Given how much has been written in this thread about Rankine as a potential number one pick, I've found it surprising that not once has he been named in the rolling best 22 team on Future Stars.

Has he not continued with his blistering form from last season or is there something else at play.

No idea who he is, but a kid by the name of Irving Mosquito has been named in the forward pocket each week. What a name; up there with an indigenous called Winston Chainsaw about 7-8 years ago.

Edit, just read that Mosquito is from Halls Creek (where Cedric Cox hails from and seems to be following a similar path in relocating to play TAC Cup footy) and is part of Hawthorn's NGA - Link . Its probably been discussed elsewhere, but how on earth are indigenous kids parts of the Melbourne based club's academies? Surely, these indigenous kids would have been playing AFL irrespective of the NGA. I was of the understanding that it was targeted at kids from other sports or ethnic backgrounds that hadn't played AFL.

Rankine suspended for the first 3 rounds of the SANFL. Got a bit upitty in a preseason game and charged for two separate incidents.

Is the Future Stars team TAC cup based?

Irving Mosquito has been playing TAC for the last 3 years that I’m aware of, so not sure at what age he moved down to Victoria. NGA also for indigenous kids who need more support to make it at an elite level. Or so the rhetoric goes.

Probably explains his non-selection then.

No, Callum Twomey names all kids eligible for the draft in the team.

Doesn't seem right IMO that indigenous kids already playing the game qualify for the NGA.

On melbourne radio this morning, talk that sa clubs are interested in rankine.read into that what you will. I am personally very suspicious. His suspension, conspiracy theory time will tell. We need a lot. I personally want to strengthen the midfield, in draft and Fa ,uncontracted players support backline ,forwards etc,to put icing on the cake.

Why wouldn't they be interested? He's a gun.

Very small chance of them getting him though. Perhaps they are hoping for another Fogarty and he slides.
Have thought this for awhile actually think that Fogarty did something similar frankly.

I love watching Rankine play, and he reminds me a little of Akermanis.

But I’ve just about become resigned to us drafting Sam Walsh (not that that’s a bid thing).

Listening to Twomey today, Sam’s 15 year old brother is already 200cm.
Is he a lions fan too?

Thats almost a bad thing imo. He will probably continue to grow further and for a key position player, they need agility and speed which will be hindered if he gets too tall. Will probably be a ruckman.

Under 18s:

Glenelg kicked away against Sturt, and country lad Seb Schreiber was a standout through the whole game with 26 possession and seven rebounds. Finn Betterman was also strong throughout the match in a range of positions. Mihail Lochowiak was solid again with two goals from 24 possessions, but Sturt ruckman James Braidwood caught the eye with 14 contested possessions and 26 hitouts. Father-son Casey Voss was again in the best with six rebounds over the game.

Its ok to want to draft a gun ,but it is another thing to taint, tarnish manipulate the draft to your own advantage. That to me goes against what the draft is all about and dare I say it brings this great game into disrepute.if any club is found to be manipulating the draft they should be given the highest penalty possible ,excused from the draft. Draft tampering should never be condoned.

Keep in mind he has to nominate for father-son and voss fell out of love with brisbane. Thanks Angus

Her's a rookie prospect I imagine.

Will happily go anywhere.

FWIW I reckon Michael probably sees his legacy at Brisbane as much bigger than the adminstrative bunglings of Angus Johnson.

Yeah, yeah agreed. Just felt like putting a kick into Angus.

On the first Road to the Draft Podcast of the year Twomey basically confirmed Nick Blakey is no chance to nominate us as a father son - said preference is the Swans with North an outside chance.

Not a surprise but a shame - apparently he kicked 5 and had 20 odd touches in the academy series over the weekend.

Meanwhile Luke Bogle racks up 42 possessions (32 contested), 14 intercepts and 8 tackles for South Adelaide U18 on the weekend and cannot even make the SA U18 squad of 50. He has been in their bests each week too.. no mention of him anywhere ... Crows and Port keeping him under wraps?

I am interested in these types of players, in that they are able to get their hands on the ball repeatedly. I wouldn't take it in isolation but will be interesting to see how he tracks and also other similar types. Caleb's Daniel and also Matt Crouch were two that racked up big numbers and for different reasons slid but are good to very good footballers. These two made their respective state teams so that is a difference between those two and Luke Bogle.

I'd be happy if Casey was a good a player as his uncle. I think expecting him to be his Dad is a path to sadness.

EDIT general comment on expectation management, not necessarily directed at TBD.

Only playing under 18 level in the SANFL. Gotta remember Aish had 2 senior SANFL premierships before being drafted. SANFL under 18s is nowhere near the level of the TAC cup. Although Will Hayward’s under 18 finals series got him drafted by Sydney so you never know.

John Blakey was a wonderful player for Fitzroy first and then a Premiership player at North Melb. So logically he will play for the Swans! The AFL really is messed up in so many ways.

It doesn't matter it's only Brisbane

There's a nice thread you might want to visit on the trade and draft page.

Personally, I won't have a problem with Hodge's kids coming through our academy if he sticks around for the next 10 to 12 years as an assistant coach.
