That’s the thing, I don’t see Walsh as a good fit. They need a Smith type more.
Pretty safe to assume that they need all types of players. If they rate Walsh higher they will take him over Smith.
There is probably only 2 players who have really solidified their positions this year.
Cripps and Curnow. Then you have Doc to come back in. They have a lot of holes to fill. And a few ageing guys on their way out.

Unlikely I know, but have my fingers and toes crossed that GC select the King Twins with their first 2 picks. Would be wonderful for us
I could see that happening if they lose both Lynch and May. IMO if they lose Lynch only and get picks 2 and 3 they go one of the King twins or Lukosius if Carlton take Rankine/Walsh instead and their highest rated mid.

Blues would have to go Walsh or Lukosius, probably leaning towards Walsh, as good as Lukosius is. I reckon pick 5 might not be too bad of a pick. Good chance a Rankine or Smith might fall to 5. If live trading happens, and Rankine is there, then i think the door opens for a Crows trade. Really the King twins are going to entirely shape this draft. Could see the Suns basically going best available talent at their pick, and if they end up with a compo pick you would have to think they would be tempted by grabbing the twins. We've looked for links and team mates when we have done our draft to help players settle, Suns are still struggling with retention. Reckon they can still add some more mid depth with their 2nd pick, and that isn't even looking at their academy. They aren't too bad for talls the Suns, but it would have to be tempting to grab such highly rated KPPs and know they they would love playing in the same jumper.

Cal Twomey just said on Future Stars young McFadyen could receive a bid inside top 30. He has him now in the best under 18s side of the year.
Don't think it is going to be high enough to impact our first 2 picks. Wouldn't be the worst thing in the world if we can get our first 2 picks and McFadyen bid comes after wiping the rest of our picks out. Unless he really sets the world on fire for the remainder of the year, i just can't see him jumping that high.

Would love two live picks in, prior to being pressed to taking McFadyen.

Ideal scenario; 1 x top 3 pick, 1 x late top 10, 1 x 12-16 (Tom Berry?) then coverage for McFadyen.

Our first and second next year for GC's Lynch compo pick (#3) + their 3rd rounder this year - could take one of Walsh/Rankine/Lukosius/Smith

Trade down our pick (#5 or #6 - wherever it falls) for Adelaide's #8 or #9 + their second rounder this year - could pick RCD/Hately/Rozee/Caldwell here.

Could then package up our two second rounders for a third first round pick - coverage for Berry.

Leaving us with two 3rd rounders - coverage for McFadyen.

That gives us one of the elites, a very good second tier late top 10 projected pick player, Thomas Berry, McFadyen.

Could Hill from WA be an option if we miss out on Smith, Walsh and Rankine?

Assuming we plan on taking McFayden some outside run might be handy with that first pick.

Heard today that we were showing keen interest in Noah Answerth last year before he copped a broken back. Was reasonably impressive for Vic Metro in the Champs this year playing mainly as a medium defender but can also play forward and midfield. Over-ager with no outstanding attributes but some chance we may use a late pick or rookie selection on him.

If we finish with pick 5 or 6, I’d definitely be interested in trading down.
I’m not sure who has the picks to make such a trade.

If the Crows strike out on trading for pick 1 and Lukosius, Rankine would have to still be on board for them to want pick 5 or 6, and for them to trade up with their two first round picks, they’ll want our second rounder back.

Something like Adelaide’s pick 9 and 13 for the Lion’s picks 5 and 23.

Carlton are not going to go back from 1 to 8 though are they?
So maybe Adelaide will have to manufacture other trades to make their way up the order to offer Carlton something more substantial.
A trade with us as you suggest, might net them pick 4 or 5 plus they might also have another lower pick if McGovern leaves to offer to Carlton.

Adelaide selling the farm for pick 1 doesn’t make sense for me, even for an absolute stud.

What you’re suggesting amounts to two first round picks to us, plus another first and pick 5, or a player and pick 5 for pick 1.

That’s a lot to give up, especially when there would be 3+ young SA mids available around their current picks.

I agree, I have not thrown up a full trade scenario here as Adelaide would need to get more in return. I am just saying that I can’t see Carlton going from pick 1 to pick 8 or 9.
So therefore Adelaide will need to be creative to work their way up the order to offer Carlton something more attractive.
We may be a club who can help in that situation although GC might be more likely considering they will more than likely have pick 2 and 3.

The Crows would be open to that idea if they had reliable intel that somebody in the first 4 selections was going to go a King twin or 2. The question is would we be open to it. If we have a strong view that Walsh and Smith would be gone we may. Get Rozee and Caldwell? Who do you think would be around that mark briz?

The poster above me had already proposed an Adelaide trade. That’s effectively what I was responding to.

Foolish to write anything off or make concrete predictions. Every year trade week throws up scenarios no one saw coming. All the permutations of player movements, free agency compensation, pick swaps, future picks etc make predictions as hard as Lotto numbers. Who saw the 2016 pick swap with GWS as possible halfway through that year?

Ultimately we just have to wait and see. No harm in discussion but people waste a lot of emotional energy speaking definitively on things that are almost entirely unforseeable.

They’d be unlucky to miss out on both. If that happens, one of King, Walsh or Smith is a pretty decent consolation prize.

Why bother having this thread at all then? All we have until trade week is speculation and innuendo to fill our brains with only to spit chips when the club goes against popular theory and backs their recruitment team who does this for a living.

Thus the circle of life begins again after draft night

Did you see the bit where he said “no harm in having the discussion”?

Yeah you missed my point.

Find the Selwood comparison a bit of a head scratcher as I see Selwood as a seriously tough nugget and Walsh hasn't shown the same.
Agree. Walsh is more outside whereas Selwood is more inside for me.

Such a shame we wont get to draft him :( "best fit" discussions aside, we need to continue to get the best available talent in, and the romance of a Lions supporter is always a great thing for us supporters :)
