Bid what you are prepared to pay to end up with a player. Especially anything outside of the top 10 when clubs' ranking boards diverge so much. Any other strategy is completely stupid. I bet you idiots who keep suggesting otherwise play the pokies!
Pretty much on the money unless there is a good relationship/understanding between particular clubs and have agreed to not bid on each others academy/FS picks.

Unless we can get lukoscious I cannot see why the club would even entertain going with another tall. Jack Payne , Harris Andrews and Gardiner looks pretty good back 3 long term . Although haven’t seen Payne play yet have heard very good reports . I’m also praying that Sam Skinner can get a clear shot at it he is an absolute weapon and the one game he played against West coast I thought he was mighty impressive even when used as a forward . With ballandeen and them
Also recently acquiring fulleton would think we are just gonna load up on as many kids as we can for the next 2 years and hope we snag a couple of beauties .

Also looking likely with the media beat up that Carlton are gonna get a priority pick do we assume it will be an end of first round or are the muppets at AFL house gonna give them pick 2 . Surely if pick 2 is given we would have every right to ask the question why they get that when we got an of first round.

While we are out of the PP argument this season, we certainly have been as bad, if not worse, than Carlton the previous couple seasons. If the Blues get a PP I'll be disgusted (though we know it's going to happen)

We got one 2 seasons ago but end of first round if they get a start of first round I’ll lose all faith in the muppets who are already ruining the game.

Even more so if they bring in Zones next year.

Carlton will have to go back on their statement of not asking for a PP first before it's even given. If that does occur they'll likely get an end of first round. A one win season should certainly qualify.

If the Blues end up with a 1-21 record I can definitely see the AFL giving them pick 2 which would make me furious. If the Suns end up with band 1 compensation that would rule out 2 elite draft picks for us and in all likely hood missing out on one of Lukosius, Rankine, Walsh and Smith.

I wouldn't be against them getting an end of first round as we did though.

I don't think there's any real support for giving Carlton a priority pick at the beginning of the draft. And despite what Pagan says I really doubt the AFL will give them any priority pick if Carlton don't reverse their position and ask for one.

And given how critical Judd - a Carlton board member - was of the system it'd be quite a backflip.

It's ridiculous. I'd be furious if I was a Carlton fan. Individuals are putting their pride and personal views over the interests of the club and its paying members. Take whatever support you can get and worry about appearances when you're back on top of the ladder.

And it's going to make it even more embarrassing when they're given one.

It should be an end of first round pick though.

It would be embarrassing for the AFL. I just don't think they're willing to lose face by giving a priority pick to a club whose board has been so critical of the entire system.

They won't get a pick 2 after we got an end of first round a few years ago. Carlton said they weren't going to ask for one, had to much pride or somethig. I believe his words were "We got ourselves into this mess and we will get ourselves out of it".
As soon as you make a statement like that, it should rule u out.

Zorko said something similar last year. Reckon they must know they are not getting one so they are trying to paint a positive picture for their fan base.

We beat the suns and saints easily and I honestly think we are going to be super competitive with chances this week and against Adelaide and north . I am pretty confident we finish above the saints leaving us with pick 5 . I cannot see Carlton trading someone with the talent of lukoscious out unless Adelaide lose their marbles and offer overs which seems a strong possibility and even then nobody gives up pick 1 these days . With so many high draft picks which Carlton have used which have been wasted you would think Walsh or lukoscious seem as good a bet as any. I think Adelaide will go to Gold Coast to nab lukoscious or rankine. In end I’d feel pretty happy about adding someone of bailey smiths ability to our midfield group with 5 good blend of contested and uncontested.

This. I want us to match up against these finals bound clubs and give them a genuine fright. Rather than hoping on a pick 1 to 5 draftee adding to the list, a collective improvement/belief from the group will set us up very well for 2019. If that equates to getting only pick 5, all good.

Mission - to beat Hawks again this week, doing it without Andrews will be another level altogether.

I know we’re seemingly well set for tall forwards. But I wouldn’t mind Hudson Garoni from the Bushrangers. Looms as a top 20 pick for mine. Big fan but.
Yep. Was a monster as a 17 year old but has slimmed down. Strong mark and very reliable kick. Would actually rate him ahead of Wooller.

I’d have him as a better forward prospect than all on our list bar Hipwood and probably McStay. He’s been seriously impressive and is very underrated on here for mine.

I agree completely, look at North Melbourne at the end of last year. They could have thrown the towel in against us in the last round and taken pick one. But they came to the Gabba wanting to win and now this year they are pushing for top 8 finish. Winning culture is a good culture and the top picks rarely end up the best player in the draft. I say we win as many as we can and worry about draft picks on draft night. If we want Walsh, try and trade up the draft with Gold Coast, if we can’t we still get a highly rated player with pick 5-7

Your people would surely have to be looking at that Sam Walsh chap with your first pick ??

Has openly stated he would relish the opportunity to not only play in the AFL but to be at the Lions. He has also told of a family link to supporting the club (grandfather ??) and because of that, would not even consider moving back to Victoria at anytime if he was drafted to Brisbane.

Be a shrewd pick-up if the opportunity was there.

Spot on L17, I had a go at picking the best player out of the top 10 of the last few drafts, very early I know for the more recent ones.

2017- Jaidyn Stephenson- (Pick 6).
2016- Hugh McCluggage- (3).
2015- Callum Mills- (3). Clayton Oliver- (4).
2014- Jordan De Goey- (5).
2013- Josh Kelly- (2). Marcus Bontempelli- (4).
2012- Jack Macrae- (6). Oliver Wines- (7).
2011- Stephen Coniglio- (2). Chad Wingard- (6)
2010- Andrew Gaff- (4).

I went best of the top 10 because every club usually has the same player or a similar group of players in their pick 1 possibilities.

Same thing was said about one Joshua Schache lord, Rayner was also said to be a flight risk, already signed a 2 year extension.

I know what you mean though, but you never know.

Hmmmm, all mid types as well. Walsh is a pipe dream but I'm also pretty keen on Bailey Smith and will be tracking him quite closely throughout the rest of the season.

Edit - just found this article about Smith. Very impressive person and no doubt will do anything to succeed https://www.foxsports.com.au/afl/af...r/news-story/5f42e02c310bd1da06c1a09607dd92fb
