Will be interesting to see what the Suns do. If they end up with 2 and 3 surely they might look at a Crows trade. Still think they might be a chance to take King. If it was me i reckon id be happy to trade 3 for 8 and 13 (iirc crows picks). Take King at 2 then draft mids with 8 and 13. They will still get some nice mids at those picks and secure another gun tall. They do have some tall talent, but i think King is a much more natural talent.

Suns need to rebuild the culture and try get extra talent in. Id trade out anyone showing signs of wanting out. They get a 2nd chance, no reason they cant do what we have done in 18 months.

I’d probabmy agree that if they end up with 3 if Lynch leaves then trading it for 8 and 13 is probabmy a pretty good idea.

Grab King and then two mids.

The old saying - Stand for something or fall for anything. We are getting our head around this and the Suns need to do the same.

I’m all for bashing the Plastics, but it’s not like it is a priority pick they are putting their hand out for. It’s free agency compensation for losing a very good player. It sucks that it pushes our pick back but that’s the rules. Hate the game not the playa.

Ultimately you would want no FA compensation, but that just isnt realistic with the way the conpetition is at the moment. FA hasnt helped lower teams attract more talent, and lower teams wpuld continue to get bled dry. Whilst i have no love for the Suns, and i hate that we lose a spot in the draft, Suns deserve that pick for losing such an important player. It really does suck for them and also the sport in QLD.

We are lucky in that we have got players like Harro and Hippy via our academy so far, and thr likely hood of them leaving is a lot smaller than other players. The academies were great to help balance out that go home factor, but we are already seeing these NGA academies nulifying that 1 advantage we had. The players getting linked to traditional state clubs is ridiculous.

I’m still not sold they’ll accept pick 3. Particularly if they’re able to attract a free agent themselves.
Certainly could play out differently yet. Is the big name player this off season so we wont be short on stories or commetary that is for sure.

Yeah free agency is the big uncertainty due to the implications on their compo. If they can lure someone up they will basically have to trade for them or match Lynch’s offer and force his destination club to trade.

If they do accept pick 3 and are able to manufacture a trade with Adelaide for 2 first round picks. Then they will receive more out of that than if they were to force a trade with Collingwood or Richmond. They may be able to get 2 late first rounders at best probably.
They would be silly not to take pick 3 knowing that Adelaide desperately want Lukosius. And I still can’t imagine Carlton doing a similar trade with Adelaide if they have to move from pick 1 back to pick 8 or 9.

If I was them I'd definitely angle for Hawthorn's first this year, next year and an ok player at a minimum. After all that's pick 9(ish), another top 20 pick, and a solid citizen that GC have had some success with - it's not unreasonable to rate 9, 15 and a player over pick 3.

I agree with this. If they traded their pick 2 last year for Lachie Weller, its clear they'd rather an established player that wants to be at their club than a high pick, so even if they are offered a pretty lopsided trade, they'd probably take it.

Am I the only person that cares very little for what happens at the Suns and their well being as a club? It seems i feel very differently about them as opposed to some other posters haha
The rivalry hatred is strong.
I'm with you Jubair, I don't care about the Suns anymore than I do about any other opposition side, other than being of the opinion that they should never have been bought into the competition in the first place.

I'd care less about what happened to them if it didn't impact us. Can't say I hate the Suns though. At this point I just feel sorry for them.

Hopefully that player is Whitecross and the rumours about him coming to us will end once and for all.

I don’t hate them in a pure rivalry sense. I think deep down it is because I just haven’t been able to truly accept them as a legitimate, real club. As much as I love the idea of a true rival, they still have this weird experimental, novelty vibe to me which makes it hard to develop the heartfelt and almost personal contempt I have for the Collingwoods and Essendons of the comp. For that reason, I find myself cheering for them against those clubs for reasons of pure amusement.

I just resent their needless existence and the neglect, loss of an already tenuous market share, dilution of already sparse local talent and other disadvantages we have had to cop in order for this seemingly futile exercise to take place.

Only 1 Queenslander in the U16 All Australian team and he is a Suns Academy player - Alex Davies from up Cairns way. Could be slim pickings for us in 2 years.

I dunno about that. Seems we're doing well with late developers like Andrews and now McFadyen as opposed to others that peaked at that age

Exactly this. They could take pick 3 this year or ultimately 2 first round picks (either this year or over this and next) plus a best 22 mature player as well. To me that is an easy decision if I was GC

Their establishment couldn't have come at a worse time for us and a major cause of our disaster period. In once sense they are a positive in the development of the game on the coast but we lost $5K members & access to the best quality young players in those early years when our lowly ladder position would have provided us with some very good youngsters. They're are here now so for the sake of footy in Qld I would like them to at least become relevant so when we kick their arses each year it means something.

Actually, I don't hate them at all.

QLD is a tough marketplace, and while I don't think the AFL want us or Gold Coast to fail, I'd say that there has (for us for about a decade, and for GC maybe since about 2013) been a case of severe neglect of the QLD marketplace. GC got their startup concessions, and straight after that, far stronger concessions were awarded for GWS. Both GC and us have been left to fend for ourselves. Even academies, our only real advantage to compensate for significant geographical difficulties, has now been surpassed by the far stronger academies gifted to all Vic, SA and WA teams.

Frankly, much as the AFL is trying to generate a bit of spite and rivalry, I consider GC our fellow victims of a stacked system - comrades in chains. At one of those ridiculous QClash joint conferences, I'd far prefer a joint bit of spite at AFL House than at each other (never happen of course - one doesn't genuinely criticise the AFL unless one never wants to be employed in the industry again). When the players try to force a bit of spite at each other, it never sounds real anyway.
