If Carlton select Lukosius at 1 and then the Suns end up with picks 2 and 3(Taking the Lynch compo), Sam Walsh and Bailey Smith would be two very handy additions to help rebuild their midfield. Two quality, inside/outside, pure mids with leadership potential and high character/drive to succeed. Exactly what the Suns need. If we have pick 4 take the punt on Rankine.
We don’t need a small forward. We need midfielders.

I think if the suns were good we'd hate them but I see them as easy beats so I'm happy they're in the comp.
At the moment I dislike GWS more than I ever have the Suns. Most of that of course because of Harris. But I'm sure it was the same when May ironed out Stef, though that wasn't quite as bad

I don't see Suns trading pick 3. Suns got plenty of picks. I believe Suns will go for the best talent. First 5 picks have potential to be special.

If Carlton picks Walsh (my bet) Suns will pick Lukosius and Smith.

If Carlton picks Lukosius Suns will pick Wash and Rankine (my bet, unless he's a high risk to go home), alternatively King/Smith. Then Eagles pick 17 drafting another midfielder. Add 3 academy products Scott (midfielder, yet to pick a team) and Graham, Koenan both KPP. Scott and Graham are great talent.

I noticed a lot of confidence here after 3 wins. Congrats. Happy for you as I have a soft spot for Lions living in Brisbane. But don't get too confident. I don't see a lot of depth on Lions list. You had an exceptional luck with injuries this year. Basically missing only 2 best 22 last 3-4 games otherwise you had the best team on the field every game. Not sure how Lions would go starting season with 9 away games while travelling all over country and China and missing 4 best 22 first 5 games and then 6-9 best 22 every game. Last week Suns had 13 players on the injured list. You could argue why Suns have so many injuries but that's another story.

Who says we're confident? Every bit of media in the past couple of weeks has been to make sure we don't get complacent, and treat it as a week to week task. So thanks for your advice, but I'm liking where our footy club is headed.

Not a lot of depth? That's strange, that's exactly what I see on the Suns list. An extreme lack of depth, with even less promising youngsters. Players wanting out, not a real good place to be right now.

You had an exceptional luck with injuries this year. Basically missing only 2 best 22 last 3-4 games otherwise you had the best team on the field every game.
Missed the last few years pal? It's not luck, we have changed our football personnel, including our fitness and conditioning coaches, as well as a revamp of our football department. Funny how injuries are attributed to luck. We missed Robinson, Christensen for part of the year as well.

Lol. You had a softer draw, deal with it.

thanks for pointing out you don't think we are very good and just have been lucky. What a strange post, yeah we don't care about your travel or injury list. Just saying.....

Your club chose not to make ‘travel’ an excuse for losing.
So why should the fans/you?

I'd argue that our depth has been surprisingly better than I'd have thought.

We lost Andrews, Walker steps in and plays career best football. We lost Cameron, Barrett steps in and plays a really important pressure role for the team. We lose Hodge, Cedric Cox comes in and plays a role in his second year.

In the reserves, we've got Mayes, Bell, Bastinac, Beams, Smith, Starc, Bailey, Dawson, Ballenden and Hinge who are all pushing for the senior squad. In this list, we've got guys who can cover forward, middle and back.

Our reserves and seniors play a very similar -if not identical - game plan so if we lose someone, another guy can step into his shoes and play a role.

That is the definition of depth imo.

Don't get me wrong, I am not criticising Lions. I actually watch Lions every game and root for them except when playing Suns. I like the style, young players, coach but the list you just mentioned is not overly impressive. Yes, I like Bailey. Starc, Ballenden still have to develop. Bell will be probably delisted etc.

There is awhile to go, we are still developing. Many young players are still unproven and depth not yet established. Players like Bewick, Bell, Bastinac cant get a game because we are looking at the future and will likely end up delisted at some point.

That list isn't impressive if they're best 22. The fact is they're not and their job is depth. As depth, you can certainly do worse than having guys like Bewick (100+ games) Bell (100+ games) and Bastinac (100+ games).

Depth doesn't have to be A grade or even B grade. They need to be blokes who can fill gaps if injuries occur.

That's exactly what I wanted to say. Believe me I could not be happier watching Lions run over Hawks in Tasmania. That was a great win. Also seeing Clarko in the coach box in the last quarter was something.

Anyone else see the irony that lions fans were saying we don’t dislike the suns and sort of hope they get out of the turmoil, next minute a suns fan comes on to can our list and lack of injuries!!

The rivalry is back on as far as I am concerned

Actually, I don't hate them at all.

QLD is a tough marketplace, and while I don't think the AFL want us or Gold Coast to fail, I'd say that there has (for us for about a decade, and for GC maybe since about 2013) been a case of severe neglect of the QLD marketplace. GC got their startup concessions, and straight after that, far stronger concessions were awarded for GWS. Both GC and us have been left to fend for ourselves. Even academies, our only real advantage to compensate for significant geographical difficulties, has now been surpassed by the far stronger academies gifted to all Vic, SA and WA teams.

Frankly, much as the AFL is trying to generate a bit of spite and rivalry, I consider GC our fellow victims of a stacked system - comrades in chains. At one of those ridiculous QClash joint conferences, I'd far prefer a joint bit of spite at AFL House than at each other (never happen of course - one doesn't genuinely criticise the AFL unless one never wants to be employed in the industry again). When the players try to force a bit of spite at each other, it never sounds real anyway.

'comrades in chains" - what a wonderful way with words you have.

I’d agree we have been pretty lucky with injuries this year, and at any one time have probably only missed two best 22 players.

I also agree that we have very shallow depth after our best 25 odd players.

Much of our “depth” consists of experienced players who have had a line drawn through them, have been stinking up the reserves for the last month or more, and likely won’t make the first team again before they are de-listed at the end of this year or next.

Or, they’re young kids that haven’t seen first team action yet, but us Lions fans hope they show something towards the end of the season or next year.

Not sure how closely you have been watching our games mate? We are building some great depth on the team. Have u noticed how other players have filled the void - Walker is a prime example. Brisbane has had a great number of injuries over the past 2 seasons. In regards to this year, we haven't had a lot of injuries, but Cameron IMO would have been very close to leading our B&F before be was injured and Harris would have been leading the B&F before he got injured. Beams has had a wonderful last 6 weeks, but beforehand was nowhere near his best. Not just best 22 players, but vitally important players.

Don't think many people on here are too confident. We are simply excited that we are starting to play some consistent footy.

I enjoyed reading the first part of your post, but then u seemed to just have a dig at our list and supporters. I sense some jealously? Good luck with the rest if the season champ.

No jealousy at all. Lions is basically my second team. I am very happy for Lions. You don't want to watch both teams losing every week :) I just noticed that before winning streak a lot of fans were too critical and now some become quite the opposite. Winning brings confidence and has amazing impact on players. Yes, great to watch Walker against Hawks. Year ago people were calling for his delisting. Credit to Fagan and team. Good luck against Crows.

Fair call mate. Hopefully both teams can have some success in the near future. Have a good rest of the year and hopefully the Suns can notch another win before the seasons end. BTW, please take the King Twins! Lol.;)

I’m all for bashing the Plastics, but it’s not like it is a priority pick they are putting their hand out for. It’s free agency compensation for losing a very good player. It sucks that it pushes our pick back but that’s the rules. Hate the game not the playa.
Love the game, respect the players (except for that Cameron A-hole...maybe a couple of others as well). The Suns all cocky at the start raided us (some would argue to our benefit in the end) but that intent and well look at them now.
