If Carlton finish with pick 1 and Gold Coast picks 3 and 4, it will be interesting to see if the Suns try and trade up to try and get Lukosius. Picks 1 for picks 3+4. Carlton would need to top that up but it would be interesting to see if it is pursued.

FWIW, I reckon the Suns midfield will be quite good in a couple of years time. Swallow, Miller, Lyons, Weller, Brodie, Bowes, Fiorini, Ainsworth with Martin and Ah Chee rotating through. That’s a pretty good mix of guys who are already at the required level plus some talented youngsters. Every club wants to add to their midfield but they are one club who could probably afford to give up two higher draft selections to secure the best player in the draft.

Would consider buying a mature key power forward. Something we desperately need. This would also help our young forwards learn the art in the process, similar to Hodgey in the backline. We have been getting plenty of inside 50’s this year just not capitalising. Can sometimes take quite a while to develop a KPF. Would make a big difference IMO.

At stoppages and contested possessions we are outnumbered over the ball and players waiting outside the contest to move the ball.

Jackson Hately looking more and more like a genuine need.

True, Zorko and Beams carry that load and it would be great to see them be able to play more as HFF in their remaining years. Rayner will go through the centre and McCluggage as well but as stated that true inside clearance winner is a must. Could actually state that we need a couple. Midfields are what inevitably win you games.

Added that GC also hold a late 1st, an earlyish and mid 2nd, and two early 3rd round picks, they have plenty of picks to draft kids in other areas of need, or package picks to move up higher in the draft.

From 2015-18 his average clearances have dropped from 6.5 to 4.5 and similarly his contested possessions has dropped from 13 to 9.

Also Bundy has dropped off since injuries.

Even Berry isn’t that good yet.

mids, mids, mids. Had the easiest injury list to date before today's game and we are still down the bottom. This shows our lack of depth in this area. As much as l would wan't Luckosius we can get Key forwards through the Academy. Walsh, Hately and any of the others would be great. We need both a contested ball winning inside mid like Hately and we also need a ball winning mid like Walsh. Can't lose really.

But Luckosius is so much more than just a "key forward". In fact at AFL level he may not even play a traditional key forward position. Play him in the Nick Reiwoldt on a wing role and let him push forward whenever he wants, could be far more damaging in that role than as a key forward.

Tried to float this on the GC board. Not popular despite the fact they have a grand total of 6 KPP currently at the club. Its all about flashy types like Rankine and Rozzee apparently. However I do get the reluctance to part with what could well be picks 3 and 4 for tall skinny kids who would take time to develop.

Not sure about that connection between knee issues and core strength, there are plenty of core exercises you can do that don't put any stress on you knee.

We’ll surely we can all agree that since that knee injury he spends half the game on the ground because he gets knocked around so easily. Plus he can’t break or lay a tackle.

It would be interesting to see what Hately's testing results were as both Smith and Walsh are aerobic beasts. Looking forward to seeing some more vision of the boys as the champs continues but the ability to work at the coal face and also be able to spread is highly important in today's game and skills by foot. Caldwell and Berry have a bit of toe and that ability to get separation from a contest. Supposedly Bytel isn't as resilient as some recruiters would like. Yesterday, the majority of Valente's clearances were accumulated early when the contest was more willing. Apologies for highlighting Melbourne again but another thing to take into consideration was the majority of their newer players are hard at it types so again another factor to take into consideration. I'm still for generating more picks in the top 25 somehow.
