Does anyone know the likelyhood of us picking up Thomas Berry?

From what I've read he's supposed to be a better prospect than Jarrod at u18 level.
At this early stage, I’d pick him up with our second pick, if available.

Not to dissimilar player to Sam Walsh.

I reckon Clugg will be as good a mid as Beams, but not as good a leader.

Far too early to stereotype McCluggage as inside /outside or To get a handle on his leadership qualities

Beams was an inconsistent outside player/half forward for much of his time at Collingwood.

That article In the cm today is an eye opener as to how much he has matured as a person and a player.

Look at him now

Has to be one of the best performed under aged mids in the past 20 odd years? Just accumulates the footy consistently like it is easy. Averaged I think 30 disposals at TAC Cup level? Runs a 16 beep test as well. As as been said a Lions fan as well and a Vic Country/Geelong Falcons boy:)
Is his disposals have any hurt factor? Some players get 30 disposals and you are genuinly surprised that he has that many.

Yeah, still waiting on news for when live trading will be brought it.

If we landed pick 1, I can see a lot of clubs making genuinely good offers for it.

Is that Rankine? If it is NO DEAL. The other clubs already have to many of our 1st rounders. Come on Briztoon wheres the man love gone for Rankine? Don’t hold it in anymore, let it out. Share your love of his football with the whole footy world.

Doesn't have the hurt factor of a real class player e.g. Simon Black or Sam Mitchell, however, he reminds me so much of Trent Cotchin it is scary how similar they are out on the field right down to the way they move.

I am wondering how much our 2019 academy kids, specifically the positions they play, will impact upon our possible draft strategy in 2018.

I know very little about our 2019 academy kids, but have read a little from last years NAB U16 Championships, that's how I had heard about Kobe Tozer and Tom Wischnats. There has also been a little snippets mentioned here on the Lions board by the likes of TheBrownDog that our 2019 academy kids could be special. Yesterday had a brief discussion on the draft board and another poster offered up this about next years academy kids.

If we had pick 1, it would be very hard to go past Jack Lukosius, just on last years form. He's also stared in this seasons early S.A. U18 trial game and SANFL preseason game.

Just as a pure excitement player and a kid who can do things others can't, I'm sticking with Izak Rankine. But there are any number of kids who would help our rebuild with our first two picks. The top end talent could legitimately go 12 to 15 players deep, with another group of 12 to 15 players on the tier just below. It looks to be a deep draft, and I would be happy if we just took our first three picks to the draft and go hard at the free agent/trade period, or re-sign some of our better performing out of contract players to one more year. Especially if we have a lot of high end talent coming out of our academy the year after.

I'm sticking with Izak Rankine. Sounds like a line from Donald Trump. Make the Lions Great Again. You had me at Izak. If he continues what he did last year no brainer. Our 1st pick God willing Izak Rankine. Love his skills from what i have seen. Extremely impressive and most importantly adds to our growing list of Talent. Well Done. The clips you shared with everyone convinced me immediately his talents are exactly what the lions need.Great skill set.Massive fan of Izak. Can play in the midfield how good can it get.

I think there's literally no chance we pick him up any time before November.

Also before November: about 25+ football games for him and at least 22 football games for us that will all affect said likelihood.

Any leadership ability like Cotchin. Really think we need to get as many leaders as possible as we have been known to be a 'quiet' team.

I think Connor Rozee could be the pick of the bunch this year. A lot of talk going round about Lukosius/Rankine/Walsh/King ect. however, Rozee looks like one of the better under age midfield prospects to come through in a number of years. He is just a really well rounded prospect with a vast skill set that should serve him well at AFL level. He can win his own footy, however, it is his acceleration and elite kicking skills on the outside that really catches the eye. He's a good size around the 186cm mark and has elite hands both at ground level and in the air so he could turn into a difficult match up when resting forward. Speaking of playing forward he doesn't mind kicking a goal either. Finally one thing that really sets him apart is his defensive pressure/tackling game which is a major strength of his. My early favourite in this years draft class and with our need to add another young, gun mid I'll be keeping close eyes on both him and Walsh this year.

Hardwick was saying last night on 'On the Couch' that when looking at draftees that tackling and pressure is becoming highly rated when comparing similar types of players. Even to the point of picking that type of a player over someone whose skills might be a bit better. This lead me back to thinking about Rozee as his tackling numbers as a junior in last year's national's really stood out. Will be keeping a very close eye on him this year.

Good thing we drafted Rayner then!

. Can tackle
. Can kick
. Can park
. Can score
. Can defend
. Gun

Not bad.

Can smile after being drafted.

Just need to see what colour mouthguard he wears in round 1 now.

From reports, Thomas Berry was having a very good first game of the season at TAC cup yesterday, until he came off second best in a collision with a behind post. Was named as best on ground for GWV by the coaches despite playing half game. Kicked a couple of goals, hard at the contest and hunts the ball.

will be top 12 selection by years end I reckon. Shame as I don't think we'd have a pick for him unless we blow pick 1 but would rather Lukosius or possibly Walsh.

He can go play somewhere else for 2 years and then come up and play with big brother after that :)

I don't believe that's in the Berry brothers nature. They are appear to loyal boys. So where ever Thomas is drafted to, I expect him to stay there and become a future leader of the club.

It's way too early to be predicting where most of these players will go in the draft bar a small group who will be top ten to first rounders. As much as we admire Jarrod (getting a man crush myself) has anyone seen his brother Tom play?
