Sorry mate, when you combine a number of states together to make a team, they are still second division.

Silly logic. That's like saying Victoria vs The All-stars from a few years back was Vic vs the second division.

Which would you rather; next year we have somebody most recruiters think is worth a top 15 pick or a pick around 50?
By that logic schache should have been a home run.

There are many reasons why players ranked higher then others or lower for that matter, however the one intangible that can't be determined by a recruiter, coach or psychologist is a players self-drive or willingness to succeed at a high level. All clubs will ultimately try to determine a players mental strength and resolve, but in the end since the beginning of the draft there have been massive wins for clubs and massive failures.
In saying that your more likely to get a long term player earlier in the draft then later, however if you live by the premise that you will only get quality from the first couple rounds of the draft, then it seem hard to reason why any club would bother drafting an 18 or 19 year old to its senior list beyond the 2nd round ( except to just fill a list spot) and the rookie draft would make even less sense, but we all know that you can and will continue to find quality deep in the draft and I think that was the point Dlions was making. Being rated at pick 15 and sliding to pick 70 or being rated at pick 20 and jumping upto pick 10 doesn't change player, only the perceived potential of said player and history has shown often perceived potential means nothing until it is realized.

It is not silly logic, all the other states have their own competition BEFORE the division 1 championships.

How about when they stop playing a division 2 champs, I will stop calling them division two?

we got some special posters on this board. Just ignore, they will try to argue over anything. :)

Nailed it. Hence why I’d like him to be rated as worth a pick earlier in the draft.

Might be obvious but does the fact that Casey Voss is up here playing for us in the NEAFL indicate we're considering him for at least a rookie spot? Or is that reading a bit too much into it?

Certainly interested in seeing what he’s got.

Why create hierarchies when they don’t exist? Smacks of all that is deplorable about the AFL.

The main reason is so you have some fair competition and it does make sense. I do like the invention of the Allies as a concept. Gets to show the best talent from the smaller AFL states against the best opposition. I guess that is also why they split Vic into two regions.

It’s hardly an invention!

Will be very interesting to see what Carlton do with pick 1 dunstall ans brown were saying today that they have gaping holes all over their list and they really need some support for Cripps And Curnow . Weitering looks a shadow of the player he is and not sure you have Curnow McKay and lukoscious all in same forward line . I also think we will end up higher then the saints so would leave us pick 5 presuming Gold Coast get compo pick .

Pick 1 Carlton -lukoscious
Pick 2Gold Coast - Walsh
Pick 3 ??? Smith /1 of king twins
Pick 4 saints - reckon 1 of kings
Pick 5 - Brisbane - I’d be tAking rankine .

Imagine the pace of rankine and Cameron on the wings in years to come.

yeah you easily could. Let both Curnow and Lukosious get on their bikes up on the wings and through the centre and then push back while McKay plays out of the goal square. Same would go for us and swap Curnow for Hippy and McKay for McStay. Both forward lines would be a headache to defend and get a working structure against.

So you are saying one is good one is bad. This is not how averages work !

I'm just saying it's a lottery - most of the talk is just about who goes before who - like some kind of casino game.

I'd say that in 100% of drafts the order that players are taken in is not the same (or even roughly similar) to how the players end up performing in the AFL.

I don't think a pick in the top 10 is more likely to succeed than a pick in the 30s for example.
