Anyone know how our other FS kids - Voss, Bradshaw, Rendell - are looking? Draftable/rookie types, or not up to it?
Checkout the father/son thread. Voss playing NEAFL for Lions this weekend. Has put in some promising performances of late for Sturt Reserves in the SANFL apparently, having been elevated from their U18's. Bradshaw plays for the Murray Bushrangers in the TAC Cup and I think is injured at present. Rendell played for Vic Metro in the championships and by reports did OK without being oustanding. Is 198cm and has grown considerably the last year so no doubt has plenty of room for development. Lachie Harris playing this weekend for VAFA U19's v Vic Country. Voss probably the most likely for a rookie spot at this stage.

With McFadyen, I would not be getting my hopes up him lasting until the third round or even late second round. I could see him moving into the top 15 picks with a good second half to the season, the kid looks very good.

That's a good thing. If he's in the 15 best in this years draft and we get him for a second rounder that'd be excellent.

If he gets through to a later round because the recruiters don't rate him that would be worse.

Yeah I'd much prefer McFadyen storms into top 15 calculations and we get a guaranteed gun rather than him fade into obscurity a little bit and we get him for a 4th rounder. And talk of playing him in the back pocket in the reserves to shield him from opposition bids is silly(Although I think these comments are tongue in cheek), it'd only stall his development if anything.

Apart from the fact it would mean he's more likely to actually be a decent footballer as opposed to the recruiters just not rating him.
I'm sure he'll be the same footballer irrespective of where he is taken in the draft (if in fact at all); just that I'd rather pay less...obviously.

If we're paying less that'll most likely mean he's not very good. If we end up paying more then it will be an indication that he's a decent prospect.

He gets drafted in the 4th round and my initial thought will be that he's gone in the next 3-4 years not that he was a bargain.

Well that is obvious, it is just as obvious as the other posters suggesting that they'd rather he be viewed by most recruiters as a very good talent. (More likely to be true)

Harris Andrews was taken at a pick in the 60's but I doubt you'd think he's not very good whereas Ben Keays was taken in the mid to early 20's if I'm not mistaken and the jury is still out as to how decent a prospect Ben is.

If we did take McFadyen, I'd rather we take him as late as possible (dependent of course if there is a forthcoming bid), which I am sure most would.

How did I know you would bring up those 2.

Which would you rather; next year we have somebody most recruiters think is worth a top 15 pick or a pick around 50?

I'd like to take McFayden at the end of the draft as well but I'd rather that he was judged a top 15 pick and we take him with our second rounder.

Andrews was bid on a fair bit earlier than what he cost us, pick 34 under the old system.

Ideally with McFayden he's rated just after one of our picks not just prior, maximum value for us is getting another pick in before matching.

Matching a bid at pick 15 would see us getting a ~5 pick upgrade, matching a bid at 22 would see us upgrading to that pick with from picks in 40s and 50s.

There's always the possibility of upgrading to a pick just prior (late first rounder), but that would cost a prettt decent premium you'd imagine

The way I see it, it really doesn’t matter if you are a pick 15 or a pick 50.
Once you are in an AFL system, if you are showing positive signs of growth and willing to work hard you will be picked for the AFL team.
Many good players have come from a long way back in the draft. (Dayne Beams, Dayne Swan, Rocky the list goes on and on and on.

I'm not sure about the top 15 talk with McFadyen. There are a lot of decent mids in the top 20 discussion. Two, who are also big body mids in Riley Collier-Dawkins and Jackson Hately. It's true a lot of the mids are smaller, with most in that 180cm to 186cm range, but a few of them are genuine in and under, contested mids.

Thanks muchly, WLF. Hope some of them get at least rookied; based on their fathers' abilities, you'd think there might be some talent to emerge maybe a little later.

Yeah seems unlikely at this stage. From 25 seems more likely. I’m looking forward to CJ, Coleman Matthews& Voss playing in the twos to see what impact they have. For what it’s worth Tomkinson went ok in the champs but really struggled in th twos last week. Payne & Ballenden were decent last year, so how they all go will be some guide.

Hes probably sitting in that 21 to 30 range at the moment. Made u18 all australian side on the interchange, wasnt in the most recent top 20 list. Each club will have their academy or nga kid they will be keen on and will be looking at later in the draft to get them, except swans with blakey, north with thomas and pies with quaynor n will kelly (FATHER/SON). They may need to go early to get thiers. Would we match if hes bid on early (2nd rnd), i dont know, i guess that depends on what talent is still available or what our needs are. He could easily say in interviews with recruiters that he wants to stay in bris close to family and be seen as a go home risk. I have no doubt we would want him and he could be confident the club will, 4th round pick for me.
