Also what do you think we would have to give up to move from pick 4 to pick 2 and guarantee one of Walsh or lukoscious . Not sure giving up our second rounder is the best option with possibly berry , Taylor and McFadyden there

If we want to move from 4 to either 1 or 2 it won't be cheap. Imagine it would cost us pick 4, a player and maybe a swap of later picks. Or it could just be pick 4 and second rounder. Won't be easy to move up this draft I think, could cost a lot. Of course we might not need to and it all becomes a moot point

I don’t know about Bastinac, but I wonder whether they’d be interested in Lester who has a long-term partner from Queensland and would possibly want to stick around. He’s had form issues this year but he’s a good age for them, a great professional and a member of our leadership group.

Potentially, but it's be a pick in the 40s to 70s going off similar examples.

If any club is going to match an RFA contract offer, it will be the Suns. They've got a "what have we got to lose?" whiff about them at the moment.

What they've got to lose is pick 3. If he nominates the Hawks, Collingwood or Richmond they're not getting anything better than pick 3.

I agree actually. They might lose pick 3 but they could get a first round this year, a first rounder next year and a (maybe premiership) player who will be best 22 for them from day 1

The player could well be key, given GC would want to rebound relatively quickly.

...unfortunately we've already seen how players never want to go to a bottom club, so I doubt they'll have much luck unless they're in someone's ear already ala Tom Boyd.

Let's not get too worked up about the draft order just yet and players we may or may not have access to. Things can change very quickly. We lose to the Blues this week and all of a sudden the narrative will change on here to pick 1 is ours who do we select out of Lukosius and Walsh. For now I'm going to head into every Lions game hoping we win starting with this weekend against Carlton. Come the end of the year I'll assess which pick we have and who is likely to be around at that range. At worst(purely from a draft standpoint) it is probably looking like we'll have pick 5, at best pick 1 is still a possibility(Really hopeful we can avoid the spoon though).
I've pretty much locked in the Blues and the Suns having one more win between them for the rest of the season, being when they play each other.

Pick 3 is overrated ;) . Just like scrimshaw and Brodie rumours, the new draftee might leave too.

I like the first round this year, first round next year plus a player. They get best 22 who will stick around and add to the maturity.

They have about 4 second rounders IIRC. So if they have somebody worth a second rounder they can trade for him easy enough and the two first rounders they get won't be worth pick 3. Whichever of the 3 teams Lynch is rumoured to go to will likely be top 4 next year and the pick this year will be at best 10. So at best it'll be 10, 15 and a player worth a second rounder for pick 3. Is that really worth the hassle remembering it could be Collingwood that they're dealing with?

Not quite that many, based on the current ladder they have 2 firsts (3 & 16) and 2 seconds (25 & 29), then add a likely pick 4 for lynch and maybe another end of 2nd round for May. Still, they have lots of picks to work almost any sort of deal they want, especially when you consider their first next year will also likely be a very early pick.

Absolutely, the hysteria has been fun reading though. Difficult to not get caught up in though. I can't see us trading up to get Walsh eventhough I am certain Noble and Ambrogio would be big fans though. In no order I can see these being the top 5/6 rated players - Walsh, Lukosius, Max King, Ben King, Rankine and Blakey. 4 KPP's and if I were the Suns and had the two picks I would grab the twins, especially if Lynch and May leave. They still have 3/4 early picks to grab mids. It's a different way of thinking but it's one way to negotiate homesickness. Blakey to the Swans we know. If Rankine is at our pick just draft the kid and back ourselves in. 3 indigenous fellas on our list and also Mitch Robbo and a plethora of young guys to fit in with. Brisbane would be similar to Adelaide in that we're both not majorly large and Skinner and he can jam as well. Still would prefer Walsh but nothing to get worked up about.............yet.

I wonder if the Suns might rate Blakey ahead of the King twins. If they wanted a more mobile forward they could use pick 2 on Blakey which the Swans probably wouldn't match.

Absolutely. I think if both May and Lynch leave, they will go the King twins. Should be enough to keep them together, and could be seen (long term) as a turning point of players leaving

If the Suns end up with 3 first rounders and 2 second rounders I can't see them taking all those selections to the draft. IMO they would want at least 1 mature aged player, who would go there is the stumbling block though.

I wonder who Stewie Dew was close to and rates highly at the Swans that he could persuade into coming up ah la Fagan/Hodge. McVeigh? Grundy? Jack? or a younger player or 2- Rose, Newman, Aliir, Lloyd or a combination of young and old.

Having a look at the fixture for the rest of the year, I think Carlton are a good chance of finish above us. They've got the easiest run home by a fair margin.

As I see it, Carlton are at least a rough chance in 7 of their last 8 games (Giants is the only game I'm ruling out for them, but even then that is in Melbourne so who knows).

Meanwhile I think we're a rough chance in only 4 of our last 8 games (don't really give us much hope against Geelong, North Melbourne, Collingwood or West Coast).

The Suns are the biggest concern though. They have us and Carlton which are their only real chances for wins. Outside of that it's pretty dire.

On that basis, I think there's a fair chance the bottom 3 could end up looking like:

16. Carlton
17. Brisbane
18. Gold Coast

And in that scenario I'd probably expect Gold Coast to take Lukosius and Walsh at 1 & 2 as things currently stand.

Carlton beat them last year.

I did the ladder predictor and had us finishing 16th a game below the Saints. I don't think the Suns will win another game. I tipped Carlton to beat the Suns and no other games and we beat the Suns and Carlton. We could jump the Saints if we win another upset.

Trade up.
Commentary has Walsh dropping to 4,behind Rankine,Lukosius,King.....hope that's the case.Long way to go yet, and it will be affected by the next month's games.King may end up one, depending on who has first pick.I think there are about 15 Croweaters ahead of Berry,by the way.Watching the game against W.A. I thought he was struggling.....happy to be wrong ,but the interstaters, being stronger than the Vics, makes the situation unpredictable, as there may be more trading of picks,by S.A especially.

Good to see, as long as he gets past our 2nd round selection (Thomas Berry:)).

Fantastic that our academy has developed a big bodied midfielder.
I think you are promoting Berry by about two rounds, but hope you are right.
