From ESPN, the highlighted is a bit of a worry.

Top rated Victorian midfielder Sam Walsh was one of Geelong's best players, collecting 33 disposals, 15 contested possessions, seven tackles and one goal. While Walsh's ball-winning ability and acceleration cannot be questioned, he would be disappointed that only four of his 17 kicks were effective.
Just for the records, Point Gellibrand Oval in Williamstown on windy day makes BurpinGary look like the tropical doldrums and she was blow'n a gale on the weekend down here. Ineffective kicks for both teams totalled 173 [over 57%] - and of Sams 33 disposals in total, just under 52% were effective. ;)

Thanks for the additional information freddie, good to hear.

Given he had an elite kicking game a few weeks ago it isn't that much of a worry. If he consistently can't kick then I'd agree, but he does so much right he can afford the occasional poor kicking game.

Edit: what that blind bloke said! ;)

Granted it was windy but in my post #648 in this thread I noted an earlier game against the Knights in which Walsh's disposal seemed pretty ordinary and it didn't look to be particularly windy. It may be the major flaw (maybe the only one) in his game at this stage.

That’s the concern I raised before.

For the season he’s averaging 52% or 53% disposal efficiency.

One thing that needs to be factored in is where the kicks actually happen. If it is during a contested situation it is very hard to nail the kick. Kicking is much easier when you've got space on the outside.

I agree. And that’s part of my concern as Walsh is playing a lot outside. He’s averaging about a 2:1 ratio of uncontested possessions to contested possessions.

But where exactly is he kicking these errant kicks from? When he's under pressure or when he's not?

One of those things that is really hard to know without watching his games.

Is he in those tac videos you posted?

Yeah. Check the TAC cup website.

Does start/plays off the half forward line a bit. But stats are best used a only as a guide - for instance, Simon Black's disposals included an average of 11% clangers [afl tables] and in his last four years his average DE% was 64.6, and as a comparison Clayton Oliver is currently 73% [footywire] - So Clayton is already a better player than Simon? No, of course not... ;)

I just had a listen to Fages and Hodgeys presser and there was a little tit bit in there that pricked my ears, it was a question to Fages about the Lions having an interest in Tom Fullerton from the Brisbane Bullets, Fages seemed sheepish about it and admitted he had heard of him but the question needed to be directed to David Noble.

Anybody heard anything around the place about this?

Saw this on twitter a few days ago....

Have no idea who Fullarton is or what sort of athlete, but our own Greenwood would be handy.....

Thanks, yer I googled him and there is not much there, apparently he was All Australian at under 15 and 16 level Aussie Rules, I assume he is tall so probably a key position player.

Looks around Archie’s height. Better kick than the other basketballers.

Oops 2017 typo. No he was in the same academy year as Ballenden and Payne. Would have been eligible just like those boys.
Won’t say no if he turns out alright, but ‘we need some mids’! Especially from the Academy/Queensland system.
