My original query with McFayden I don’t think holds up for me keeping him out of my top 50. Has the tools to be a genuine match winner in the middle and up forward

Make sure when you put him in to spell it McFadyen. I’m not sure where this misspelling has come from, but it was in the afl.com.au article too.

Wow it is spelt like that I never noticed, McFayden sounds so much better of the tongue haha So it’s pronounced fad-yen?

Looks a bit FIGJAM if you ask me. Yeah he has some special tools, but gee he burnt some team mates in that highlight package.

I reckon that is definitely coachable though - he's a kid with arrogance - plenty of them around and plenty who mature into better blokes.

Yer, I like a bit of arrogance in a player eg. Jason Akermanis, there is a bit of selfishness in the vision I have seen of him but I agree with you that in an AFL system that can be coached out of him.

I wouldn't hesitate to draft him if we rate him as the best player available at our first pick, I'd back Chris Fagan, David Noble, Andrew Crowell and co. and our emerging young group headed by leaders Harris Andrews and Jarrod Berry to make him feel so welcome he'd sign a contract extension in his first year.:)

Ainsworth was similar in that regard but not as talented. Gut feel says Adelaide will try and poach one of the bottom four draft picks to secure one of Luc or Rankine. I reckon they'd offer their first two picks but can't see them offering all three. If they did I would take it in a heartbeat. The top 15 or so talent pool is very deep.

I’m not a draft expert but from what I’ve seen Rankine is a much better prospect than Walsh or Smith. Worth the risk. Then go a safer option with our second.

I'm coming around to getting on the Rankine train as well, I was under the impression that one of the knocks on him was a lack of endurance, but that is not the case if you look at the analysis of him, he projects as being a devastating outside mid/forward in the AFL, his contested work looks fine in the vision I have seen as well.

High ceiling, but not sure if Rankine is someone we take with our current young midfield crop though. Hasn't shown an ability to consistently accumulate and win hard ball gets/contested possessions which is something we desperately lack. Would rather take Walsh or Smith as they fit better currently and are safer options. A team like the Blues who have a very good young core of young ball winning mids (Dow, SPS, Kennedy, Cripps) would be an ideal fit list wise where Rankine could play more on the outside and dominate.

Yeah I think we keep baking the cake and then ice it when it’s cooked. For reasons of competitiveness and retention. Those mercurial, primadonna type players are more likely to stick around if your team allows them to shine.

It’s easy to fall into the trap of thinking they are a rare, once-in-a-million type but they come around regularly enough.

A couple of interesting discussions on the draft page about both Rankine and Cameron jr.

Both are viewed as arrogant and possibly needing to be taught some lessons.

Yesterday before the WA game, I’m sure I read some one call Jarrad Cameron arrogant and a little sh!t.

Off the top of my head I can’t think of another player anything like Rankine from the last three drafts.

If we picked up Wallis, draft Walsh and another mid with 2nd rounder, our midfield of the future becomes Berry, McCluggage, Bailey, Starcevich, Wallis, Walsh, 2nd round pick, potentially Rayner, Camerons and a few others rolling through occasionally.
Likely A graders in Walsh, McCluggage, potential A graders in Rayner and Berry, 200+ gamers in Wallis and Bailey, and Starcevich/2nd round pick are still big unknowns. I think that sets us up well for the next 10 years.

Linked it before I watched it, but yes not as good as I was expecting, nice Charlie type mark early. We wont be getting him being an NGA for the Eagles anyway.

Will struggle to break into their forwardline.

Let them pump a couple of years development into him and if he has any interest to play with his brother we should be able to get him cheap if we want him.

Was just about to say something very similar. About time something came back our way. Half forward line of Cameron, Hipwood, Cameron could be a weekly highlight real down the track :)
