing 16th a game below the Saints. I don't think the Suns will win another game. I tipped Carlton to beat the Suns and no other games and we beat the Suns and Carlton. We could jump the Saints if we win another upset.
We r definitely a chance against the Hawks

Adel currently have 3 picks in the top 19 (8, 12 & 19) - wouldn't be surprised if they packaged them up for a high pick.
Although those picks could get them Rozee & Hatley, they would be desperate to get one if not both of Lukosius & Rankine.
However, I would be very hesitant to trade pick 2 (as it stands) for picks 8 & 12.
As it stands with picks 2 and 20 we could get one of Walsh, Rankine and Lukosius with our first and one of Taylor, Collier-Dawson and Berry with our second.
GC could be in a position to do the pick 2/3 for 8 and 12, especially if they get a high pick for Lynch.
You would think that Adel would only trade up with us, Carl or GC (top 3 pick). Doubt Lions and Blues would go with picks 1/2/3 for 8 and 12, especially after recent trade dealings.

Dodongo looks at another possibility should we lose Beams. This only works if Beams is traded back to Victoria.

We make Adelaide pay overs for pick 2. Something involving 8-12-19. We then make a trade for pick 3. 8 and the pick for Beams. (lowest between 12 and that) We get our man at 3, A decent guy at 12 or the pick for beams, and Berry at 19. Still have pick 20 too.

Well Allison is taller, younger, better at Jackals and a lot more not-dead so that is a good start ... there is the small detail of her gender however...

I'd love to watch The West Wing with ViceRegal, for several reasons.

Maybe he is just a Connor Junior?

I'd bet Dodongo's right nut that Taylor and RCD will be long gone before our second round pick.

I also expect the the second round to start some where around pick 21 to 23+ depending on how many first round and end of first round compensation picks get handed out from the trade period, plus seeing how many NGA, Northern Academy and FS bids come in.

I've said it every year, and this year I see it as more important. Clubs should be bidding on other clubs NGA, Academy and FS kids as early as possible, where they know the "parent" club will match, especially if it denies the "parent" club from double dipping.

Clubs really need to look at increasing the player pool available to them at their second or third pick, especially if they are a club with both early and late first round picks or finales team that has traded in an early second round pick. The best way to do this is bid on other clubs NGA, Academy or FS kids before the "parent" club first or second round pick.

Make sure Sydney have to match a bid on Nick Blakey before their first pick.

Make sure North have to match a bid on Tarryn Thomas before their first pick.

Make sure Collingwood have to match a bid on Isaac Qyanor before their first round pick, and match a bid on Will Kelly before their second pick.

Make sure the Bulldogs have to burn their 2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks on Rhylee West and Buku Khamis.

Make sure Gold Coast have to use one of their second round picks matching a bid on Bailey Scott.

It could make the difference between a kid like Chayce Jones or Jye Caldwell or Xavier Duursma possibly being available at our second pick.

There are more kids who look to be late second and third round picks, including McFadyen, who should be bid on.
