That is kind of what I was thinking with rookie listing him, then leading on to an assistant coach role if he is so inclined. Maybe chip in for the odd senior game if needs be.

For what it’s worth I think Lester would make a great assistant coach. He might not have the best physical attributes for the top level but he seems to really have good tactical awareness. Sometimes I think it is the lesser players who can make the best coaches - perhaps because they need to think about the game much more.

Unfortunately I think you can also add Paparone to that list. I think Bell, Bewick, Dawson & Paps are all in the 'very likely to go' camp. Barrett & Lester are in the senior side so have a better chance of sticking around I think.
I agree, bell, dawson, bewick n paps are very likely to go. I think basti would be useful at the suns and could be offered as a trade for a draft pick. Barret still has youth on his side and is useful depth going fwd, i do hope he has a good game today. I agree with jason pm and see lesters value along with claye beams as nealf coaches/developers like hodge in the firsts. Claye has been great in that role this year. Every club needs loyal players like that in the seconds, they need leadership too. I dont see any other players going, especially those that are still young. So for me, 4 or 5 out, 4 or 5 in is about all the changes we need to make this year.

Is there Any way we can get Jarrod Cameron? Outbid them I guess?
Would love to have the Berry bros & the Cameron bros at the Lions.
Those 2 + best mid available. Happy days.

I’d be trying to get both boys. Good for team unity and more chance of signing them up long term. Interesting to note that Connor Mc Fadyen on the academy list also has a younger brother Gus who is also excelling at representative level.

I hope Josh Walker earns himself another contract, for whatever reason I really rate him.

Agree. He needs more time in the seniors. He has been very good since his return. A useful swingman who can move forward or back depending on the game. Reminds me of a young Bradshaw.

Also his hair!

THIS Saturday's clash between Brisbane and Carlton could decide the wooden spoon, and leading No.1 pick contenders Sam Walsh and Jack Lukosius admit they're starting to follow the happenings near the bottom of the ladder.

The Geelong Falcons co-captain, who turned 18 on Monday, is an avid Lions fan and said he has started to think more about where he will be taken at November's draft.

Sam Walsh, an avid Brisbane fan, is a hot fancy for the No.1 draft spot

"It comes across the mind but I'm not taking it too seriously. I know there's lots of other really good players in this draft and I know them all personally, and anything can happen over the next few months. I keep an eye on it, but it's not the be-all and end-all," Lukosius said.

"The season's progressed a bit quicker than I thought, but I'm pretty open to whatever will happen and just hope I can get an opportunity somewhere."

I really hope we get Walsh. He is such a hard runner for his age and runs to the right positions, seems to possess a great feel for the game. All class. Reminds me of Trent Cotchin, would be a fantastic addition to our young midfield group. Would be part of a new Fab Four with Berry,McCluggage and Rayner. Could set us up for a dominant midfield for the next 10 years.

Looking at the ladder, we have far and away the best percentage of the bottom 4, we beat the Blues this weekend and we go to 16th (Suns lose to North) and from there IMO we finish 15th netting us pick 4 or 5 depending on compensation for the Suns re potential Tom Lynch departure.

That would have us in the frame for the likes of Izak Rankine, Riley Collier-Dawkins, Jackson Hately. I would be very keen to bid on Nick Blakey as well in that 4 or 5 spot. I don't want us to take one of the King twins.

Hopefully the Suns look to take the King twins with their 2 picks above us if Lynch leaves and it leaves us with one of Bailey Smith or Sam Walsh.

I wonder if they'd consider both to reduce the likelihood of homesickness.

The one that's not injured looks pretty ordinary from what I've seen. Wouldn't have thought he was worth a top 10 pick.

Agree, from the vision I have seen they don't do much for me either. No better than the likes of Schache, Boyd, Patton.

Watching the careers of Schache and Curnow so far has left me with little faith in these 2m tall forwards who dominate school and underage footy.

Curnow? What are you talking about...

He's an absolute beast already and getting better rapidly. His goal from 55m on Saturday was exceptional.

Schache.. Well yeah. Except since moving to the Dogs he's rediscovered his kicking, which he completely lost with us.

The tall forwards take longer but if you find a good one, you can build a team around them. There are so many good mids

Exactly. The one that isn't 2m tall has developed at a rapid pace. The one that's shorter but can actually take a strong grab and has better instincts as a forward is a much better choice than the tall athlete.
