Walsh and his family/management could have easily said to the photographers "yeah I'm a Brisbane fan but it's probably best in my draft year that we don't pose in front of my Lions shrine".

But he didn't. He's sending us a message. We'd have to think very carefully before ignoring it.

If he makes it through to us.
If we win some games that is.

Probably me. Certain clubs back in late 2012, felt he was looking like a top 3-5 selection. Before injuries struck.

Wasn't he talked about pretty seriously as an option for the clubs that had those mini draft picks?

Something is telling me that Rankine is going to not have the draft year that we thought. Had a quiet SA trials supposedly and a suspension and a small rumour that his interviews with Vic based managers weren't the greatest either. I'm a bit suspect on D.Fogarty's year last year as well. Going in ranked number one by most and his national champs were borderline terrible for someone of his talent. Could it be a new way to manipulate the draft? Possibly and I wouldn't put anything passed them honestly.
Yeah, I wasn’t going to be the first person to mention this.

I wonder if Wash’s Geelong Falcons team mate McHenry would be keen on a move north. Would suit with his outside run as a hbf.

Curious what you saw in him at that stage? Based on his history with us he’ll be a good player but doesn’t seem to have that X factor that most top 3-5 players have.

Thinking you're reading way too much into it.

Wasn't necessarily me rating him in that range, but clubs did at the time. Was pretty hard not to be impressed by him in the Colts back in 2012. Started 2013 of with a 36 disposal, 2 goal effort before injury stuck. He's got the right attributes to be one of our best.

Walsh captain tomorrow.
Captain tomorrow is he one of The Avengers?

Edit: Why expose his identity? No need for a superhero suit now.

Seems pretty easy to me if Walsh is in the conversation for our pick (whatever that is) the lions shrine on his wall seems like a reasonable tiebreaker method.

Best ability is availability and the kid who wants to be here rates pretty high on that scale.

In an age where marketing messages of draftees are highly scripted I also don't believe it was an accident the lions reference was in the article, however this was probably more so that we are being talked about as the no 1 pick holder (which I don't see)...but a less than subtle reminder never hurts.

Considering we did this the last time around with a certain mid that would have looked really handy in Lions colours today.

Really i think it should be a no brainer. If there is a couple of players we rate pretty close in talent, and 1 of them is a long time true supporter than you don't turn that down. They will probably play 10% better being in the jumper they love so much too.

The problem is if they are really "that close in talent". Lucosius and King twins would have more talent than Walsh imo due to them being rated number 1 pick whereas Walsh is more of a top 5 pick. So the scenario is, do we slightly downgrade a bit of talent for a true Lions supporter or grab to best player available.

We may have pick 4 or 5 yet.
